Scriabin was such an amazing composer, way ahead of his time. Too bad he didn't write much orchestral music, but the little orchestral music he did write is absolutely magnificent and completely underrated.
That Scriabin made some of the greatest late romantic music like this concerto as well as some of the greatest 'modernistic' pieces like Prometheus: The Poem of Fire, makes him a God among Gods.
I think I just discovered my favourite piano concerto. I've loved Scriabin for a long time, but being an organist, hadn't ever really studied Scriabin (sadly, he didn't write for the pipe organ....it would have been WILD!) At any rate, this is just absolutely gorgeous, this concerto. Thanks so sharing this. I'd also love to know where you find all these amazing photos as well!
Exquisite! I am playing Scriabin's Etudes and Preludes these days, and was unaware of this magical work. Thanks for sharing this recording. Scrabin's music carries all the joys and pathos of life, and it is sad that his music is not played as regularly as other masters. Love the orchestration as well.
This is one of my favorite piano concertos. it is ashame that it is not as popular and that the good ones like Scriabin, Schubert and Motzart die young. This is a cool piece!
Whatever you ask for in prayer believe that you recieved it and you will have it(mark111:24)Let God arise and his enemies be scattered(psalm68:1)
Thank you soooo much for posting this! Definitely moved to my top 5 favorite Piano Concertos! I don't really know how to describe the feeling this piece gives me but it's my favorite feeling in the world. It's magical, mysterious, melancholic and joyful at the same time!
<3 Thank you so much for taking me to his magical & fantastic world*^o^* absolutely beautiful and your videos are stunningly marvelous!!! I appreciate it so much!!! <3
@AphroditeEros33 My pleasure to share! It is my favorite concerto and I listened it a lot during I was traveling in your beautiful country! This concerto for me added something to the beauty of Japan and the beauty of Japan gave me some new ideas about the music. Perhaps that's the wondrous interaction between the life and music!
@johnclones This movement is indeed very beautiful, but I do not particularly like the third movement, and the first movement also isn't Scriabin at his best. Perhaps that's the reason why this concerto is so unpopular...
@titusbeertsen I don't agree with you; the third movement is the best movement and the first and second are tremendously beautiful! Scriabin isn't very popular, not just this concerto. But audiences are not the guide to judge what is good and what isn't!
@Starwalker6978 Hmm I wouldn't call Scriabin unpopular, here in Holland there are enough performances (in the concertgebouw in Amsterdam for instance) of Scriabins music. On 12-3-2011 there's a performance of the Poem of Ecstacy (looking much forward to it), and a lot of pianists have Scriabin etudes or sonatas in their current repertoire. The problem I have with the third movement is the arpeggios's, who seem to be completely out of place.
@Starwalker6978 The first movement isn't bad, it's just not up to par with other pieces Scriabin wrote. Scriabin is easily my favorite composer, so hence the criticism. I agree with you that audiences are not to judge what's good and what's not, here in Holland the government (the one with Geert Wilders) are making big cuts to classical music and music in general, because they consider most of it to be snobbish and elite... Even the concertgebouw could close down because of this... :(
@titusbeertsen Remember that Scriabin was very young when writing this concerto and it was his first serious attempt to master orchestration; and in this (orchestration) he succeeded far better than Chopin!
What are you trying to create in Holland than? A working-class society like Mao Zedong back in the 60's? Even the Chinese came to realize it was a great mistake and are now trying to catch in the lost! Intelligence of a society through history is measured in the advancement in the arts!
@Starwalker6978 I agree that his orchestrations are better than Chopins', finally something we can agree upon ;) Churchill, when he was asked to make big cuts in the cultural section because of all the money spend on the war, replied: "But where are we fighting for then?" There should be more wise men like him in power right now... How's your country doing Starwalker?
@titusbeertsen I am a cosmopolitan, and therefore I have no country; but I'm afraid that we are from the same race and therefore share the same agonies! Politics is the last thing on my mind! I have been a lot in Asia; in China where I lived and was teaching piano and in Japan. I can tell you at least that they value the arts and particular music more than back here in The Netherlands and Europe in general!
Very beautiful and beautifully done! Curiously, this movement is foreshadowed in Schubert's Andantino varié for piano 4 hands op. 84 no.1, especially the last variation! And the middle Romanza of Medtner's 2nd concerto has a lovely passage very much reminiscent of this one!
I have listened to this movement at home, sitting in front of the window watching the full moon playing hide-and-seek among the passing clouds. It was one of those magic moments that life gives you, not very often. It was sublime. It was joyful and melancholic at the same time.

@MINGESELLE299 His works aren't underrated. They're just obscure, I think.
Everyone I've ever met who listened to his music loved it. :)

Gracias! Creo que ese sentir se lo debo a mis padres que siempre gustaron de la música clásica. Me dejaron esa herencia tan preciada.
Thank you! I think I owe the way I feel to my parents who always were lovers of classical music. I inherited something that is priceless.
