Score definitely matters if you want to max out the world population, and thus your level. You need to score a certain minimum amount of points per Act to get the highest number of people per town, and you need to be VERY careful at HOW you expand the towns. While you indeed need to fill every space, too many bridges in Fillmore and Bloodpool and corn/wheat fields in Fillmore will not make them max out.
Also, the straw huts hold 4 people, the wooden houses hold 6 and the brick ones 8.
Have to agree with you on Actraiser 1 > Actraiser 2 part, Actraiser 2 just had too many cheap shot monster and yeah ... I really enjoy the simple but engaging "Town Building" sequences of the first game,too ^_^
Funny thing about this game, unlike Whose Line Is It Anyway?, points do matter. Your score actually helps with your population level. The higher your score, the more monsters you'll have in the monster lairs. The more monsters there, the more people you can have total to populate the land once you've sealed them.
