  • the way to fix all our issues is not to tax us even higher, it is to stop

using a debt based money system.. ofcourse Saint John alone would

never do this, but Canada could..

  • What a shame! If only someone stepped in to redevelop that building! It had so many possibilities.

  • i live here, its my hometown :)

  • They shoula let that contractor make it into apartments. But the city let it sit there for years and it was a hazardous place where our young people and even kids could have been hurt. Whoever allowed this gross neglect should have been charged and convicted like others who have jurisdiction over property and commit infractions

  • i understand they were supposed to build something on the site and never did.....

ocean view in a hospital bed would have been cool

  • did you have to replace that window as a result of the hospital implosion?

  • This actually was also featured on the Discovery channel, Jay Ingram interviewed the lady that worked for the demolition company on the technique involved in such implosions.

  • Thanks for posting this,I remeber watching this from my house as a kid.Too bad it was a beautiful building.I used to have pictures of the awesome spiderman painted on it.

  • I got borned there, man.

    Good times.

  • Man, I almost forgot about this. I was only like, 5, but it was pretty damn cool to see.

  • looks a lot like the demolition of the twin towers!!!!

  • looks a lot like the demolition of the twin towers!!!! those planes definetly didnt take them down.

  • Thanks so much for posting this! I was just a kid when I watched the old general go down.

  • 14 years later, this is nothing significant on the location where the old hospital once stood, except some `box` building. Still a good piece of real estate.

  • i love controlled demolition

  • it went boom

  • This hospital had some badass grafitti on it before they blew it down.

  • i wasntn born yet

  • I was born in this hospital on Nov 16 1980and I actually have a piece of it from the blast.

I was not there at the time of the blast but family members were. I had moved from saint john when I was young.

its the first time that ive seen it that i can remember..

  • i am always titilated by building implosions

  • I can't remember anything about this hospital except seeing it being demolished live.

Also that Dome is now like a memorial for the hospital or something like that

  • dang ol general hospital go boom man

  • this was the year i was born! :)

  • i was borne in 1998 so i missed it but at least i get to see it on youtube

  • i was born january 1982 , i dont know what year this was, but my mom has pictures of this, just not video, its neat to see it in video, Love New Brunswick though, old home sweet home.

  • i was 3 days old when they blew this up

  • This should have become a university

  • i saw it but i was just a baby

  • An inside job?

  • Nice....

  • I think it's so cool that the dome from that hospital is still a little landmark in our city. :)

....couldn't they have picked a better location for it, though? I mean, it's right by one of the shittiest intersections in the city. Maybe they were going for a 'Beauty and the beast' thing with it. XD

  • i was there when i was a little kid!! it was so amazing to watch

  • I was there watching it when I was like 5 or something like that. I still remember it.

  • I would've been four. Its one of those earlier memories that stick really good.

  • haha i was 4 to:)

  • Awsome Vid!

I think I was about 7 or 8 yrs old and was there to see it, I think it scared me to the point I cried lol does anyone remember what year it was demolished?

  • @staffiebull00 December 10,1995;it says the date in the info.:)

  • Great footage...thanks for posting!

  • I remembered when this came down, I skipped school and watched it from a rooftop. It's unfortunate that it did come down, I've only now seen pictures of the interior and what it was like.

  • its a sin such a beautiful landmark had to come down

  • Putting A HRD building on the same spot of place where I was born. Kinda makes me sick!!

That old Hospital shoulda got more respect

  • The new building looks like a shoe box, I'll grant you that..but there is a lot of good things happening there. Post Secondary education for example issues millions in grants every year to assist people going back to school.

  • I wonder if the brick I took from the rubble is worth anything, lol

  • You should stick it up on e-bay and see what happens. Just give it a better background story. "This brick went through 3 car windows and landed in an upright position...or better yet, chizzle the Virgin Mary or jesus on it and claim you found it that way."

  • i was there when the people were cleanign it up

  • When this building was in use Saint John & area had

what we would now consider adequate health care. Money

Grubbers got their collective heads together & you see

    what happened next.

New hospital's siding torn off in a wind storm,

sucking out insulation & you could see the inside from

the outside! This event represents the "Death" of health care in

the Saint John area, perhaps all NB.

To see people cheering this mutilation is sickening!Beautiful, someone said? Who got rich on this

  • I know you been everywhere Hank (sorry...cound't resist the pun) but if only things were that simple. The only way to fix all the problems (healthcare, education, manicipality infastructure) is to tax us at 100%. And I for one think we are taxed too much as it is.

Now if only they would do the same thing to St. Joseph's.....just kidding...just kidding.

  • The 'death of healthcare', and yet people are flown in from all over the Maritimes to seek medical treatment at our hospital.

The building was unsafe anyway. It was going to come down sooner or later on its own, as it was. Why do you think it was condemned?

  • @ 7:50 the guy would never think that the welfare bulging would be there!

  • I remember watching this when I was 7 years old. It was certainly something to see.

  • Wow, I remember this. I was only a little kid at the time, but I remember this quite well. It was amazing to watch.

  • I was born in that old girl, great coverage glad you posted it.

  • too bad sherly macalary is a fucking retard, all we got was a shitty goverment building that looks unfinished. saint john needs to get its ass in gear

  • i was born after that and i always wanted to see this thx for posting

  • Wow this is sweet I didn't see the old hospital go down.

    Thx for sharing. :)
