actually.. I hate to break it to you but winter tires dont help all that much.. the new car will have a longer stopping distance in that snow because of ABS.. However he will retain the directional controll. The older car does not have ABS and so may slide sideways in a skid but may stop shorter..but not always. The Blue one has ALL WHEEL DRIVE and that is why it is so much better handling in snow..... you can see the rear tires spining in the video!!
I love how he used a rental for it. Priceless. Ottawa winter driving really isn't that bad. It's usually just avoiding other drivers who don't know what they're doing lol
@egorlike just as more traction, ist not better and snow .. brake and steer the same... maybe a small increase in handling but that only if your a bad driver... braking stay the same and normally the overconfidence of people driving sub make them end up in a dihtc
Lol. That makes me think of this past November, when my dad took me out for a little ice driving practice at the (deserted) city hall parking lot. He made me hit the ice at around 60, lock my wheels and jerk the steering far over to the side... and he made me do it 3 times before i begged for mercy. At which point he said: "okay, my turn!"
Hahaha funny video. Enjoyed it a lot although this comparison was not very fair!
Subaru makes amazing AWD vehicles. That Toyota Corolla is a cheap poor man's vehicle with front wheel drive. If you put the same set of all-season tires on both cars, the Subaru would still out-perform that Corolla EASILY!
love ya rick, your still funny, but truth is, you can put ice studs on a car it wont matter, its skill and its drivers habits that are bad, my god preach this tire crap someplace else. ill will never figure out why training isnt mandatory, drivers need training young and old.
Ok... yes, its not a true test/representation of the difference between all-season tires and snow tires. The cornering and control with AWD is improved, but the straight-line braking test comparing the all-seasons to the snow tires is relatively accurate. The AWD in the Subaru doesn't impact the braking force delivered.
Good job Rick... and good job to the Motorsports Club of Ottawa for hosting this!
if you need winter tires to drive in the winter, you aint Canadian.

I laughed at Rick's bumper ride at he end of the clip .........
his body positioning and feet/leg positions indicate an experienced bumper rider .......
a common winter pass time in St. John's, NL where Rick grew up !!!!!

that's not really a fair comparison. the blue car has awd and the corolla is front wheel drive.
