Yes, the Tito Schipa is very good, but I much rather prefer this one. The Schipa one is from around 1929 I think and Is definatly worth watching if you like this Aria.
My impression is that Lanza is undergoing a rehabilitation of sorts - after being denigrated as a lightweight for a long time, people are waking up to just how good he was. I prefer his voice to the 'greats' of today. That said, I find myself wishing he had exercised just a little bit more restraint; perhaps thought about the music a bit more. His rendition of this aria is good, very good - just not inspired. I still added it to my favorites though.
Mario Lanza doesn't get the credit he deserves. However, he was not picked to play the great Caruso for nothing.
