Dual turntables have been showing up in Los Angeles thrift stores and yard sales for years. I have purchased (6) various models, including (2) 1019s with headshell cartridge and and paying anywhere from $5 to $20 tops. The only issue with Dual turntables is most have an audible hum resulting from inherent wiring caused by grounding problems, the hum can clearly be heard before stylus touches the record or, if more serious, during record play.
@KojiRecords The grounding hum can almost always be cured by cleaning the contacts and pins where the headshell makes contact with the arm - oxidation builds up and causes a hum. You must also clean the internal contacts in the mute switch, which mutes the audio during arm movement. Finally, you must also clean and tighten any screws where wires are grounded. Once you do this, you will have cured the problem!
I have a Dual 1019, it came to me through a marriage and divorce. It used to be her dad's, he gave it to her and I wound up with it. I tried to give it back and asked her to meet me with some of my stuff and was told to f*** off. But anyways it came with a Grundig stereo that compares to ANYTHING made today!
Dual 1019's sound awesome. Very-vibey. Many people even prefer them to the 12XX series. Big cult following. I have a '69 1019 in excellent shape and I love it.
I wish that someone would put up a video of a 1019 actually playing music (through the speakers). I realize that a lot of people put up videos for potential customers who want to see a video of the changer function working properly, but come on, dude! Throw us a bone! Hook it up to an amplifier and speakers.
I can't wait until my 1019 is out of the shop. I'm having it overhauled. Once it's back, I'll definitely have to put up some videos.
I just bought a Dual 1019 at an estate sale for $15(!!). It also has the original Dual base...not United Audio or other base like you see on many of the 1019's. Also has the multi-play spindle. Pretty sweet...I'm happy.
my dad gived me a dual 1019 from one if his freinds at work but there is missing a neddel and a part of its wire to give power has been cutted of so it is going to be fixed.
this time it was a (b&o master 900) and its working like a charm! it got a new plug yesterday the other one was taken of but my dad fixed it and yesterday was the firts time time the b&o master worked again and it worked perfect! and the fm tuner works fine.
one just fell into my hands, completely free of charge! getting it repaired right now, gonna need a cartridge and maybe some lubrication, but otherwise it should be fine. gotta love german over-engineering!!
Hey there - great idea. I don't know why I've never thought of that! Transparent thick acrylic is actually supposed to be great, sound-wise, for a plinth - so if one wanted to spend the dough, it would be cool. And probably sound good.

Just picked up a Dual 1019 on Ebay. Its in rough shape but I know an expert in Tucson who fixes stuff well, for a reasonable price.
Look it up if you want it's called "Stereo Hospital" and its on google.

The best part about the 1019, and other Duals is all of the gears and doohickeys that make it work. I'd like to get a transparent plinth for mine.
