If you watched a more detailed version, the mother and father were working nearby and Lulu walked out on her own to look for her big brother. Her parents didn't realize that she had left the building. Did you not see the mother rush out when the Good Samaritan called for help? The blame is all on the passerbys not the parents. I saw a heartwrenching video of the mother sobbing her heart out so do not blame the parents.

According to the web a GROUP is two or more people and by stander effect has people not doing anything in case of an emergency. This video had 2 individuals on a scooter or a bicycle looking at the toddler without doing a thing. But I will agree that traditionally few people who stand arounf do nothing

The Chinese gov't allows and / or encourages legal rulings that have allowed accident victims to sue their good samaritan rescuers. The Good Samaritan can lose their entire life savings because they just tried to help someone. This is a partial explanation of why these people did not help the child. There are other reasons, but this is the one most often cited. Surprised you have not heard of this.

If you watched a more detailed version, the mother and father were working nearby and Lulu walked out on her own to look for her big brother. Her parents didn't realize that she had left the building. Did you not see the mother rush out when the Good Samaritan called for help? The blame is all on the passerbys not the parents. I saw a heartwrenching video of the mother sobbing her heart out so do not blame the parents.

@The parents are so heartbroken because they probably had to pay to keep their daughter b/c of one-child policy b/c they loved her so much and now look at what's happened. The daughter that they wanted to keep is dead. Life's unfair. It is so unfair for the Good Samaritan since people are saying that she did the good deed only for money and attention and she had to move away to prove that she didn't do it for money as a result of the hate mails and donations she got

@everinfinite When I posted that comment three weeks ago the gov't of China had not yet made any attempt to come to terms with the child's death. Then there were other events almost identical in nature in the meantime! I saw a woman drop from a bridge onto a highway and everyone just f*cking drove around her!
However, Guangdong province has now introduced draft legislation protecting good Samaritans from being sued. This is encouraging - but other provinces also need this legislation.

Another favourite is "it could happen anywhere". Well certainly a hit-and-run can happen anywhere. It's the second part - the horrifying indifference of the passers-by - *that's* the part that cannot "happen anywhere". Offhand I can't think of 5 other countries in the world where that part could happen - other than China.

According to the web a GROUP is two or more people and by stander effect has people not doing anything in case of an emergency. This video had 2 individuals on a scooter or a bicycle looking at the toddler without doing a thing. But I will agree that traditionally few people who stand arounf do nothing

The Chinese gov't allows and / or encourages legal rulings that have allowed accident victims to sue their good samaritan rescuers. The Good Samaritan can lose their entire life savings because they just tried to help someone. This is a partial explanation of why these people did not help the child. There are other reasons, but this is the one most often cited. Surprised you have not heard of this.
