Wowza! This happened to me last night but the hot chocolate was only in the flask for 2 days. The flask exploded in my hand when I was trying to take the nozzle off to empty the contents, the nozzle shot up and dented ceiling. The hot chocolate exploded everywhere! Shouldn't there be a warning about this? I could have been extremely injured.
OMG that happened to me this morning!! I had oatmeal in one of those smaller wide mouth thermos things and I thought it was empty. WRONG!!! I can't find the cap! I'm thinking its on top of one of my cabinets, but I have nasty oatmeal everywhere and a broken glass that was sitting next to it :(
The explosion was so loud that my wife (who was 2 stories beneath my in the basement) and my mother-in-law who was upstairs watching T.V with her door closed, both came running to see what had happened. Instantly, I started to try to figure out what would cause this to happen. The fact that the thermos was uncovered negated a pressure build up, and the fact that the coffee was in the thermos for a
Now I am trying very hard to think of a combination of words powerful enough to instill in a reader just how powerful this explosion was. Just as I touch the cap to the thermos, there was a deafening blast combined with flying glass and scolding hot coffee that hit me in the face and arms.lmost 5 minutes prior negated the rapid temp change theory.... So Goggle and Youtube it is... Anyone have any ideas WTF just happened, and WHY?
Now mind you, the coffee has been in the thermos for a good 3 minutes, so an abrupt temp change is not the culprit. I grab a few mugs before rinsing the cap to the thermos and think life is going to be great for the evening... lol THEN IT HAPPENS
So I decided to check Youtube to see if this happened to anyone else...lol SO, I'm in my kitchen about 20 minutes ago making some coffee for the wife and I. I remove the insulated thermal core (looks like metal but I think it is some sort of glass liner) and clean it before putting it back in and pouring in my coffee. I then added some sugar and french vanilla flavoring and went to grab the milk from the fridge. I get the milk, pour it in, re-cap the milk, put in in the fridge and all seems ok
Two weeks of fuel (hot chocolate) fermenting, lid rocketed into the ceiling while I was sleeping. ANd Yuck, it smelled like something had died in the kitchen.

Yep. My dad's thermos did the same last night.
