In elementary school (early 1950s), we sang this and the other military branches' songs frequently in music class. We also said the Pledge of Allegiance every day. Our generation grew up proud and grateful to be living in the United States of America, the greatest country on Earth.
The older version's lyrics are wierder and funnier. One of the older lyrics were: Over dale, over hill, where the hell did the 'tillery go. Guess we'll wont go home tonight
Was it high, was it low, where the hell did that one go? As those Caissons go rolling along Was it left, was it right, Now we won't get home tonight And those Caissons go rolling along. Refrain: For it's hi! hi! hee! In the field artillery, Shout out your numbers loud and strong, Till our final ride, It will always be our pride To keep those caissons a rolling along. (Keep them rolling - keep them rolling)* Keep those caissons a rolling along.
the training it's self is rough......like ripping off your lip rough..but after the first couple weeks its fun....as long as you're in shape when you do it like i was completlyout of it so it was hard the fist few months but it got easier as it went on
@soraofthemist Thanks for the reply, that's outstanding that you went through the training. The only thing I don't yet get is how heavy the logs and rubber boats are. I've seen too many videos of recruits carrying those things. They must weigh 500-600 lbs.
5 people crashed their Caissons.
