And the Bush administration had a heavy hand in making that happen. I am so glad i raised my 4 kids in Vermont (USA), very rural 'Northeast Kingdom area'..We moved to Connecticut & still my kids take their kids back there to vacation..it was definately a 'special way of life'..Sunday, New Haven,CT had 5 shootings in 9 hours..I live in rural CT, city life 'aint' for me..good vid

Hi, you're really cute! But aside from that, a lot of gang activity and violence in the U.S. has to do with what people have been exposed to all their lives. It's not necessarily their fault, it's how they've been raised. Now, this isn't always the case I'm sure but it most often seems to be. It's not really a matter of "getting a life" because the environments that these people live in are all they know and all they've ever known. The violence IS there life and the gangs are their families.

...Also I grew up on the Southside of Chicago, a city which routinly is the murder capital of the US, and now live in Naperville, ranked for the 5th year in a row as the #1 place to raise children. But in Naperville a husband just murdered his wife of 3 children 2 weeks ago. Location and wealth have nothing to do with violence. Naperville is extremely affluent, and bad things still happen here. Violence can be anywhere and come from anyone. (Sadly to say)

I do NOT think you have a snobby attitude. It is not wrong to want to be around positive influences. I have a very similar attitude, and wouldn't want to be around such negativity, or negative environments. I think your mom may just be getting upset because of the family factor, even if she believes the same thing. Some people get very touchy when others bad mouth even the worse family memebrs, for no reason at all...

I understand completly how you feel Nickas. I really believe the main explanation for what you are seeing in this country is this: A generation of youth has been "dumbed down" or taught that violence is "cool" or that "ghetto" is cool. It's the MTV "In your face" attitude. Television plays a huge roll in this. Violence is glorified, and igonorance is made a virture. I could cite a hundred examples. On TV, every problem is solved with a gun or voilence.

Rural sprawl seems to bring some kind of culture that needs these gangs to occupy their bored lives. My high school had metal detectors at the doors. I don't get it and I look down upon it. My cousin is 18 with now TWO babies, I don't get it. These ares where people live lack basic intelligence and don't move forward to better themselves. There are certain differences in cultures that deserve "snobbish" remarks because they SHOULD be looked down upon.. rather than just accepted.

I think education, in regards 2 the causes behind these issues, is what we need to acquire in order 2 find a solution. Given these ppls lives/family/background/circum­stances, what choices would any of u have made? U can't really say because u don't understand. And there is nothing wrong with that. Just say, "I don't get it", as u did Nick. To add: I think it is MUCH easier for some ppl 2 move forward and better themselves, than it is 4 others. It just isn't that simple.

I completely agree with you Gina...I don't agree with the violence, but some people can't help where they live or what lot they drew in life, and to think your better then someone or look down upon someone because of where they live or who they are is wrong. It's the same logic with a str8 person looking down upon a gay person for being gay. We are all human, some better off then others, but mindless violence and shit like that is intolerable.

I don't blame you for not wanting to be around that. If you're not associating with them because of money that would be sort of stuck up, but if it's because you don't like the way they are behaving that is different. Continue to treat them with respect, but it's okay to distance yourself if that is what your gut is telling you. If this is your cousin it may be not be so cut and dry though.

My schools in Switzerland was nothing like US schools. For example, police in schools. I agree with you on having the right people around. Also I have been accused of the "European cockiness" since being back in the US, but most people say that my time in Suisse has overlapped my time in Australia. But I think that people don't like others who have not lived in the recent times at a certain place, comment on that area. Its amazing really how different places are from the US.

anyway, I live in Baltimore, and there's a LOT of violence here, gangs, shooting, someone's in the news dead from gunshots and stuff, I'm just basically sick of it, I don't even want to watch the news anymore, it's the same thing

At my school no one really comes up to ME with bullshit, but I hear people stabbing other people, threats, people fighting all the time (though the devil in me is entertained by the fights), I don't see the point...

And another thing to add, I think you're totally right, these people need to get a life and just stop the unnecessary violence, I remember when I was little, about 6 or 7, this older kid who was like 11 punched me in the face for no reason while I was outside minding my own business, my brother eventually kicked his ass, but I don't get why the other kid would hit me anyway
