  • this is how my horse greets me every day cuz i always smell like veggies, i work at a farmers market

  • yes, this is called flehmen and horses do it to trap a smell in their noses to that can try to identify it. stallions do it alot to tell if a mare is in heat or not but any horse can do it to better understand whatever they are smelling. cute horse by the way!!!

  • @wbleyla yes, very cute!

  • I think it's when they smell a strange smell, my horse did it when he smelt salt water.

  • hey everybody......i will put this as nicly as i can, but that horse is just smalling the air, all horses do that......sorry

  • Why do they do that

  • It's called the "flehmen face" google it :)

  • It's wierd that she's doing the flehmen, stallions usually does that to smell a female in heat o_0

  • my horse is a mare and she does it when she smells something funny like a new horse or marmite lol

  • Heh! Smile for the camera horsie!

  • My horse does that all the time, LOL its funny. Then she pees in her hay xP

  • hows that funny...

  • you guys r totally wrong lol! a stallion does that when he smells a mare in heat. all horses do it when they smell or taste something they like.

  • Horses have an extra ssense gland for smell under their top lip. when they curl the lip up they're trying to smell more. My pony does this a lot, particularly around food! Very Cute

  • its a really happy horse lol.

at the riding school that i ride at theres this horse that has done that 2 times when we go to pu the bridle on :).

    its so cute and funny.

    xx

  • No no,

The Horses are smiling about what they have to eat.....

  • wow ok i guess...........funny lol

  • if it's a female over the age of 3 its called a mare.

  • aww cute horse!!!!

  • I heard it is when a horse smells something nice it pushes its upper lip on their nose to keep the scent there for longer.. Cute horse!

  • false I read about al least 15 books of horses when they smell something bad they curl their lips they look funny don't they lol.

  • Horse goes: Njeeeeeeh

  • il drague le flemenh

  • it looks like the horse is just getting nervous about you approaching when it's eating

  • It is called Flhemans(sp)response. Stallions do it to get a better scent of the mare or if they are just smelling something unfamiliar and trying to see what it is.

My horse does it when he is fed unfamilier food :)

  • im not quite shure why horses do this but mine does it every time i feed him a treat :S

i think they use it as a way of smelling ???

owell gudd vid ill rate good effort !!!

  • Wonder if horses do that for the same reasons cats do it.. to capture fine odor nuances. .

  • xDDDDD SO CUTE !!

  • it was a cute vid but that is not a "trick" all horses do it and it is fun to watch but no it is not a "trick". oh, and i love your horse he/she is cute!

  • he he funny but the horse is actually neiging and you put the sound of still funny though!

  • heeeyy loook at myyy pertty teef!! so cute :)

  • wow she didi it 4 so long hahaha cute bay!!

  • FLEMEN!! its when they taste or smell something new!

  • She's a nice horse. What she is doing is perfectly normal, it's called the flehmen response. She has smelt something that she has found interesting and by curling her lip up she is closing her nostrils to isolate the smell and examine it in more detail.

  • Cute horse! ;)

  • Whats the possibility of it having colic its not showing any other signs of it! My mini did that and he was perfectly fine!

  • ok I looked on the internet and did see that could be a "subtle" sign of colic, which surprised me.

  • when i fed a crazy donkey it did that! XD :]

  • When I tickle my horse's nose she does that. Its not because their in pain...

  • if u dont like it than dont say anything, and my horses do that lip thing when their is a funny smell, and trust ive seen many horses colic, and they dont stick their lip out, horses in pain also dont do that, my horses didnt when she needed stitches..

  • Its just wen ther taste buds are intreeged :L

  • those are signs of colicing. repeat flehman is what rasing the upper lips called. its a sign of pain. if you didn't know that i don't think you should have a horse.

  • hey cute horse but strange it's wind sucking nothing very very stange and unusual has it seen a vet? trust me eva since i woz 10! i wored at the closest stabled's near me i know alot of thing's.

  • seriously

  • this is just stupid

  • what is funny here???

  • crazy horsi is cute XD

  • my horse does this when they have an unusual taste, for example when eating strong mints, licking the gate, having wormers, eating ice cubes etc i didnt know it had a name though - lol

  • Hehe taste or smell.. or just to make us smile.. thats what i put my money at :P

  • it's called flemming

  • whos the crack head saying this is straw. err clearly not. and wth are you saying horses dont lie down hahhahaaa@you.

    you know nothing

  • some of you people are know-it-alls!!!!!! let us have fun without being school jeez!!!!

  • omg that was one of the cuttest horses ever!

  • Horses don't "smile" when they are happy or want a treat. This flexure of the nose is called the "flehmen". This indicates that the horse's vomeronasal organ has been stimulated. While it is more commonly seen in stallions smelling pheromones, it is not unique to stallions. Mares and geldings can also demonstrate this behavoir when they smell something that is especially interesting - good (treats, etc.) or bad (some medicine, etc.).

  • first of all, the horse is a mare, we have covered that

    - that is not straw just hay and that isn't the point

    - horses DO lie down, if you think they don't you know NOTHING about horses

    - yes, a stallion or gelding may do that when in heat but this is a mare

    - horses "smile" when they are happy or want a treat

  • aww that was so adorable! :D

  • dice que le chupes el pitote.

  • then why did i see a horse at the Takala stables ranch lying down sleeping?!!!!

  • 1. horsed DO lie down

    2. male horses "smile" if they smell a female horse in heat

3.hay ain't bad for horses- all of my neighbour's horses eat hay and they stil haven't died :P

    btw rlly nice vid :)

  • me too! me too:D i cant do that:D

  • this was in lithuania wasn't it?

i was totally born there! 0.0

  • if thats a stallion or gelding he might smell a mare in heat. mares do that too but for what i have no clue

  • its a female

  • omg i ride a imean i use to ride HORSE AND HIS NAME WAS CHIKISO AND IF I DID THAT TO HIS CHIN HE WOULD WINNIE

  • thats straw he's eating!! not hay!!! thATS very bad for horses!! no wonder he's showing his teeth!!

  • are my teeth looking white

i have got a itchy nose

    smile for the camera

    lol xxx

  • lmao!!!

    :L:L:L

  • That just means the hay is nasty. It stinks. Seriuosly thats what they do. That looked like straw or really low quality hay. my horse will do that anytime you give them something they don't like or that is not eatable. Stinky

  • It probably was straw and it was probably there for him to lie down in rather than eat. if you know horses as well as youre trying to make out then you must know that they often attempt to eat straw.

  • horses dont lie down dip stick

  • yes they do.

  • Yes they do dip stick, not for long periods of time usually, but they do lie down. Horses in my barn do it -all the time-. Learn a little something before you try and act smart.

  • thats cute

  • I think that's called flehming or something. XD Stallions do it to find the scent of mares in heat. I guess he does it too. :3

  • not only stallions do that.. the mares also.. ;-)

my mare is doing that when she smells something interesting..(stallion xD)

  • I went to a stable recently... each of the horses were in their nice stalls tucked away with their heads peeking out.... in the hall there were bags & bags of carrots... I went to go & give 1 of the horses a carrot, and all the others started doing their own individual & creative mouth gesture to get my attention to come over to them... smacking their lips, or smiling, or playing with their tongue & making funny noises with it. Horses are soo smart & so funny! I love them!!!

  • He's smiling for the picture!!
