Can't hear this song without thinking about the movie the Five Heartbeats, when Duck was looking at the girl get into the car with another man. Great song!
THE DELFONICS HAD A HUGE EFFECT ON MJ. HE PERFORMED MANY OF THERE SONGS. LA LA MEANS I LOVE YOU, CAN YOU REMEMBER, THIS SONG AND OTHERS. MJ SAID THAT THE DELFONICS WERE HIS FAVORITE GROUP. HE EVEN OPENED FOR THEM! CHECK OUT MY INTERVIEW WITH THE DELFONICS, "SALIMA SPEAKS DELFONICS" PEACE.
Why is everyone flaming The Fugees??? They were amazing! And to sample songs like this is brilliant as it keeps the music from the past alive. Appreciate music from all genres, stop living inside a box and insulting music that you may not like.
MY JAMM MY JAMM I LOVE THESE BROTHERS!!! I WAS JUST A LITTLE GIRL BACK IN THE DAY IN CHI TOWN WHEN THEIR MUSIC WOULD PLAY ON WVON ANN WGRT, BUT I REMEMBER HEARING IT.
@Mrnick59 Hold on wait a minute. The Delphonics are undoubtedly legend status they are absolutely great, but don't you dare hate on the fugees. They are the greatest rap grooup/ new age R&B group. Look at who came out of the Fugees. Wyclef Jean and Lauryn Hill. Wyclef never came with a wack song, even wjhen he does stuff with Shakira, and Lauryn Hill is a Queen.
The Fugees? Listen, if you know anything about music then you'd know the Fugees couldn't even stand in the same shadow of the Delfonics. The Fugees-Yeah, right! Ignorance is blissed.
@RichBoi219 you must be a youngster this song was out in the mid ot late 1960s i was 9 0r 10yrs old, then the j5 came on the seen and did it not a bad job
I like how Missy Elliott use some samples from this song in her oo ah Sock it to me song. And when the Fugees came and also sample the Ready or not verse for ther song in 1996.
Absolutely, the Delfonics. The Delfonics were out the same time as the Chi lites, Moments, Stylistics and the 5 Stairsteps. I had the opportunity to see them all in concert. Those were the best to times!!
@patriciacarrasco This was a hit for the Delfonics around '68, when the Jackson 5 were just getting started. Most of the Delfonics' hits, including this one, were written by William Hart (lead singer) and Thom Bell (song writer & musician). Later, Bell went on to write hits for the Stylistics and the Spinners with Linda Creed.

Sounds like The Fugees' sample was more in the style of the J5 version. Including the "ah huh" ad lib M.J. did in the chorus.

@crashrouge Don't blame the Fugees. It's not their fault. They were born into an era where the quality of music doesn't count very much.
