they are using these below average players that arent even at the top of their sport to an nfl person who is at the top of their sport. if they are going to test this atleast use a rugby player from a nation thatis GOOD at rugby and use the people from the top league of that country. like someone from the super 14 or guiness premiership.
@sumsafan7 Quentin Jammers? He's a hitter? He's a cornerback who depends more on finesse than anything. Also, Quentin Jammers is outweighed by 70 lbs in the video. It makes a huge difference. I agree you should get a professional rugby player, but I feel as if we should get a linebacker or a big safety to do the hitting, not a 190 lbs cornerback!

apples and oranges folks. There is a reason pads are required in American football. Football players still get hurt extremely frequently, even with the helmets/pads. Football players at all levels have died and been injured for life or paralyzed by 1 hit.

It’s a must-have book for anyone interested in sports and you can pre-order it today at Amazon.com!
what do you expect when you get a few unprofessional girls from a non rugby country to hit each other and one of the worlds best nfl players. Bring in Brian Lima or henry tuallagi and lets see who hits it harder seriously look up the second guy he is a monster
i see one problem with the NFL hit... in a game the guy getting hit isn't just standing there, think about it if a guy is moving then gets smashed the numbers are gunna be higher rite?
if you really watch the rugby player pulled up just before he hit him where the football player drove thru the target. I would like to see what the rugby player would have done to the dummy where he could just let it all out & drive thru like the football player not worrying about hurting someone. Numbers would be higher
those two tackles were also completely different. The rugby tackle was in the gut and Jammer's tackle was high and on the pads, but its not like noone gets hit in the gut in football. DUH!!! im in high school nd i dont wear padding in my abdomen area (i dont think there are any ayway other than rib guards) and i get form tackled there all the time and yes, i too get an "instant stomachache" so this show in my opinion reaaaallly botched this episode in terms of theory, especially who they chose
@ryantimmins99 If you want a safety, the late Sean Taylor jacking up Brian Moorman (bless them both), proved that even a punter can get up from a hard hit.
As for the comparisons, check out Ray Lewis, who did a bull rush right at a door later on in the series, and Joey Porter, who blindsided a crash test dummy.
For any question why American football is called football, the sport is originated from rugby and is a modified version of it. Hence the name: rugbt doorball ((Modified as in not better or worse, I mean by made different. Honestly, I don't care which sport is deemed "tougher" because there are much more important things than sports. Anyways, fight clubs are a bit more feisty than both sporrs. It just irritates me how rugby players think they're all tough.))
a punch hits you about 20 square cm but in a car crash.....it hits u verry hard on a large surface and the force is dispersed....imagine the force of a car at 35 mph concentrated in a 1000kg fist
they still gave rugby an advantage because they counted the slam with the impact. they just counted the impact of the football hit and it was still harder than the rugby hit. another thing they didnt count the offensive players speed( 14 mph colliding with another 14 mph object) all together thats gotta be over 6000 pounds of force
it would have been much higher force for football but they didnt have the reciever moving, so that would multiply the force cause you would have the opposite direction of the running.
That was so random naming Sheldon Brown, actually doesn't hit as hard as Quentin Jammer maybe if you said Al Harris...who is only 180 somthing...they removed tha futage of him demolishing the emortal AD..in his rookie year I believe. I can't find that on YOUTUBE to save my life. THat's why he trucked him last year. REAL TALK!
again you are proving to be an IDIOT...i said that you are comparing Ray Lewis,a 240lbs linebacker, with Quentin Jammer,a 190lbs cornerback...NO SHIT Lewis can hit harder then Jammer idiot hes 50lbs heavier and his job is to hit...corner's job is to cover...
@hewenthatway Speed was the great equalizer, too. While Lewis & Porter are heavier, Jammer runs faster, and their techniques are different, so it can be a apple-and-orange argument.
I definetly agree...if the reciever was moving the force would have no doubt been greater. And ya the LAX? they say the best athletes on the planet...but i'm going to assume that LA is not the home to the best rugby players in the world lol.
the guy doing the hitting for the rugby players is my brother in law. got a full ride to florida state as a swimmer lol then walked onto florida state's special teams for a year then traveled while playing rugby for florida state and the la team. he's 6'4" and 260 or so. trust me. it hurts when ur hit by a guy like that
He definitely looks solid, but for sure he's no Jerry Collins or Brian O'Driscall. I've played against former and/or recent internationals and been hit so hard I've pooed a little. Get a Premiership or Super 14 pro and I'll bet the numbers would be pretty close to a football hit.
NO offense to Jammer but Ray Lewis would be a better model. Secondly, when you have a WR going at full speed and a DB cracking his melon open, like yall said that increases the force. Basic physics* (pardon my spelling)
Haw-haw! A soccer player calling ANYONE a queer is rich! Everytime I see a men's game, I'm looking for a sniper on the roof with all of the little bitches rolling around like someone shot them! Rugby: you go down and the game doesn't stop. You go off the field and you're done- no coming back on (except for blood). Soccer- you get carried off the field on STRETCHER!? as many times as you need and skip back on after you get a kiss from mommy and some magic water... football, too.
@Propfrwrd thats cuz rugby is not a hard hitting sport, its more rough than anything else, but i do agree w/ the soccer thing with the players rolling around like they got shot after someone kicks them in a padded shin
Actually mate there are 3 British Leagues, a number of university teams and a decent following for American Football here in the UK. I'd suggest you find your nearest local team, head to a training session, put some kit on and take a few tackles. At the moment you're talking about something you have no experience of or knowledge about and to be honest, it makes you sound like a dick. If you don't like the sport, fair enough. But don't give us shit because you don't get it.
"rolpho2" lmao its typical that you would relate to war, typical yanks.Oh and btw rugby is tougher in my opinion becuase they dont wear protection like you fags do.
@thefunnyguy21 in my opinion which is proven constantly to be a fact, football is tougher because it is essential to keep from dieing, whereas rugby is a bunch of bitchy faggots dragging each other down with maybe 3 real hits in a game
Fuck you all. They are 2 different sports. I play both, fullback in Rugby and cornerback in Gridiron. They're different styles of tackling. In Rugby, you want to get him on the floor, it doesn't matter if he gains that extra yard when you're dragging him down. However, in Gridiron, when you hit the guy, you want to stop him there. Comparing them to each other is fucking ridiculous. Don't be a fucking tool, don't relate them to each other. They are nothing alike in a contact sense.
You're right... I have played football (fullback and linebacker) and play rugby, and agree that overall, the hits are a little harder in football. A couple of inequities in the 'test':
1.) The receiver was not moving; this would undoubtedly caused a greater impact force
2.) The LAX!? Come on! Although I'm sure these boys are hard, they are still amateurs. At the very least get a Premiership/Super 14/International player, and you will see some big numbers.
For a prop, you have a surprising amount of intelligence ;). But it's finally good to see someone with some sense. Thank you for restoring my faith in humanity.
That test was not fair to football. First the rugby player was moving fowards and the football dummy was still.Second the ground was included in the force of the rugby hit and not the football hit.
I think tackling a real person is an advantage to the football hit - a real person would deflect the impact. They should have compared Jammer to a professional rugby player too. Still....it's a bit of fun, so don't take it so seriously.
To the guy who thinks rugby is such a great sport:yeah it may hit like a hammer since the area of the hit is more condensed so its more likely to break your ribs, while in football, the hit is spread out and absorbed by the entire body. What Im gettin at is that the purpose of sports is to compete and have a great time, not to end up in the hospital cuz some assholes think their so tough.yeah right good luck with that!Anyway you heard the guy,he said that football hits two times as hard as rugby!
its actually more than just 4800 lbs of force because the receiver has some initial velocity moving towards the middle and towards jammer. Receivers don't catch the ball standing still in those middle post routes, they move too!
Lima's hit was to the chest, shoulder first, then an (half arsed) attempt wrap with the arms. Quite a bit different than the one in the experiment where the guy was just picked up and dumped.
I'm not even sure that Lima's tackle would be even be considered legal though. You see it all the time in Rugby League though, where you're allowed to shoulder charge.
they shoulda done this w/ europeans rugbymen. americans suck ass, they just wanna touch each other. also, WTF??? how can u get hit by 4 fucking hammers? this is nothing compared to a hammer, that would fucking kill u. i bet one hit from a hammer could kill a man.
jammers awesome, but i think they shoulda got sean taylor while he was still alive or even ed reed... with the football player they didn't even put into effect that for almost every instance in the NFL the guy getting blown up is running really fast too, which would create an even greater impact- jammer hit a non moving object...
These rugby boys are so fucking cocky. They wouldn't last shit in football. As if there are any guys playing rugby that are half the athletes that play football. Talking stuff.....ask a RB what its like getting hit repestedly by guys who weigh in excess of 250 lbs. play after play after play.
