I loved Hot Dog! I was only six when it first aired. I likely haven't heard the theme music in nearly 40 years, and yet it still instantly brought back warm nostalgic feelings for me when I just now heard it again. The show was intriguing and engaging, and just plain fun! It seems the Food Network's show Unwrapped is the logical descendant of Hot Dog, but, unlike the sedate Unwrapped, Hot Dog was whimsical. Someone out there, please upload some whole episodes, in good condition, please.
maybe the weirdest thing ive ever seen. i think the whole showing of just the opening and closing credits only and none of the program was an especially nice fuck you to anyone viewing this
I was surprised to see Frank Buxton credited as creator/producer/director. I knew him for a little while in the 80's (we were in an improv troupe in L.A.). His prior connection to Woody Allen was Allen's "What's Up, Tiger Lilly?", for which Buxton provided some of the dubbed voices. Nice guy.
Unbelievable! I play by ear, and I used to play the "Hot Dog" theme song on my little chord organ. I can still remember the tune, but the show is such a faint memory... So I thought I would TEST You Tube, not really expecting any results. Wow! If it was 1970, I was 8.
Wow, blow the dust off this! I was 4-5 when this initially aired in '70-'71 but I remember repeats of it being shown in the afternoon in the mid-late '70s when I was in grade school. I had no idea then that Woody Allen was a big movie star. Cool memory!
This aired before I was born, yet I remember it vividly. Why? Every so often, they'd play one at my school in the eighties ('Yay, they're showing a 'Hot Dog' today!') Quite famous at our school.
In fact, we all thought (I did until 10 minutes ago) they were made for schools, just like all the other films (only infinitely cooler).
Boy, I really had to go back to the farthest recesses of my memory to recall this program, but I did it!
That may be the first time that I saw Woody Allen and Jonathan Winters (I think I may have seen Joanne Worley on an old "Laugh-In" episode before this).
In retrospect, it was a good program, but it wasn't one of my favorites (though I did watch it every now and then).
Holy Jesus - I watched this show when I was 6 years old, and loved it . . . but I haven't heard so much as a mention or reference to it in almost 40 years, so for a long time I thought that I had imagined ever seeing it. Wow, but this takes me WAAAAAY back . . . thank you.
I don't think I've seen this in 37 years. Thank you for blowing my mind. Now I know why I have been getting Maudie Frickert flash backs for all these years.
Dear Auntbecky, your not missing much. I'll probably start a stormo argument with this comment, but, that was when Woody Allen was funny. Today, he just makes movies, he, thinks are good. Haven't, yet, met anyone who agrees with him. =Stefan=
I think Aunt Becky meant she didn't know who Woody Allen was AT THE TIME. Hr had only made maybe three films by then. Also, we should meet - then you would have met someone who agrees with him.
I used to think I was the only one who ever remembered this short-lived show. I watched it religiously when I was seven years old, and was sad when it was cancelled. Anyone remember "Curiosity Shop" too? (I think it was on ABC). That show had a little girl named Pamelyn Ferdin on it, who I used to have a crush on as a kid. Those shows were so good - they sure don't make them like they used to!
Hell ya! I loved Curiosity shop, and I'm always looking for clips. Do you remember the animated film about the martians that land in a restaurant? It was shown on the curiosity shop, and I've been looking for that!!
There was something about Pamela Ferdin on "The Curiosity Shop" that turned me off to her back then. Probably more me than her. It's so many years ago, she probably has forgiven me by now. :-)
Now, if you want to talk about Joanna Cameron in "Isis" or Holly from "The Land of the Lost," I'm all ears. :-D
J.P. is so > Bozo it isn't even funny. J.P. was a Mayor (of the City Dump) and had an ICU2TV that allowed him to look into the homes of his viewers. Which now that I think about it is kinda creepy. Plus he was on a first-name basis with Santa Claus.
I remember they used to air this show on "The J.P. Patches Show" on KIRO TV (CBS) in Seattle back in the 70's. J.P. Patches was like "Bozo The Clown" showing cartoons and "Hot Dog" was one of the featured shorts on the program.
I was 8 and remember the show well. The theme music came back to me as if it were yesterday.

This is the only tv show that Mr.Woody
Allen ever hosted.
The creators of this series are Mr.Lee Mendelson
(of "Peanuts"/"Charlie Brown"TV Fame)and Mr.Frank
Buxton(one of the original hosts of ABC TV's
"Discovery!").

probably the neatest educational kids show ever next to Mr. Wizard. Funny, superbly made and scored, never dull, truly informative.
