Very mesmerizing and beautiful song. like wat shea354 said, its haunting but peaceful. On one side,It makes u feel sad, lonely. it makes u feel like ur trapped in a haze of despair, dont knw where to go. On the negetive aspect makes u want to fall into self loathing. But on the positive note, it kind also makes u aware of glimpse of a promise, for a better future. It kinda gives u a feeling of encouragement to make it through one step at a time. AFTER THE RAIN COMES THE MORNING!!!!
Damn! I remember back in the days when this video only had about thousands of views. Now it's about to reach 100k. Fat Jon really desearves attention for the great work he has produced!
@bigheadkid56 Dude, i'll be sitting down somewhere in college or walking down the street and the intro of this song will suddenly play in my head. Its extremely chilling, especially the pan effect.
@Saxophonic Sweet I am not the only one. while reading you comment I thought about the beginning of this song and it gave chills too lol. Who knows maybe thats just our souls being tapped.

Heh... I was just watching Kare Kano as a friend recommended it to me (said it was an interesting psychological anime) and near the end of the third episode while soichiro was explaining to Yukino why he ignored her, he said "you were a light that shone on my darkness". This shocked me quite a bit because i realized i had heard it before somwhere. I listened to Darkness once more and confirmed that the sample at the begging is from the dubbed version of Kare Kano, I mean what was the chance?
Yeah I mean Fat Jon is unfortunately very unknown, even in the underground scene. What was the chance of me finding the original quote? And to think i wasn't going to watch it at the beginning. I guess Fat Jon saw the anime too. Anyway thanks for putting this up, not a lot of food for the soul nowadays, and this piece is indeed a masterpiece.
why am i only discovering this ample soul physician stuff NOW. fat john only get more and more awesome with every new thing i learn about him! save for that collab he did with styrofoam. that was SHIT!

All too true. If I hadn't found Samurai champloo one fateful night in my basement, or if I had changed the channel, or turned off the television, (because I didn't like anime, and still don't, but I could tell Champloo was different from the main theme) then my life would be a whole lot less bright.

@ICHIBANKILLA i am also in the same boat as u. my discovery of this music is through anime & 2 [adult swim]'s famed bumbs that pop in and out of commercial break(without that J-Dilla, Nujabes{both rest in peace}, Fat Jon, Flying Lotus, & 2 many to name would fly by my mind. With this i've been digging deep to find all the tru hip-hop jems i can find like Brother Ali, Murs, Five Deez, and etc.
So let the simple minded get lied 2 while we find the good stuff. more 4 us right ^_^
@ICHIBANKILLA & being the person that i am who treat his 1st cuzins as my own brother & sister(only 2 1st) i try 2 introduce them 2 what they have been cheated out of listening 2 like me. But Lil Wayne, Gucci, & all the others got there grip on em' & not letting go. there brainwashed but I don't force it... one again... more 4 me ^_^
When I listen to this beat its like im walking down a hallway..I dont know where it leads to but when im walking down this long hallway and I see all the people I have ever cared about in my life just pass me by life im a stranger. Like I never knew them. Its the worst feeling...
Is there a single track from Fat Jon that isn't a remedy for depression? Take an overdose of B vitamins and turn on Fat Jon and you have the equivilant of ecstasy... almost. Seriously though after flipping through 20+ tracks, I'm feeling so distracted and mellow, like I forgot who the fuck I was.
This is the best comment I think I've ever read on youtube. Ain't got anything on in particular now, but I'll be uploading my demo onto my youtube soon, probably be using one of his beats - I think it'd be worthwhile to subscribe and wait for me to get it done. Peace.
This music and others like it NEED to stay underground, it keeps it pure and untainted, away from the corporate scum that want to Mtv-ize everything nowadays. This is music made for music sake, for the love of making music and not for the money like mainstream music.
I was just listening to pandora radio 1 day and they played this cat. Now its all i want to listen to. Beats that can throw some jazz, rap and hip hop influences that sound real dope. Just what i want to hear. Great Song
there is no "on the outside looking in" with music... every1 can come together and treat this like a chill session... we're all on the "inside, observering whats in"... this is the closest to paradise were going to get... this music is where the chill effect sets in... have a pissy day, all u have to do is go to ur room, close ur door, cut the stereo on to some Fat Jon, Nujabes, Nomak, etc.. and its all good by night fall.. u'll have no regrets and realize ur purpose in the world with this music
Hectic world a spec of dust perfect pearl watch it rust correct the swirl to go up corrupt anxiety erupt in a fiery display much to their dismay fillet o' fish today wish and pray for a way out of the dungeon something keepin' us lungin' it's pungent the smell of freedom it swells like the credence once expedience of the soul drifts and unfolds no experience too bold feel this it's rolled
this ain't underground, this is just good hip hop. hahaha. you can't categorize this any other way.
also if you want to move to japan just to listen to good hip hop, you're not listening well enough to american hip hop. japan's got some whack shit too, just like america. don't get it twisted.
@Fabrizio0o well i had 2 comment 2 what u said after reading it & wanted 2 make sure drunkenstyle didn't kill all ur hopes w/ his comment... came off as alittle 2 harsh 2 me(i kno ur comment is a year old but o'well ^_^)
u see, i'm also in the same mind that u r & am also a teenager like urself. i wanna also visit Japan & try 2 listen 2 some good music. Although what he said is true i.d. think it's as bad as in the u.s. as far as mainstream goes.
Gotta love the underground hip hop for life people...
I'm glad that, if it wasn't for the radio & the media, there wouldn't be any underground music =)
It's glad to move on from the mainstream to underground. Because you can experience and cultivate new music that your ears have never heard in your entire life. This is what music NEEDS, definitely. All you hear is whack ass gangster rap on the television. It's put up on tv so everybody will love it. It's annoying. Relax to this music instead...
I think I'd genuinely put Fat Jon in my top 5 producers of all time. It pains me to know how criminally underrated he is.

And so it all began, A monster was born
Into this cold dark world, battered and torn
He often wonders what happened, why him he asks
But until he finds the answer he hides behind his masks
To cover his shame that he can no longer bare
He's sick of this world, so cruel and unfair
Drugs sex and violence, it's all he knows
But alas he finds peace, in the rhymes and flows
A speck of light in this darkness...

Steps strike the concrete
Earth cold beneath his feet
Pulsating headphones, create a cadence for his sneaks.
His mind drifts, with every bass, treble, and rift
This is bliss!
A vagabond equipped with a backwards cap, quiet eyes but no limp. No hos or cars on his list, no colt, no booze, no lit up spliff.
Only the bass, treble and every rift.

there is no "on the outside looking in" with music... every1 can come together and treat this like a chill session... we're all on the "inside, observering whats in"... this is the closest to paradise were going to get... this music is where the chill effect sets in... have a pissy day, all u have to do is go to ur room, close ur door, cut the stereo on to some Fat Jon, Nujabes, Nomak, etc.. and its all good by night fall.. u'll have no regrets and realize ur purpose in the world with this music

I have always waited for the day till I would hear this kind of MUSIC!!!!
I'm so happy on the outside now! ^__^
I knew on the inside that music like this would appear in the future.... And it did....
I'm a teenager at the moment... And this music will just take me freely to the future with no regrets.
Underground Hip Hop makes me think about Japan all the time. It's in my head, and it feels so beautiful.
My dream is to live in Japan and to start a new life there forever and ever.
Blessing!

this ain't underground, this is just good hip hop. hahaha. you can't categorize this any other way.
also if you want to move to japan just to listen to good hip hop, you're not listening well enough to american hip hop. japan's got some whack shit too, just like america. don't get it twisted.

Although what he said is true i.d. think it's as bad as in the u.s. as far as mainstream goes.
keep ya head up & we might meet in Japan^_^

Gotta love the underground hip hop for life people...
I'm glad that, if it wasn't for the radio & the media, there wouldn't be any underground music =)
It's glad to move on from the mainstream to underground. Because you can experience and cultivate new music that your ears have never heard in your entire life. This is what music NEEDS, definitely. All you hear is whack ass gangster rap on the television. It's put up on tv so everybody will love it. It's annoying. Relax to this music instead...
