  • If you go to wwwfruitguyfanscom and sync this video up with the music on that site's opening page, it goes together perfectly.

  • that is one fucking scary rabbit!

  • restore the novie

  • I can fit 16000 videos like this in a chip the size of a thumbnail...

    Thank you technology

  • @MLPFiM chip is not a memory rofl

  • @DenSvenskeRunePure By chip i meant a micro sd card. Its a way of saying a little square electronic thingy.

  • OMG! I am so crazy, I can't believe I have sat and watched this because my audio isn't working! D: I can't watch the whole thing... it's frustrating. (Well made though.) :P

  • i just watched this movie with my brand new Bose Sorrund Sound Yeah

  • @geoffolehane - ANd what is especially fascinating about this to me is that this was shot less than fifty years after the book was actually published.

  • creepy

  • Hahahaha 0:23 there's no WAY that didn't hurt. Bonk!

  • @CommentCommenter Thought the same thing lol

  • Why was video invented before the sound? Sound seems easier, no?

  • @FreeBlago1 recorded sound was invented before motion pictures (& both were invented by thomas edison), but contemporaries had difficulty in properly joining the two mediums together in synchronization. "the jazz singer" (1927) was the first movie to have spoken lines=)

  • @FreeBlago1 the video wasnt... Sound was invented first, but the problem was invent a device that play audio and video sinchronized

  • @FreeBlago1 The earliest sound recordings were recorded mechanically onto cylinder or disc. With the film being an entirely separate medium it was soon found to be impossible to synchronise it with the picture. This was eventually solved by recording the sound directly onto the film as lines of varying brightness and/or width on a "sound track". There are some interesting experimental sound films from 1926, but as KrystalK88 stated, the first real motion picture with sound dates from 1927.

  • Thanks for the nightmares, creepy bunny man.

  • This sucks. Stop acting like you like this. Shit was boring as fuck.

  • @MosDopeBoy Moron.

  • @L4Denny Shut the fuck up. It's boring.

  • @MosDopeBoy To you maybe, but it's interesting to people who are not morons. Since you however are a moron it makes sense you find it boring.

  • Thanks for uploading this :) I must say.. That's one huge creepy rabbit..

  • if they had use another floor -without the boards- would have been more credible all the shrinkage/enlargement thing. Sorry for my spanglish

  • am i the only one that finds this creepy as fuck

  • amazing...

  • it's nice the silent ones,,,without the fascist marketing,,,and the flashes of light inducing short term memory loss...or the modern porn star,,sorry actress. or any freeze frame perversion. and it seem the people don't have a the "relationship with there phone psychosis, "

  • @inthecresents Quit complaining. Life sucks.. Deal with it.

  • omg!!!! she's tiny

  • wow, so im watching this and im like, wheres the volume? even though i read that its a silent film.... this is very naeat

  • Probably this film has been seen more in Youtube in a year than it exisited for it's 108 years.

  • the 1911 button fits with this pretty good

  • @onlyelisha I concur!

  • @onlyelisha thats why i came here XD

  • 4:15 the Cheshire Cat is NOT amused!

  • I love this. I just love anything to do with history.

    Thank you.

  • Amazing.

The actresses and actors have long since died, but their performance lives on over a century later via Youtube.

    Technology is a mixed blessing.

  • A million thanx for this picture! I love it!

  • thenoblequran (Ctrl+Enter)

  • this movie was filmed in lincoln heights ca, selig studios california

  • @JeresyMike18 the fact that LSD wasn't invented yet doesn't mean that Carroll wasn't tripping. Hallucinogenic mushrooms have been known about for centuries, and ergot, what LSD was first synthesized from, is believed by many to have played a role in the Salem witch trials. In addition, mercury poisoning inspired the phrase "mad as a hatter", a phrase that predates Through the Looking Glass and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by about 30 years. Perhaps that might have played a role as well.

  • @Strapon6shooter Right. How many drug users do you know who are able to carry hyper-logicality, brilliant wordplay, mathematical games and satirical poetry over the length of two novels and countless poems and short sketches? Dumb junkies have inspired a phrase... what is it again... Oh yeah! "Dumb junkies", predating the life of Charles Dodgson by about 4,000 years. "Carroll wuz tripping!!!11 omg lulz!1!!" So tired.

  • I wonder how people would react if I could go back in in the past with some 3D glasses and Avatar

  • OFF WITH HIS HEAD!!

  • @lucas070798 LSD wasn't invented until 1938. All the rumors about drugs inspiring Lewis Carroll to write Alice are false.

  • I bet it had an excellent resolution and quality back in 1908.

  • @TheJarvier yeah this was like it's HD 3d stuff for them back then LOL

  • man, i cant hear shit, my speakers must be fucked!

  • @mikeyt12321 well for one thing its a silent movie. sound wasn't added to film until the late 20's and early 30's so your speakers are most likly fine lol

  • Obviously she was extremely high on PCP.

  • I kind of like the unrestored touch , very freaky in general

  • I kind of like the unrestored touch

  • im 14 and love these old movies... my friends think i'm insane

  • @EkseteraEksetera coz' you watch old movies o.o ? this is art =3

your friends are insane ;D (no offense) ^ ^

  • @iixNe0NBl4cKxii none taken. they are insane, thats why they're my friends

  • I've always loved these type of films....so...not even words to describe =D Classic doesnt seem like a BIG enough word to use..argh I think people today should make more silent films....just to keep atleast a small fraction of genuinity in this new age. In my opinion, a lot of talent and creativity and originality died off....The only things I can think of is the film what dreams may come, the director and artiste, Tim Burton, the actor Johnny Depp, and a few others---all of our originally died

  • "Whoops, looks like we forgot the table. Oh well, we'll just pause the camera and add it in." xD

  • @Envergure No no no... (my but today's generation is thick) that was done on purpose, it's part of the story, a table suddenly appearing! Excellent trick photography in such an early film. The whole production is quite impressive for its time.

  • the rabbit is creepy.

  • Oddly enough, I think this is best movie of "Alice in Wonderland" ever made. It definitely tops the good (but odd) Tim Burton production, or the old Disney one, which lumped "Alice in Wonderland" together with "Through the Looking Glass", though at least the Disney version did manage to capture some of the dry humour of the books. This 1903 version really captured the image of Wonderland, and though it's very short, it managed to be a fairly accurate adaptation of scenes from the book! Bravo!

  • This is scary

  • @rickardheterjag why was this scary? i didnt want to see it all so i just skiped some parts...

  • I wonder what people thought of this movie back in 1903? They probably were very confused and it must have been quite the trip. Doubt all people know of the novel.

Back then movies were just short clips made for entertainment before the theatre plays, which what people really payed to see. I am not entirely sure but before Griffith's "Birth of the Nation" in 1915, nobody had tried making long motion pictures.

  • I have made a series of paintings from this film, thank you to the uploader :]

  • @45pp you did? If you put the images online, can you share the URL?

  • Despite the fact that this is in very poor condition, it is still amazing, especially for its time period.

  • This film would have been shot on cellulose nitrate stock and shows signs of severe oxidation, which is to be expected for its age; 107 years! That it survives at all is somewhat of a miracle. Surprisingly, the costuming seems rather elaborate and sophisticated for the time, and some of the effects are very interesting.

Its an exquisite look into a World which has long since disappeared (in 1903 there was NO plastic). Heartwarming, touching and poignant window into the past.

  • I am of the opinion that most silent films can be best appreciated when they are truly silent. That is to say, unaccompanied by a musical score.

    This is no exception.

Thank you for the upload, LBfan0685. It's funny, I seem to prefer the unrestored version - it's more natural, more beautiful. I feel as though I could run my fingertips over the silver nitrate...a restored, digitized picture simply couldn't have the same effect.

All things considered, a lovely film adaptation of a lovely story.

  • All I can think of is The Ring

  • WAY better then tim burton's version

  • this was horrible, I've seen many silent movies including older than this one and it's most certainly the worst I've seen so far...

  • Rabbit has a muffin top. xp

Impressive movie though for it's time. :) Wish I could play around with these awesome oldie cameras today...

  • LOL at the Rabbit

  • Apparently someone forgot to upload the audio with this one... oh wait

  • That was 1st class.I really enjoyed it.Great post

  • Fantastic! i like when the table just appears in the beginning lol

  • thanks for posting this!! Fantastic!

  • I really enjoyed that. I have to say GREAT job considering what was available. I'm getting into making a silent film series and am getting a lot from watching these. Thanks for uploading :)

  • ODD. Look at 2.15. In the Spigot holes, 3of them, there are images. The centre one is a Dogs face. The top looks like a Cat. Cannot make out the bottom image.

You need to be nifty with the run/pause button.

????????? Cannot always freeze on the same frame but similar images occur on other frames.

  • Realize that film was invented in 1900. So this was when the medium was only 3 years old. And that is amazing!

  • The actors are all dead now. Creepy... º~º

  • pretty cool, i didn't know this story was written in 1865.

  • Odd? the spigot holes show from time to time but the frames do not jump. Lighting is good. Fade 'in' and 'out' worthy of later years. Deterioration of the film appears unusually selective and not across the entire frame.

It must have had some specialist restore, processing or transcribing in order for it to be so stable.

But, "there you go", or other philosophical phrases. Perhaps this will be marked up as Spam?

  • That rabbit has got mixy.

  • That rabbit had mixy.

  • I'm surprised that you can still actually see the film because it's so old. I figured that film this old would have crumbled by now.

  • @neinsudtexas10 they re thingied it.

  • This is better then what Tim Burton did.

  • how did you even get this???

  • Wow, this is a great short but the film is in terrible quality. I'd like it better if somebody were to restore this

  • @tamsWTFvideos this is actually in great condition if you keep in mind that this film is from 1907! Most films from that time has deteriorated completely-crumbled or cracked.Actually if you look at films that were made 20 years after this one(in the 20's) you'll see that not even those films are as good quality as this one!

  • eerie

  • Omg, where did you get this?

  • I blame them moving pictures for today's violence!!

  • @terk0iz really its just "African American" Racism towards whites and their use of drugs and resentments towards society.

  • Can you imagine the kind of money it would take to restore this film using digital tech and CGI?

  • Wow you weren't kidding when you said bad quality. Looks like a bootleg version of a silent film.

  • @ImSorryOfficer lmfao thats exactly what i was thinking hhhaha

  • that film alice 1903 is better than 2010

  • At least Johnny Depp's not in this one.

  • Amazing, I did not know this existed. It really seems to me that they did a great job recreating the look of the illustrations, and I haven't read the book in many years. Would love to see this with music

  • Amazing, I did not know this existed. It really seems to me that they did a great job recreating the look of the illustrations, and I haven't read the book in many years. Would love to see this with music.

  • check out my Silent Vampire Film....peter coukis

  • Wow! How did they get her to shrink? This was FAR before special effects....why are all the oldest films the best!?

  • @linkfan160

Looked to me like they pulled the camera back to make it look like she was shrinking.

  • I 'm so glad that you took the effort to put this on Youtube. It's age makes it so entertaining.....and thanks to you, perserving. Really good stuff!

  • it is scary.

  • @LBfan0685 actually TV first where around in the 50s :P

  • i cant wait for this on bluray ;P

  • It's changed so much!

  • @LBfan0685 oh yeah, sorry - did not get the context ;) by the way , info for others: The first public exhibition of projected motion pictures in the United States was at Koster and Bial's Music Hall on 34th Street in New York City on April 23, 1896

  • NICE all we need is A Marilyn Manson song

  • @LBfan0685 It's amazing how Disney doesn't have an original backbone in their body...

  • @LBfan0685 Oh...

  • very interesting

  • it's broken, no sound!

    ok, just kidding =3

    *retard*

  • cool! and wow, more than 100 years

  • @raq2snake LOL no he didn't. he was bland. he saw money bags and cashed in, that's all it is. tim burton and ALL who participated ruined alice's adventures in wonderland.

  • wow smartest comment of life || || V

  • almost 100 years old

  • dumbass!! it is 107 years old!!!!!

  • @aguilasdelamerica25 sorry that was my littke cousin who wrote that, not me.

  • lol. more than 100. try 107 years old.

  • its still technically "almost 100 years old" dumbass. Almost just means "close to." Doesn't necsesarily have to be at least or below.

  • @xaznacex no. if it was almost 100 years old it would be 99, 98, 97 or 1 second under 100. and you consider me a dumbass? lol, i think we'll need a new dictionary word for your intelligence.

  • @xaznacex no it doesn't you fucking dickhead.

  • a million times better than the newest one

  • 1903? OMG.......

  • I need someone to come and play some music like in those days hahaha :)

  • I bet when this came out people nearly crapped their pants, with good reason! Even in today standards this is a high-quality film. Without even speaking one word, they captured something amazing. That even the most talented people of today with the greatest of technology can't even touch.

  • @AnomalyDrake are you high?

  • @AnomalyDrake what??

  • @AnomalyDrake I love what you said. Definitely agree

  • @AnomalyDrake

Wow, you very eloquently captured the feeling I have for many of these early films, this one included.

  • @AnomalyDrake Agreed! For 1903, it was amazing...even later...very cool

  • It is interesting to watch a movie that is made back in 1903. Ppl may complain about the quality, but come on. They couldnt do, what we can now. They didnt even have tv. It's fun to see the difference between this one, and the newest alice in wonderland.

  • wow....i thought the earliest one waz 1910! so this story is 107 years old?! daymn! thts incredible! i will watch this ovr n ovr till i get bored....

  • @megAnNayo All of the Alice In Wonderland films are based on Lewis Carroll's book 'Alice's Adventures In Wonderland' which was first published in 1865, and it's sequel 'Through The Looking Glass' (1871)

  • is it just me or do i feel like the grudge is coming after me for watching this...

  • its just u...

  • wow this is great!

  • sweet

  • lol@the cat. aaaaw

  • I Fell in love with alice after seeing this movie

    bit(. )ly/aliceeee

  • Huh? just 8 minutes of movie?

  • @guoyann well it was made in 1903 and it was a lot more difficult to make like 2 hour movies back then

  • lol aw the ending card was adorable

  • Its sad to see things like this in bad condition. i think its interesting to have this little film on youtube. But its weird, on the wikipedia, it says there are parts of this film missing but it seems like the hole movie is here

  • @twyborn29 you're right!! you can really see the difference as the picture is much clearer and less blurred. I also like the range of the colour tints that have been restored and the new music track.

  • id say this is their equivilant to avatar in their day XD it rocks to this day tho!

  • Absolutley wonderful!

  • Oh my god!!!

I love to see at those clips from 100 years ago...I say..no Internet, Telephones , TV , GOD!!!!

Not even Magazines like we see today, there wasnt in that time o_O

  • I love this! It MUST be rare.

  • um does this come in hq lmao.

  • I'll take AVATAR pl0x.

  • Omg, this movie is so old... that it's funny :P

In those days it was exciting, but not these days.

  • the special effects are really good

  • this would bug me how can people watch silent films there anyoing

  • @PopStar394

Maybe you should learn how to spell.

  • @PopStar394 Seriously? Then why would you bother to watch this and comment?

Do you realize that when this was shown in the theaters that there would have been live accompaniment music being played as the musical score, a piano or organ, or in the more swanky theaters and entire orchestra? Just wondering..

And BTW- it's "they're annoying" not "there annoying" just so you know for future reference. :)

  • oh my god

    this is so cool

    !!!!!!

this is like the coolest thing ever by far

  • The words go by too fast!

  • a treasure

  • You must've read the book to follow this film - if you've only seen the Disney version you'll see a lot of characters you don't know (e.g. the dutchess and the pig-baby). Great to see 100 year old special effects :)
