One thing I found really annoying about this game; you couldn't hold more than 99 rings at a time; The 100th ring would wrap around so you had zero rings. Collect 100 rings, take a hit, you die. Also, this was important if you wanted to go to the special stages; You had to make sure not to grab a 100th ring, or kiss your special stage goodbye. Granted, the special stages were less important in the MS/GG versions, but it was still an annoyance.

This is the first video game I ever played, it's what started my addiction.
Phew! I'm glad you went back to pick up the Chaos Emerald, it looked like you were going to leave without it.
