Ray Peat said he had a friend run out and get him "huge milkshakes" every hour to help him keep his energy up during a long radio interview session until 1 AM. Later, he slept well that night - which caused him to consider the value of sugar in his diet.
For some reason the words, “huge milkshakes” makes me laugh every time I think of how he said it.
@spellititti have you read Linus Paulins book with Judkins research - slightly alarming as sucrose intake goes up CVD goes up and when it goes down CVD goes down - and when you look at the numbers its almost like as you cross a certain invisible line - the risk factos start multiplying exponentially... Very interesting
To the uploader, Gotta say, Ray Peat is way more convincing than you. The points you bring up seem pretty basic, I find your belief that Ray Peat has "overlooked" such simple ideas.... well not likely. Not saying that Ray Peat has everything right, but I am surprised that you find yourself more informed than him.
This is all ridiculous, looking at a food in terms of one of it's components alone. According to "medical literature" yeah that's always so reliable. The guy making this video acts like he was there in the lab for every experiment ever done on sucrose. He's just parroting what he's read, his confidence is misplaced. To look at the benefits of a potato based on one thing only is insane. People are making this so hard and so counterintuitive and so dry. Learn what's right for your own body!
What I read, is that the PUFAs cause Leptin (and insulin) resistance. The main problem with Leptin doesn't seem to be the fructose (from whole fruits) but the PUFAs.... And fruit does contain a certain amount of glucose too, so it raises insulin and leptin probably just enough. What's your take on that?
I'll stick with my 3 pieces of fruit per day. That can't really be harmful... And I agree with you completely that whole foods are way better than any kind of ice cream etc.
What about eating a lot of FRUIT SMOOTHIES before and/or after body building trying to gain muscle? or are whole grains like brown rice, quinoa or oatmeal better?
I appreciate this and I've heard many educators speak on this topic, but nobody is discussing FRUIT??? fructose is naturally IN fruit. WHAT ABOUT FRUIT??
Ray Peat's research has persuaded me, too, that the PUFA oils are not only not essential to health they are toxic.
He also says potatoes are high quality protein.
About fructose, are you referring to this article? raypeat.com/articles/articles/glycemia.shtml
"...Fructose inhibits the stimulation of insulin by glucose, so this means that eating ordinary sugar, sucrose ... in place of starch, will reduce the tendency to store fat. ... Eating starch... stimulates the appetite ... "
But all fruits contain fructose and glucose. If you want only fructose you have to eat HFCS.

@edwardjedmonds Do you live in the Germany I live? Germany has the biggest problem with obesity in the whole europe!
But you´re right - it´s not the soda. German people like whole grain very much and of course many of toxic oils.

@edwardjedmonds they use real sugar in Coke in Europe. In the US, it's high fructose corn syrup, and they are not the same.

Ray Peat is the brilliantest guy ever on the diet scene. His diet healed me from my problems and it works much better than low carb or high starch.

@TheCrosswind You should eat starch after bodybuilding. Starch highers insulin much more than fruits and sugar.
