  • People sometimes like to moan about modern life but at least nowadays if your getting into a band, you can go onto youtube and instantly access interviews, live performances and the vhs treasures of their fans. Back in the 80's or 90's you could only dream of this stuff.

  • they look like the biggest stoners ever

this music can't ve been made without drugs, i wouldn't believe it!

she's got a beautiful voice even when she'(s not singing

  • are the cocteau twins stoners?

  • @strokesfan1107 No. Robin was/is a chronic asthma sufferer, and was on large doses of steriods, which is why he was a bit of a fat chap. Liz didn't even drink alcohol, let alone drugses.

  • elisabeth fr is so timid...I love her !!!!

  • she moves like a pretty bird... sigh...

  • 2:46 sounds like: "There's plans to do a Cocteau Twins video stroke film"....LOL

  • @apocalypsynch that's exactly what he says. I think he meant to say slash, not stroke. Or maybe the brits say stroke instead of slash...

  • Liz is so cute in this

  • I have to say, Robin is my favourite guitar player, but I think he's actually aged to look better than he did then. Going to see him on sunday :D

  • I cant get over the idea that Liz went out with this ugly drug fucked freak lol thats showbiz

  • Robin Guthrie is the Cocteua Twins!!!!

  • I think he has some kind of tobacco in his mouth. About his cuteness: His personality is attractive. Both his and Liz´s. They are soothing to watch and listen to. Everything they say makes sense, sensible and smart people they are.. i love them!

  • never considered robin's cuteness but, well, he was cute!

  • What is in Robin' mouth?! Is that a tooth that is messed up or does he have a toothpick?! Someone elaborate on this I am truly confused!

  • A pair of very delightfull young geniuses! Come back CT!

  • Elisabeth is truly an angel made flesh. We won't see her like again soon.

  • didnt liz go out with jeff buckley? sure i heard or seen that somewhere.

  • I think as far as I heard, when Jeff played his first gig in England, he met Liz and ended up sleeping with her.

    Two legends making love....that poetic!

  • again none of your biz..

  • wtf does that bhave to do with her music..eediotrt...shes my kinswoman ..

  • Always thought Robin was kinda cute...are they still married?

  • No, they broke up in the 90s around the same time as Four Calendar Cafe came out. Robin has a new partner and may have remarried. The relationship between them apparently irretrievably broke down to the point where Liz will not take part in any Cocteau-related thing with Robin involved.

  • I didn't realize it had got to that point between them, I thought the band split was just that, and everybody was still friends. That's really sad!!

I still wish somebody could talk them into releasing the last songs they produced together, the recordings that the song 'Touch Upon Touch' came from...

  • @Turk2112 Which sucks really, because I'd like to see some of the unreleased material get out there or possibly the chance to see them live

  • They split up around 1996. Robin lives in France.

  • Agreed about Robin :)

  • I love that this video is available, I wish more people would watch this video. Especially those people who "MAKE" youtube videos and use CTwins music, all those horrible montages that are in no way justifiable.

  • I remember a word of morrisey who said that the rebel voices of the rock was not necessarily the strong voices aggressive and violent provacodor be in a sweet and quiet is more threatening to throw a beer bottle to the guy of the record company

  • Morrissey and Liz Fraser are my favorite male and female voices, respectively. :)

  • Seconded

  • Nice interview and interesting points made about making lengthy videos.

  • I love how Robin comes off as borderline autistic here. It reminds me of myself. Actually we have the same last name.

  • @kaguth So your name is Kaguth Guthrie then?

  • no k.a. are my first two initials and guth is short for guthrie, but good guess.

  • Holy shit, that's Vaughn Oliver, the graphic design for 23 envelope towards the end there.

    Also, Robin's teeth = WTF?

  • if robins teeth bothers u so much go watch a jessica simpson video

  • @juanwernicke fucking good answear ;)

  • @juanwernicke I'm a Shane MacGowan fan, no teeth can bother you after his

  • she's so gentle and sweet.

  • steve coogan must have seen this to get inspiration for the character of the swimming pool attendant

i met them back in the mid 80s, they lived in turnham green, i cant remember Robin being so dull!! its mad to think he was a big coke head in the 90s, at least he probably lost some weight!

i laughed out loud when i saw the howard jones on crack comment posted here, quality!!

  • I'm probably about to say soemthing really thick but I had no idea they were scottish.

  • OMG, where are his TEETH? He looks like Howard Jones on crack...

  • theyre so cuute!

    what a document. Thanks

  • her speaking voice is so high soft and danity I would be scared to speak with her cause even her speakin voice is kinda moving.. and robin...geez..the facial her done him well what he does on the guitar is pretty darn tootin..

  • this is AWESOME.

  • "We're not like that" - 'articulate', you mean?

That's so funny to see such talented people talk like such proletarians.

  • what!? that attitude went out with the bloomsbury group!

  • They're from an oiltown on the east Scottish coast, where everyone talks like that, which I think makes what they do all the more special.

  • I will always love the cocteau twins. There music is so emotional....so reeallll. How can you not love them. Hands down the best in there genre of ethereal. Maybe one of th best bands to have existed to present date. They just don't make bands like this anymore. Truly a dying breed. I love you liz.

  • she is so lovable... my favorite singer of all time. i have a picture disc LP interview that is soooo painful to listen to. i think it's done by this same interviewer, but Liz and Robin are boiling water for tea and it's blowing in the background and they just let it go lol, then they simply refuse to answer his questions by being totally belligerent.

  • ah the voice of an angel....

  • Um, sorry Replicess, the one in the black is actually Vaughan Oliver, the one in grey is Nigel Grierson (check out the other clip of them discussing record sleeves)

  • @kerebus would you please put subtitiles??it would be wonderful to understand everything for non-anglophone people. Thanks!;)!

  • jlanglois,

The guy in the black top is the one and only Ivo

  • Wow...I always imagined Robin Guthrie a little different...I dont know...thiner? Anyway, I think the best thing about Cocteau Twins is that their music is so good, that the last thing you care about is the appearance of the people who make it.

  • Then why mention it

  • This feels Strange to watch, I've listened to them for like 20 years and never saw them, I didn't know they had videos and did interviews, and now I come to You tube and see everything at one time. it's just wierd

  • i know what you mean. I am seeing so many older groups for the first time, it feels like being in the present with them again. Its reliving it all over, thats kinda surreal.

  • First time I've heard Liz speak, so thank you Kerebus and YouTube!

They are both so painfully shy. I kinda expect that of Liz but Robin was a real shock. I always had the impression he was a bit like Dave Stewart (Eurythmics) but clearly not. Or he was massively hungover...

  • Amazing and a little shocking to hear them talking. Then there's the 23 Envelope guys talking about making a 45min long conceptual video of the Cocteau Twins. I wonder if that was ever made. From the intereview now I know why a video compulation was never released. Interesting stuff. THANK YOU!!! I'm a big fan.

  • Well, they did make a 45 min. conceptual video in a sense, but it wasn't of solely the Cocteaux. It looks like the idea got transferred and became Lonely is an Eyesore.

  • Yeah, I was thinking that. I have that video. Good stuff! Cheers.

  • what's the point og making a video to "watch while you listen to the music"? I thought it was universally accepted that people have sex while listening to this music, that's whats so wonderful about it.

  • i love her

  • Does anyone know who the other two guys are? I assume that one is Nigel Grierson...

  • Wow - I've never heard her speak at all! So lovely! In the background you can hear a telephone ringing. I think it's Tim Burton. He wants his hairdo back.

  • even her speaking voice gives me chills

  • Finally, a decent interview. Thank you soo much!
