I've heard many Indians sing this song. This Jon Higgins version stirs my soul more than any other and brings tears to my eyes. His call to Krishna is so sincere that I feel Krishna must have heeded.
listening to this song at almost midight,in its silent glory and solitude ,,,,brings tears of joy and bhakti in me...god bless me for born during this period to listen to these great singers....chembai,jesu,balamurali....and the world's higgins bhagavathar.....i am hubled by the bhakti they have put in the keerthana,,,heavens for all these immortal singers forever....
May the Noble Soul of late John B. Higgings be blessed by the Almighty Lord Shree Krishna Maharaj. JBH touched the hearts of all hindus through his soulful rendition of this keertana! Let me wash his intangible feet with my tears of joy!
You will live in our hearts and of every true music lover in India.
This is sooo beautiful. It brings tears of joy and I am not that religious but love music. The more I listen to Mr. Higgins the more I am in awe - such sublime beauty in his voice and renditions. Thanks for the post.
i am a great fan of JBH. he used to visit our bookshop in chennai regularly. my father knew him very well. he came to our house too and i was fortunate to have met him.
I was lucky to hear this great soul first on Air during the seventies.A white man singing with great devotion, like George harrison he loved Krishna. His music brings the lords rupam to ones mind.
I've heard a story about Jon Higgins in connection with this kriti. He was not allowed to enter the Udupi Srikrishna temple during one of his visits on the basis that he was a Christian. He decided to sit in front of the temple with his accompanists... he sang Krishna nee begane... and the chief temple priest came out .... he is said to have stated that Krishna will not allow him to sit inside if Jon was not permitted inside... and he heartily welcomed Jon into the temple with Purnakumbham...
John Higgins was a prodigy. It was really surprising and amazing for an American to come to Chennai and learn Carnatic Music and reach the pinnacle of glory. I remember seeing him going on his bicycle on Royapettah High Road, Chennai, where I lived during my school days, many a time. What a tragedy he died in an accident. He was known to have spread Carnatic Music in the U.S. He had picked up Carnatic music very fast.
Thanks. This is my favorite of all. JH's rendering is divine. He must have been a person of the subcontinent in his last life to sing this composition with such tremendous feeling. And the clarity and purity of his diction!
I have a CD of his music that someone converted for me from the analog recording. Do you have any video clips of him in concert?
@Lotus2963 I am glad to note that you are a fan of JBH just like me. The temple that is posted is that of Lord Venkateswata located just outside of Orlando Florida USA. The temple also has many deties to cater for individual preferences.
Brilliant. Have been searching this for a long time. Thanks for uploading this. Amazing that an American could learn Carnatic music and sing so divinely. And this was all well before globalisation.

Its very Hard know that a wonderful soul got misplaced in this world.
Now he is suffering in His eternal life.
He knew-ed that praises r to be to Christ.
It is very painful that He got diversified from the greatest LOVE showed by GOD to him..
The one who came into this world and died for His sins and rose again is Jesus whom Higgins forsaked.
Too bad for Him.
Hope His sins were forgiven in God's eternal place.
The word of GOD fulfills in such a way tat my own ppl will forsake me.
Plz repent.

This is by Vyasa theertha, guru of Kanaka dasaru and Purandara dasaru. His mudhra was 'Sri Krishna'.

His death was a great loss to carnatic music. So much emotion in his singing.
