  • I just drove home from Long Beach and this was in my head and here they are playing live in Long Beach so weird.

  • My guess is the audio is from the soundboard, with clips from actually performing the song and clips of them fooling around on the stage before the show.

  • are they doing playback?

  • @pedritomelo nope

  • I saw this one time in a coffee shop in Amsterdam, after a few joints I could only remember this performance for all my life :p

  • That crowd is awesome!

  • Is that John?

  • anthony looks so fucking hot here

  • 'hd' mi culo!!

  • I NEED M00:00RE

  • lyrics are wrong

  • oo john ♥♥ This video is amazing ♥

  • wow 0 dislikes looks like we aint gonna have to knock anyone down

  • @000Christoph000 , I Love you

  • most of the vhs is live, but it is my suspicion that some songs arent due to anthony possibly sounding off. he wasnt the best singer back in the 80's.

  • its so lonley when you dont even know yourself, its so lonley

  • This concert is actually on record as one of the worst edited concerts ever. The audio is from the actual song at the actual concert, but half of the video.

Besides, it's easy to tell this isn't the studio version by the emphasis Anthony puts on certain words such as that epic 'Behind'.

    Also, there's no overdubbed guitar.

So yes, I believe it is live.

  • it's so lonely, when you don't even know yourself <3

  • you have like the best 47 uploads of youtube! congrats!

  • if this is from 1989 no way is it live coz kiedis wasnt a good enough singer to sing this well live back then.

  • @jem6842 They didnt play this song live after 1990 so you will find this is live in 1989.

  • you can tell very clearly this is not the studio version, John Frusciante is the main singer in the studio version, that seems to be reversed her.

  • @joelibermann No... no he's... no.

  • @HideFromFacebook

yes he is. his vocals are much more prominent then Anthony's in the studio version.

  • @joelibermann And you can tell clearly that this is not the original live audio version, they obviously edited it...

  • Yes..to much for my hearth

  • and now to replace john frusciante is chuck norris

  • loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee it !

  • Hell ya, old school Peppers!

  • why isnt john singing? thats the one song with him as lead vocals!!

  • @skizmsucks23 3:05 he sings

  • @justKeepSmilingks he supposed to sing the whole song

  • @skizmsucks23

    LOL. No. No he's not.

  • @WondrousBurrito lol lol listen to the fucking album

  • @skizmsucks23

LOL HOLY FUCK. You are right good sir. My apologies. I didnt realize they sung it simultaneously. My bad. Sorry bruh. Never really gave the song a good listen, just kinda let it run on my ipod.

  • @WondrousBurrito dont worry about it

  • @WondrousBurrito

if you listen to the original knock me down version, the harmony is like it's here, but the record company didn't like Anthony's singing so they drowned out his voice with John's.

  • btw, if the audio is not from the concert (which I suspect) I would be kinda disapointed... I really prefer hearing them live!

  • @bergjasper The audio is from the concert. There are many short scenes from different parts of the concert (like 2:14), that makes the video a bit "strange". Maybe the director thought it looks better with them... (The video is from the Psychedelic Sexfunk Live from Heaven VHS.)

  • @000Christoph000 Ah I see, well it sounds great as usual :)

  • @000Christoph000 no, te audio is definately not from the concert. just take a listen to their live knock me down videos and to their original record of the song and you will easily realize this. all they have done is adding some whoaas and hoorays of the audience here and there in the original record and adding it to the video. so please stop posting wrong comments if you don't have a single idea about what you're talking about.

  • @NoChrReq where is Vickie Calhoun's vocals in the end? Seems like you dont know what youre talking about

  • @BassMan21197 dude, i bet you really don't have an idea on how a recording is done. all of the instrument and vocals are recorded into different tracks, remove the backing vocal track of Calhoun and voila, there you have a song without the backing vocal. why don't you just listen to other live versions and compare it to this one? it's like black and white not a rocket science, easy to understand.

  • whatever, im not gonna waste my time arguing, i know how recordings are done, but i believe this is live

  • @000Christoph000 its a mix of the concert and the sound check.

  • @bergjasper you can hear it is live by the echo of the snare from chad's drumkit a recorded snare doesn't sound so open on studio records

  • @ManuWaterschoot That still does not convince me, more tells me it's too similiar to the oficial track, I mean: they either edited the original track to make it fit the live performance better or make it sound 'live' OR they edited the live version to make it sound all smooth. I've heard 1000s of high quality UNEDITED live performances by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and it was nothing like this. This is not the original live audio.

  • @bergjasper And why would they do that?

  • @ManuWaterschoot I agree the drums are live, but I think that is it. Or maybe there is an effect on the album drums. This sounds like the vocals were taken from the demo version of the song where Anthony's voice is more present. The video where they play Sexy Mexican Maid for this show gives it away, the guitar is identical to the album

  • @DannyMullenBjj maybe, maybe not, it's a great video to watch and listen to nevertheless :-)

  • @bergjasper The red hot have recorded all the songs of this concert,1 week before the concert. In the original live, they normally played the songs, but on the DVD that comprends those videos, the sound (exepted the voice) is pre-registrated.

  • Wait, is this live or studio version?

    well... GREAT anyway!

  • Anthony is hot, John is hot, omfg. I'm in love

  • i seen them in 89 in oakland,,killer show

  • best uploader! thank's

  • Fucking awesome

  • fucking beautiful.

  • keep uploading videos like this; i love them!

  • alguien sabe si va a dar conciertos en MExico este año ??

  • i love you christoph

  • i love flea's head banging

  • not live.

  • @k0stil Yes it is......

  • @RHCPFreaklolNEW

well yeah they performed it live but the sound on the dvd (in this video, since its from the dvd) was replaced with the audio from the album version.but they edited it a bit (added audience sounds, echo).

compare it to the studio version.

there are a lot of songs on psychedelic sexfunk that were replaced with an original track

  • @k0stil Yeah, I know that, that's obvious that it's the studio version but they did play it live, as you said.

  • this is one of my favourite rhcp songs :D ty for uploading.

    I love Johns hair xD

  • Shit that was amazing.
