I remember when I seen this for the first time. I actually started crying while she was singing, and then I seen Paula was too.. It was weird x_x. Seeing this for the first time on television was really powerful. Her voice inspires emotion in you I think. It's just a very honest & raw sound. Can sense the pain in it :).
I love both Barbra and Fantasia and I love both versions for different reasons. Barbras voice makes the song soar you're kind of up there floating her, its very bitterswseet. Fantasias version is soulful, emotional, grounded and pierces to the heart. Two great interpretations of a great song by two great artists.

Well this is the first time I've heard of this girl- she sings it well but in my opinion Barbra's voice is much better suited - the lower tone of Barbra's voice sits well with the song and she has soo much emotion behind everything she sings!

How can you even compare this to Barbra's version , Fantasia said she'd was worried about forgetting the lyrics as she'd only just learnt the song yet she still did an incredible job and remember she was still a teenager when she sang this !

First time i heard this song was when she did on idol, as i like 13 and didn't know too much about barbara streisand. years later i managed to hear streisand's version and it does nothing to me. just before she dedicated the song to her daughter hich was touching and then after she sang it was just like WOW, paula was even in tears she could hardly speak. fantasia is so amazing.

It's that wonderful MELODY on this song that makes this song so great. That is somethin' today's music needs to get back to. This kind of melody is timeless. It separates real sangers from the not so real, because ur pitch has to be spot on or it show and will sound horrible.

Wow...I thought I was the only one that thought that. On this performance she showed off that wonderful tone and also showed that she could sing a song straight and still fill it with all the passion. She still holds the throne as the greatest american idol to step foot on the stage.

I had the version she did where she sang the words properly, but I recall preferring this version for some reason. I wish I had picked up the CD I put my favorite Idol performances on when I went home last month so that I could listen again.

oh my goodness...this performance always gives me the chills. One of my Top 3 AI Fantasia performances. I hope down the road with more maturity she will broaden her horizons and put stuff like this on her album

this is probably THE MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT of AI I think,, when she said, I'm going to sing a song by Barbra Streisand and dedicate it to my little girl,,,,then proceeded to own this song as much as anyone EVER, I'm sure Barbra's even listened to this more than a few times. That's totally true; she is definitely the best current singers in the world. Fantasia has something that none of the current idols has. She can connect with the audience, she delivered extremely well, she sang intensely and it always comes from her heart. OMG it is so hard to put in a word. I love you Fantasia - your fan from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

No. Ms.Streisand covered it. The original artist is Shirley Bassey who also sung Diamonds Are Forever. Both great versions though.

This was probably one of my best performance I've seen from FANTASIA. I mean its really not her genre type of song, but the way she sang this song was just very full of conviction and shows a lot of passion. Nicely done!
