great breakdown by a really good bassist. one issue though: bass isn't playing A-C#-E-C#-E in the first pattern of the verse. it's actually A-G-C-E-C-E ,or third & fifth notes a half-step down if playing in a different key. i knew it sounded a bit off here, the first pattern doesn't transpose properly to the second pattern (should be Am7 down to F#m7). confirmed by vid: search 'break it down ray bonus 2'. starts playing it at around 0:14
@matthelbig Didn't the guy (forget his name) who played with Elvis (and did that awesome fill on SUSPICIOUS MINDS in the VEgas DVD) also do some sessions with The Doors???
@iPaulClancyx OK - sometimes stuff gets lost in spam filters and the like. Use the Message function from YouTube page and send me your email address and I'll manually add you. You'll get an email that you'll have to confirm to - but then you'll be signed up. HTH.
Nice job! To my ears, the bass isn't quite as loud as your voice for some reason, i.e. the bass isn't as clear sounding as you're speaking voice. It could be due to my listening environment, or...? Regardless, I greatly appreciate this detailed lesson.
well, of coure it would work as long as you're following the right chords you could play nything mate, all im saying is that this is not the actual bassline which was played for the original song, hope you don't get this the wrong way
Awesome lesson, although the note G at 08:14 is actually the 5th fret on the d string, not the 7th. That confused me for a bit when I was playing by ear. Props for continuing saying it's the 7th throughout the vid though ;)
can you teach us how to move your finger around on the bass i feel that im doing it wrong it si way different from what yoiur doing and i know that people have there own way of doing thing but i think i would be better of doing it your way.write back soon paul
Hey Mikuiel Can you be more specific? I guess you mean the left hand? IF that's the case there's a video in my How to Play Bass for Beginners series on left hand technique....you could chekc that out.
Thanks for the comments - I don't do face to face lessons anymore, but the next best thing is that I teach via an online system. If you're interested head over to my website and look for the Online Bass Lessons link.

AICfan1994 1 year ago
@AICfan1994 You thought wrong. Joe Osborn recorded bass on multiple Doors albums. He just wasn't used live. Don't talk, you sound like an idiot.

this is key of A, original was recorded in A# (1/2 step lower)v
Interst890 1 year ago
There's a mistake in the verse part...is A minor...so...the notes must be A, G, C, E...etc....the same with the F# minor part...by the way, good job!

I played along with the original and it is a half step down in the verse than what you say; Ab, F, Gb, Ab, Db, Gb, Ab, Db, Bb, Gb, Db, Eb.

intro is wrong mate, you're following the fender rhodes bass, not the electric guitar bass
fishenelmar 2 years ago
If you were learning it for a gig and your keyboard/organ player didn't have bass pedals what line would you play?
How about posting a video lesson on that line as a Video Reply so people can cross reference both lines? that would be really cool...

great video, though you mistook your wording around 8:30, you meant to say 5th fret of the D string right? not the seventh?

Thanks, great video!
