  • Rodney n I were great friends who hung out on 10th n mifflin St South Philly,PA. I loved him! I miss him much n I can only thank Drew Barrymore 4 burying him were he belonged HOLLYWOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I miss u my friend:)

  • i really can`t understand how can someone destroy everything in life,i mean everything that really matters such as family, career, and above all life.he had everything to succed in life, but he sadly choose the wrong way that claimed his life.rip

  • thats pretty sick and heartless really

  • Nossa, to boba até agora... não sabia que ele tinha morrido.

    Mto triste isso....

Wow.. i'm shocked!!!! I didn't now that he had died... It's so sad...

  • May his soul rest in peace. I loved him so at 13 years old; "Salsa" was my favorite movie. Heroin has taken so many people, at such a young age.

Heroin seems to take a lot of people that are brimming with beauty and creative talent, in particular. The only positive aspect of that is that it may warn prospective users of these drugs away from picking them up.

Comfort and solace to his family and friends, and may his soul be at peace.

  • So sad so many talented people loose their lives to drugs and other related addictions.....i loved him in Salsa

  • Damn man I wish I hadn't seen this! Now I can't watch anything with him without thinking about what happened. P.S. I think I remember watching this ad in school but I didn't know it was the guy from Salsa.

  • I remember him from when my boyfriend at the time did a stint in rehab....he booked himself in so he could weasel his way out of jail for multiple DUIs ( didn't work...he went to the slammer for a year) and spent a month along with Steve Jones from the Sex Pistols and this guy. The drugs had'nt done him in yet, cos in the flesh he was one of the most incredibly gorgeous men I'd ever seen. he had a casts on his arm from a fight and he was really detoxing hard. Very sad.

  • Heart breaking to see Rodneys decline, he was a joy to work with, and I expected him to be a star one day. So very sad to see.

    Mike Pearce dir."Initiation."

  • Who is the narrator? He sounds familiar.

  • it sounds like Dennis Farina. not sure though

  • Such a sad ending for a young man. Breaks my heart. I ddint know he died from drugs.

  • He was i prettyboy R.I.P <3

  • What a handsome man

  • Wow....he was my fav actor on the movie "Salsa". He was such a handsome man with a lifetime of possibilities ahead of him....

  • R.I.P always remembered. xxx

  • I knew he died, but I didn't know that was how he died.

  • hay que ver que horrible les hace a las personas la maldita droga, que guapisimo era este chico

  • very sad to see such a talented guy go that way

  • awesome

  • Yet another victim of America's War on Drugs. If not for criminalization of drugs, Rodney could have received help as a patient instead of being thrown in jail. Shame on the DEA and all those who treat addicts as criminals instead of patients, for they are the ones truly responsible for Rodney's death.

  • That sucks... Rodney was a charming young man from what I was told. He was a good guy to have in your corner and he walked the walk. He was unbelieveably handsome and had a future. He blew it when he got hooked on drugs. It is too bad and I feel bad for his family.

  • R.I.P

  • This guy could've really gone places.he got the right combo of talent and looks and also a carisma that you just instantly fall in love with, which happened to me after seeing "my own private idaho" for the first time.

RIP Rodney and say hi to River Phoenix from a lot of people down here who miss him too.

  • He was one of the main stars in the TV series "Outsiders". RIP buddy!

    p.s. don't do drugs!!

  • Rest In Peace my friend....

  • i didnt know about, why? Why peopel do drugs? So young so cute so sexy he had his life before :( RIP

  • THIS USE TAH BE MY FAVORITE COMMERCIAL

  • This was tragic because I loved him in Salsa, So cute. He could've been so much more. If only????

  • He died at age 30. would have been 41 today if he didn't die.

  • Rip!

  • WHOS RODNEY?

  • Was an actor.

He preformed the movie "Salsa - It's Hot" (1988), he was Ken, Margarita's boyfriend (protagonist sister).

Sorry my english it's not the best!!! I hope you understand

  • i never heard of this actor, what was he famous for??

  • He was in 'My Own Private Idaho' with River Phoenix. He was also a Calvin Klein model :-)

  • I'm composing a montage of the work I've been in and I remember meeting Rodney the day of my audition for Mixed Blood. When I got the part in the movie I had hoped to get to know him but, things moved pretty fast on the set. I had no idea he was a tortured soul until I saw his biography on TV a few years back. May he rest in peace. I always thought he was talented and easy on the eyes. May his friends and family find comfort in the good memories they were able to partake with him.

  • rodney was my cousin. it was a big lose for my family

  • I am in shock. Just found out this minute. There are no words. Just that I hope he is at peace. In Gods Arms.

  • That's what Hollywood can do to you if you are not careful. There is too much pressure when you are a celeb and you would be shocked to know who does heavy drugs in the entertainment field. It's sad because he had the "it" factor and would have gone further.:(

  • I am so very sorry. I did not know this happened to him. I loved him in the movie Salsa. He was such a fine young man. It breaks my heart to see this happen.

May he rest in God's peace.

  • I also just found out that he died! When I was a little girl I was sooooo in love with him! Its a shame!! I didnt recognized him! I couldnt believe it!! I loved his eyes! Cute guy!!! RIP Rodney!!

  • man that really sucks i just seen him in the movie mixed blood he was kick ass in it ...its a damn shame he was a good actor.

  • damn man..sad! I just found out right now that he died..i didnt know...i remember him from Salsa...i remember girls going crazy for him in that film..he was very goodlooking guy and its a shame he threw that away... damn damn i feel sorry,

  • Wow, what a waste of talent. :/ He definitely would've had an amazing career.

  • Rodney for ever in my mind, in my heart, in my life.

  • It all started with that damn movie MY OWN PRIVATE IDAHO. Anyone notice that RIVER PHOENIX and FLEA were in that film too. During filming of that movie is when RIVER and RODNEY first injected H for the first time, ended up ruining them.

  • It was that damn movie, My Own Private Idaho.....River Phoenix and Rodney Harvey both started injecting Heroin for the first time during the filming of that movie. I know FLEA from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers was in that movie too. I KNOW he and his bandmates struggled with Heroin, I just think it was the wrong chemistry of actors, musicians, and real life Portland street kids. River was a method actor, but they all let the H take over them. Rod didn't inject H until 1991 and during MOPI

  • reaally sad drug is the same died

  • Its crazy how people say they just found out and this commercial came out in like 1998. For a while I thought this wasnt real until I looked Rodney up. classic commercial. JUST SAY NO

  • wow i just found out this guy died..drugs are a powerful thing suxs when people abuse them

  • RIP Rodney Harvey

I just watched him on the Outsiders TV show not to long ago

    What a damn shame =[

  • I saw Rodney in the movie salsa. He was such a sweetheart and looked so innocent. Drugs are an addiction that ruin and end lives. Let his story be a warning for others.

  • Believe it or not....he was on drugs during the taping of Salsa. Look at the date on the very first mugshot. The movie Salsa came out in 1988. (It could have been filmed in 1987 though, and just didn't arrive in theaters 'til '88)

  • What's really sad is the "transformation." I mean, looking at the "Rodney on heroine" pictures, you would never know it's him unless someone says it.

  • When I heard about Rodney's death...I was in shock...but I was even deeper in shock when I saw this video and how downhill he went. It is so sad and horrifying what drugs can do to you. He was so young....talented and good looking and had everything to live for. Why....I don't understand. What leads up to this? What a shame...and I am so sorry it happened to him. This is a wake up call to anyone who messes with drugs and what it can do. Rest in peace Rodney...God Bless You.

  • What a shame...He had his whole life ahead of him.....a nice looking kid with everything to live for and to die a horrible death so young because of Heroin. Why??? What lead up to this? I loved him in "Salsa"......he was so handsome!! Talented!! I hope he is at peace. God Bless You Rodney.

  • WOW I had no idea that he OD on Heroin!!

    Damn shame.

The photos are frightening and powerful!!

  • REALLY SAD

  • I still can't believe that...

  • It sadness me very much and left me in shock when i just found out that this sexy actor passed away 10yrs ago. I just read about his life and it i cannot believe that it was taken at a very young age because of drugs. May he always be remembered and rest in peace. I know i will always remember him

  • oh! i guess i will not search anymore in youtube today... 5 minutes ago i found out that laura Braningan has died in 2004, know i'ver read that Rodney has died almost 10 years....

  • RIP MY FRIEND

  • im extremely shocked i always wonder what happened to him! i loved him in salsa i thought he was gorgeous! wow unbelievable! why?

  • I own the outsiders tv series he was in. I really liked him. Too bad what drugs do to people. They need to play these type of commercials on tv again and in schools for kids to see the effects of drugs.

  • This commercial is no longer in our PSA rotation, but we encourage you to ask any website to embed this video. There is no wrong place to have a conversation about drugs. We all have a role to play. You too can help.

  • His "My Own Private Idaho" co-star River Phoenix suffered the same consequences. RIP River and Rodney. God bless you both.

  • Rodney was such a fantastic actor. Such a tragedy - and it seems young Hollywood hasn't learned a damn thing since.

  • Heroin - I can't believe we are still fighting these battles. Heroin is scary - we can see the evidence right here. Sadly, Meth is even more addictive and destructive.

  • RIP Rodney Harvey

  • It's real sad I watch him in the 80's. Me and my wife was watching salsa like 2 weeks ago. What a waist, good looking guy. To bad he could not be saved. RIP Rodney Michael Harvey

  • I just found out about his passing. I watch Rodney Harvey in the some 80's movies. Just the other day I was watching Salsa with my wife. Good looking guy feel real bad about his passing. RIP Rodney Harvey

  • I totally remember him from a bunch of old stuff and always thought he was gorgeous. This was the only place that even showed a pic so I had a hard time looking him up at first (they didn't say his character's name when I was watching.) What a tragic thing to happen to anyone, but he could have had a really great acting career had it not been for drugs. I'm glad someone posted this so his legacy can help other people and show what can happen to any of us.

  • jaja this is the most awesomeest drug commercial ever like they play in our movie theaters here in puerto rico and its spanish and it sounds way more dramatic to the point its actuallly funny and we just laugh and laugh but yeah honestly drugs arent good and u shouldnt do them and i know i dont soo god bless those who do and should stop

  • I strongly believe that From an early age Schools should concentrate more on the effects of what Heroin can do to you and not just saying its an illegal class A drug. Showing physically what will happen and the psychological effect will drastically decrease the amount of users

  • it is really sad, drugs are ruining this world.

  • je l'avais adoré dans "salsa" et "my own prive idaho"... c images sont poignantes...

  • OMG.. I knew his dead.. but.. that pictures.. :(. I have seen Salsa too.. =(

  • He was such a beautiful man.

  • First i saw this and thought it was a nother bum killed by his addiction but now i realise that even the best of us bet lost i'm sorry R.I.P Rodney. Learn from there mistakes!

  • I can't believe it ... and sad. I know when hear of an unnecessary loses, I feel that if I (or someone) was there for them ... maybe this could have bee prevented.

    Rodney will be missed....

  • we love u rodney!!!!

  • Drugs sure can make the handsomest man ugly. Drugs sure are not glamorous. R.I.P. Rodney.

  • R.I.P he will be missed forever

  • wow wow

  • i just cant believe it and i was like so in love now he's gone well i hope he made it to heaven

  • Such a tragic lost to this world - RIP Rodney you truely deserve to be happy now.

A lesson to us all - a talented young man who got lost along the way

  • Such a tragic lost of a life - RIP Rodney you truely deserve to be happy now

A lesson to us all - a great human being who got lost in this world

  • I'm so in shock. I have seen Salsa so many times around 1989-1990 then I would see this commercial on TV but had no idea it was that beautiful guy you played Ken. Such a waste. I'm feeling so sad.

  • He was good in "Salsa". His addictions ended a promising career and life.

  • rest in peace, beautiful gorgeus boy.

  • Yes it is sad. However, it also makes me angry. The guy had it all so it seems. Looks, talent, health, etc. and he turns to drugs, gets hooked and dies with a rope around his arm. Very sad, but also a shear waste. He was given so much yet turned to dope. Sad and disguesting.

  • Shocking photos.Towards the end of the clip,I didn't saw it was him.

  • WHY????? WHY??????

  • I worked closely with both Johnny Thunders and Sid Vicious, and yet I never get used to it, That was heartbreaking, but maybe, just maybe, will do some good. Bless you.

  • I remember the first time i saw him in my own private idaho i thought he was so perfect, its such a shame what can happen

  • This is so sad because as the pictures are shown, his appearance gets worse and worse. Meaning he only sank deeper into the drug world. Doesn't even look like the same Rodney in that professional acting headshot.

  • Sobering ad. I first heard about him when he was starring in the short-lived TV series "The Outsiders" back in 1990.

  • Rodney´s story is sad, shame to see young guy messing with heroin and ruining his career and life.

  • I still feel so sorry about what happened to Rodney Harvey, I wish things could have been different... Good add, hopefully it will help people.
