Reguardless of what he wrote in his mission statement, it didn't make any sense for SMI to fire Jerry. He still would have gone on to make the company millions of dollars and was a better agent than anyone there.
I think too many people mistake a good writers words as good acting. Tom is not horrible, he has years of experience under his belt. He chooses to be an actor. Something abstract really in the great scheme of things. Great writers make great actors. I don't want to downplay him too much though, I like him somewhat but he is a bit too far out there in his personal life.
I don't know what you people are talking about in these comments. Every time I've seen Tom Cruise with fans or outside a formal interview or something, he's been one of the most real, nicest and accommodating celebrities. People to stop hating just because he's linked to Scientology.

yeah i don't think i've ever found cruise's acting to suck. sometimes he gets a bit over the top, but he's a very good actor. however, that doesn't quite save his ass when it comes to being a dipshit otherwise. it's like if someone is a real asshole, but hey, they're a master at knot tying, is that somehow going to make up for their stupid behavior?

Actors are usually exactly like or the total opposite of who they play. And hey, fame does weird stuff to your temperament; it can often make you act irrationally, so everyone, try and give the guy a break?
@JamesKoutz013 well i liked him until i realized he was a batshit as crazy scientologist who belives 80 billion years ago there was a galactic federation, who were overrun by some evil aliens who froze everyone in ice cubes threw them into volcanoes and released their spirits on the earth thus forming sentient human life,.. but yeah, top gun was kind of a good movie, and Legend is still one of my favorite sci fi/fantasy movies :D
