  • My Mum died last year at 92 - I'm reading some of her diaries now. She mentions that herself & Dad sang this song together in 1944 - great to hear it.

  • such a beautiful voice and beautiful song....I heard it first almost 60 years ago, and Ive never forgotton it....brings huge emotions and even tears to the eyes of an older man like me....thanks for the posting..

  • This was my Gran and Granda's wedding song when they got married in August 1951 and it was played at my Granda's funeral in August 2010, RIP, we miss you beyond words. Although I'd never heard of this song before then, I now love it and it will always be special to me. I find it heartbreaking to listen to but at the same time, beautiful and I'm only 15. <3

  • beautiful thankyou

  • I love these WW2 songs. I recently performed Wish Me Luck could you please take a look ive placed it above. thank you

  • What an Icon ! They don't make them like her anymore. When she passes it will be a very sad day and the mould will be broken. She gave the country hope with her songs when it was at it's lowest ebb. This song brings a tear to the eye and a lump to the throat. This is from a time gone bye when a song was a song and it meant something. Beautiful lyrics, beautiful melody. beautiful voice.

  • We had a neighbour who lent me some old 78's. There was a variety but I remember the Vera Lynn ones well, she was backed by British soldiers singing the choruses never seem to hear those versions,

I used to borrow the records every so often till the neighbours the "Vaughans" moved away

  • @SuperShelbz1 Don't worry, I'm also sixteen and I've always loved the music of the 40's and 50's. But it wasn't until recently that I've been able to find it. ^_^

Kudos to a fellow old soul!

  • i love this song and all the others vera made during the war days i was a school boy then living in london it was a bad time but vera kept us going and the soldiers loved her her songs allways bring a tear to my eyes. when i think back to those years.

  • i luv this song, but it remind s me sooo much of all those soldiers who went away to fight for britian and the families who said goodbye and never saw them again, it reminds me of a husband and wife, and it's the night before he has to leave to go to war, and that's the wife's way of saying goodbye xxx

  • she one the war she is the reason for a victory

  • old....

    but precious :D

  • Greetings everyone,

If you want to visit my channel to hear me sing this way in a classic unique way like songs from Marilyn Monroe and more ! Thank You. x

  • @SuperShelbz1 Don't worry. I'm 40 and i've allways loved this genre.

  • @SuperShelbz1 No you just have taste. Nobody likes the sound of today.

  • Beautiful song and singing. Many thanks for posting it.

  • Despite my young age I'm 30 I must say this music is the most beautiful pity that no longer write such beautiful songs. If I had the opportunity I would like to visit in this period

  • terrific!

  • Dame Vera rocks!!

  • love this song

  • My Grandma used to sing this. It is so lovely.

  • My Dad loved this song by Dame Vera. I had it played at his funeral service.

  • The ''ww2 guys got these sentimental songs

    After that

""Sing a song of protest" stuff

None of which were any good

  • Thanx RR, great upload.

VL is new to me and truly amazing, only reason i actually found her is after i listened to this 10year old singing one of Vera's song, The White cliffs of Dover.

She did it amazingly, listen to hear, search on, 'Chloe Hickinbottom', remember, she is only 10 years old. And brought Vera Lynn's song back again, for people like myself, to discover these great songs.

  • Excellent tune and wonderfully song. The only thing that is outdated is quality of the recording. You don't have to see such music as somehow only belonging to our grandparents generation.

  • She is amazing, thank you for sharing this!

  • Vera Lynn is a national treasure.

  • This is actually better than the 1952 version because its style is very wartime, slower...superb!

  • WOW just HEAVENLY,

  • One of my favorite songs. How wonderful to hear Vera's rendition!

  • FOOKIN A BUBBA! As you would say in the USA!

  • Popularly knows as The Forces' Sweetheart, Vera Lynn is now 92 years old. Also know for her song We'll Meet Again. Thank you for uploading this very rare song of hers.

  • popularly KNOWN as........

  • popularly KNOWN..............Also KNOWN....

  • My Mum used to sing this

I miss you so much mum xxx

  • MY Mum, who is 5 weeks older than Dame Vera used to sing a lot of these songs when i was a kid, She is in a nursing home & what i miss most about her being there is being able to just pick up the phone & call her. she is mostly asleep cos of many mini strokes

  • Mum died last month ( Jan- 2010) & at her funeral we played "We'll meet again I miss my Mum , but she is a t peace. RIP Doris Byworth. Sheila in Australia

  • She is really great. I love her voice.

  • Last time I heard "Yours" was on an oldies radio show. She's great!

  • Am sitting here with tears rolling down my face, my Dad used to sing this to my Mum and he passed away. Thank you so much for posting this......

  • Fantastic. My mother sang this to my Father on their wedding day. I have always wanted to know the words.

  • my dad sang this to my darling mum

  • Listen to Placido Domingo singing this song.

As a Londoner during the war, with brothers in the Armythis lady boosted our morale as did Anne Shelton

  • Just a simply amazing voice, so sweet so free and easy and natural. I love this song. It makes me think of my feelings for Alan my fiance. Thank you for sharing this treasure with everyone.

  • lovely song what a great artiste

  • This song was the first I ever heard of Vera Lynn. I heard it on a documentary about London during the Blitz, and I couldn't rest until I found out who sang this (this was in California the days before the internet). She's one of the best singers of all times.

  • What an Icon ! They don't make them like her anymore. When she passes it will be a very sad day and the mould will be broken. She gave the country hope with her songs when it was at it's lowest ebb. This song brings a tear to the eye and a lump to the throat. • well written about this fine lady, an inspiration to the free world during world war two.

  • My Mother used to sing this song

    I miss her so much

    thank you for posing it

  • im sorry

  • This is definitely up there with "You Belong To My Heart" as a love song. Short on lyric but long on meaning.

  • I still have a large collection of Music on vinyl and Vere is in that collection as well, one day I will tranfer to CD. I would love to blast her voice right back at those Bass overpowering Boom Boom brats and their sad idea of Music filled with curse words. Vera's voice is Blessing to my Ears.

  • Beautiful Cuban song Quiereme Mucho, composed by Gonzalo Roig. Look for the version in Spanish sung by Libertad Lamarque and Joselito. The lovely Vera Lynn's rendition is nice too.

  • Thank you. This is back when music was music, especially with lyrics. Nothing like this stuff they have nowadays where they just repeat one word through the whole song. I have a 78 record album of Vera Lynn's with all the great songs she sang. Love hearing her sing.

  • i agree so much with yoru comments. i have 3 old records of hers, which My Mum & i both got put onto cds & i have just bought the rerelease of her cd Wwe'll meet again

  • thanks alot

  • Its so nice to hear the verse of a song. Another great singer from England was Anne Shelton.

  • A beautiful Cuban song, the English version of which will forever be associated with the beautiful Vera.

    Many, many, thanks for sharing.

  • See?! Now this is singing. Not today's crap that's out.

    Wow she's amazing.

  • I agree!!! I love her, she's a darling, the best singer in the world.

  • So true. Where are the Gus Kahns, Cole Porters, Jerome Kerns, Lorenze Harts??? Sinatra, Garland, Dean Martin?? Oh, how I miss the beautiful music makers.

  • I wasn't around during the war, but I find her songs very moving-and the way she fits into the story

  • Thank you for reminding us of Vera Lynn who's wonderful songs kept the home fires burning during the war. Lovely to hear her again.

  • Wonderful. This is truly music, not the strange noises you hear on the radio these days. Thanks for uploading this!

  • WONDERFUL! Vera Lynn has one of the absolute best voices EVER!

    THANK YOU!

  • Just wonderful, the best female vocalist of the twentieth century period.

  • Glad I could share it with you--not enough of this great music on the radio these days.

    Best,

    -RR

  • i love Vera Lynn, her voice is so beautiful and i listen to her every chance i get on sirus XM, the 40s channel haha

thanks for posting another wonderful Vera video!

  • @RReady555 haha, in NYC, there's NONE of this. Just shitty rap, pop, hispanic and 80s/90, mainstream music with the token jazz or classical channel.

  • This is wonderful. By the way, this is not a Spanish song but a Cuban song by one of Cuba's best and most prolific composers, Gonzalo Roig.

  • Appreciate that information--certainly one of the last century's best songs.

    Regards,

    -RR

  • happy anniversary lynn,

    yours

    hy

    Regards,

  • This is truly a class channel.. Fabulous stuff..!

  • Thanks, mate--much more Vera to come (though "Blue Birds--Dover" & "We'll Meet Again" are already well-represented... ;)

    Best regards,

    -RR

  • Never heard this lovely song before performed by legendary Vera Lynn. Thank you for sharing this gem.

  • Gladly, Daisy! ;)

She had the ideal timbre and delivery for this song--must have boosted morale considerably among soldiers listening on "far distant shores" in 1941.

  • Indeed an uplifting voice for tough times and young lads away from their dear ones.

Very clever channel you have. Looking forward to more stuff from you.

  • Thanks for your gracious remarks, Daisy. ;) More Vera on its way!

    -RR

  • Beaautiful melody and lyrics......so very romantic! RR You have a fabulous collection, thank you so much for sharing. I love this song.

  • The past century's greatest music came out of the Depression and the Wars...it has a power to console, uplift and inspire that is, simply, remarkable.

Glad to have you discover Vera, too, genia! ;)
