@PhuckHue2 Don't be stupid: this is from '93; in '93 Q-Tip didn't even know there was a kid in the D named Jay Dee. Tip is an amazing producer himself.
I feel honored to be alive during that era of hip hop. Not only alive but paying attention. I didn't absentmindedly stumble across this beautiful music 5 years after it's peak, I was right there nodding my hooded head, stomping my Timbos on top of it. Much like I've wished I could have been around to see Hendrix play live, we know we were lucky to be a part of this time. Sadly we watch rap regress to mediocre rhymes and material meaning but being there back then will ALWAYS make up for it.
I liked how they fused rock & jazz 2gether and make it work seemlesslylike a match made in heaven!!Thats wtf hip hop is about..Im glad i grew up in this era..I gave U lil niggaz the life ya'll got & living 2day and ya'll shittin it all away..But im still in the game and my mission is 2return hip hop back 2 its glory.
I saw that beats, rhymes and life of atcq and when i heard minnie riperton's "inside my love" i had to find that song. took me until yesterday to find it. thanks atcq cause i don't think i would of ever found it.
I bought this CD when it came out and I'm one of those listeners if I don't like the beat in the first 10 secs I'll switch to the next and will skip the song whenever it comes on. The initial mixture didn't sound like it fit together to me. I never heard a substantial amount of this song until I saw the Tribe Documentary. Feels like I missed out all these years.
@d18thletta Honestly the media damn near DEMANDS you put "Illmatic" at #1. Imma big time /long time Nasty Nas fan, but i'll take The Low End Theory and Midnight Marauders over it, cause i like Tribe more and they was more consistent. I still think Nas is the greatest MC ever.....even tho Rakim is another one that you're not allowed to put anyone over..Hip Hop(good/real hip hop) is all about your taste. People can debate all day.....
When Q-Tip explains how he was inspired to make this song, and how in the movie Beats, Rhymes & Life...it actually brought a tear to my eye, idk why, it was just so beautiful how they mixed it w/ it's original sample.
Then later in the movie, Busta Rhymes is talking to them and admits he started crying in the car one night listening to this in Las Vegas.
@thecommission19 omg me too!!! i was trying to catch the song but it went off too quick, i swear watching beats, rhymes and life made my damn life, reminded me of why im such a die hard quest fan and to believe i was only 3 when this came out lol
@africanqueen297 the song is god lives through, i was sooooo happy when i found the song lol. n that movie is amazing!!!!! great documentary on atcq. by far my favorite rap group
I just took a hit off my friends Vaporizer...it was awesome krippy bud. I'm stoned as fuck. I dimmed the lights, and put this shit on....The true definition of happiness
ATCQ is the undisputed pinnacle of hip-hop! this was from back when you didn't need to have your face covered in tattoos or fifty chains around your neck. now it's just about being in clubs and how much weed you've smoked. tribe have the best beats for blazin'.
How I love strolling arround with this cassette. Sun shining, strange leaps, slo mo walking, like a complete alien in an urban setting :).I wasn't steet but I did feel clever :)
There's no need for saying anything bad about other rappers. everyone knows this is the essence. just enjoy the music and people will follow eventually.
I heard that Minnie Riperton joint when I was young somewhere and found it years later. Great cut in it's own right...but I always felt that mellow soulful keyboard bridge towards the end was the highlight. Fast forward...years later when I got into hip hop I came across THIS joint and it felt like all was right in the world ahahah
The vast majority of Hip-Hop nowadays lacks Soul. Jazzy Hip-Hop is always the best that's what makes The Tribe, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, De La Soul, Dred Scott, The Roots, Mainsource, Brand Nubian, early Nas, Slum Village, J Dilla, Little Brother, Foreign Exchange, Talib Kweli, early Mos Def, early Common, People Under The Stairs, J Live etc so good.
