This is the laptop I have. It doesn't get hot anymore because I got most of the dust out with a vacuum cleaner (just sucking it through the vents), but the fan still rattles like at truck. I can't try this, though. I'd just end up breaking my computer. But holy fucking crap, why make the fan so hard to access? It makes no sense!
I can not tell you what to do, it could be dust and needs a cleaning or you have to many programs running. I herd that it is good to do a factory back up reformat once a year. Move all data to second hard drive and write down programs u need to reinstall. When you get all set up again some will let you save a back up so save a back up after u put your programs in save time next time.
How do I disconnect the hard drive from the cable? Do I pull at the connection at the hard drive? It seems like it could disconnect there but I don't want to break anything.
I HAVE MY 3RD LAPTOP FROM HP, ALL OF THEM HAVE THIS SHIT PROBLEM. ALL BURNED DOWN EITHER THE MOTHERBOARD WAS FRIED, OR THE FAN COULDNT HANDLE THE HEAT ANYMORE AND THE WHOLE THING MELTED DUE TO OVERHEAT.
THERE ARE ALSO HP SERVICES RUNNING THAT MAKE THE PROCESSOR PEAK ALL THE TIME. ITS CRAP! I THINK I DESERVE AT LEAST 1 FREE LAPTOP FROM HP.
IF HP THINKS ABOUT NEXT MODEL: MAKE A EASY ACCESS HOLE TO THE FAN FROM OUTSIDE!!! SO NORMAL USERS CAN CLEAN IT!!!
Hi, I got it apart as far as you went but I want to replace the fan, I found a company in the UK that sells them although I;m in US what is keeping it in? haaha I can't see whats holding it is the bottom black plastic cover suppose to come off too? I do have the HP DV7-3160 US
hey man how you take out the screen, the side with one big and short wire is sticking to the motherboard. i tried to lift up or pull from the side but doesnt seem to be useful, i didnt force it tho.
The two wires under the sticker In my video? I think it was a pull plug all wires and ribbons connection were pull wisp rocking. There might be a lock clip that with a little flat screwdriver to lift up then pull.
what kind of engineering requires to take off the screws for cleaning "just" a fan ?? and regarding that annoying overheating problem...im never buying an hp laptop anymore like millions of victims
I blow It out with compressed air often Just took it apart the second time but do not need to take it all apart like I did in video. 30 min and back together just to check if any dust build up on motherboard. This is still a great lap top, does run a little hot when I work it hard but so do woman.
Hi Great Video, Could you tell me or anyone please, i seem to have a problem with my HP Dv6T laptop, first of all the main problem is that the fan seems to be running quite loudly but when i put my hand near the vent i can feel air coming out so i dont think its cleaning issue, #however as soon as i change power schemes from say Power Saver to HP Recommended the fan starts immideatley and keeps running and immediately as soon as i switch back it goes to normal.Any solutions appreciated.thank

I just did this and it took me about 4.5 hours. I had to do some troubleshooting with the LCD screen because it was flickering the first time I booted it up. The significance is huge, though. I had about a 20 degrees Celsius drop from idle. 10 degrees Celsius drop during Flash video playback (youtube and stuff). Here's a screenshot: cl. ly/2J2L052x042n3u3L0t0G/ Before_and_after .png
@cxrodformrx You do not have to Take the whole lap top apart to get to the fan I just wanted to check it out. The lap top Is still working vary good. forget MAC. I using a i Mac G5 2.0 and 1.5 mem and my little amd 3200 2.0 1.2 mem, ran circles around this i Mac. But I wanted more out of that amd and I killed it over clocking it at 2.4 steady and peek at 8.0. poor thing. Pulse I can not go or do half as much with the Mac in less I want to pay big bucks.
@tegf4 Mine worked well and then one day it just started over heating. Then I noticed the fan wasn't spinning so I am going to have to take this apart and put a new fan in it. Other than the fan itself I would say this computer has been great.
The computer voice distracts from the video. I think the video is good, but with that voice, it's very hard to follow and understand. Maybe you don't like your own voice or you were just being creative, but I think your voice would improve the video substantially.
this is the exactly the PC that I have and the FAN sounds like a cow flying in a helicopter, Is there any other easyer way to remove the bottem cover to get to the fan?
@tegf4 i've got hp pavilion dv7 and the back cover looks completly different, like here: insidemylaptop. (DOT) com/disassemble-hp-pavilion-dv7-notebook/
@kit385 I can not help in less i looking at it. Is the power switch working, check by a meter. battery or power cord good, is there any kinda of power.. it is to much with out looking at it, was it working fine before you cleaned and what and how you clean it.
@tegf4 the power is on, the light is on, but the screen is black, hard drive not respone. i went to the shop and let the guy checked it, he said my motherbroad is dead. i followed your video and clean the dust with compressed air, yes, is working before i clean it.
@kit385 Dam, any ideas of why? that does not sound right. I was kind of ruff with mine taking it apart. could a wire be connect back wards. the black and white on the back at 0:55 go on right? you blow out the ram slot. if any wires or ram not in tight when it starts could mess thing up. a desk top did that to me. them are good laptops from what i have.

I have a Pavilion 2130ev , Windows 7-64bit. I have it for over 9 months. In the last month I am experiencing overheating problems, especially when playing games. CPU's temperature goes up to 194F (90 Kelsius). What can I do??

thx Teg for that tutorial...i started to take apart my dv7-1130us hp pavilion laptop but had to stop becuz i didnt know how to get to the fan...with this vid now in my head i'll give it another shot..wish me luck..thx again

I did not have over heating playing games, tune your video card down some that with help and tune the game video to a smaller screen size.
I have generals zero hour and that gets lag with my desk top amd 64 3200xp, 9250 video but the dv7 has no problems and a better video just tune it to performance .

Amd would be put together different. Amd are a faster processor and runs hotter my desk top as in other commit has 6 fans, power supply, processor, video, north bridge, one in chaise and one out. it is over clocked @ 2.45 running spy bot in less then 20 min peeks at 8.0 temp 56c and kick the shit out of a Pentium 4 2.2 and a 2.4. which takes 45 - 60 min to run spy bot.
@tegf4 Running windows 7 Ultimate x64 AMDX2 QL 64 2.10Ghz 3.0 GB RAM 512 MB ATI Radeon Extended to use 1.7GB on video memory HDMI output slot and all that good stuff... just about 1 year old... DV71210ed
That sound awesome, how much mem does the 7 op sys use, on my intel centrina 2 just the op sys is 2.2 g out of 4g of ram with vista, i think that a bit much. my xp on desk top only uses 300 megs of ram.
I prefer amd over any other tho. but this it the first duel for me and I like it so far even with the 2 g of ram being used it out perform my desk top by far, and I con only imagine the performance a duel amd or the quad has must be awesome.
@tegf4 uhm well if u have 3.0 GB of RAM u should be set to install windows 7 ultimate x64... thats all i know i used to run vista and it was constantly using 47% of RAM just to keep it running... now it uses no more than 35% when idle... i guess thats pretty nice... all for costprice(A) never had any issues except for now with the overheating... but thats out of the way with some canned air and a cheap ass cooler for only 6,95... made for a 15" but works great on a 17" one...
