whenever i stumble on a shadow gallery song on youtube i'm always like *damn it, i must buy their cds, they're one of the best bands I've ever heard of*
but then i go to the store where i buy most of my cds and see a dream theater or opeth or pain of salvation or porcupine tree or tool or (etc.) cd i dont have yet, and since they dont have anything by sg i forget buying their stuff. >.<
it really sucks that such a brilliant band is so unpopular!
@luckyluke193 It's a bitch alright. After Mike's death, they started touring and gaining more exposure so they are gradually gaining more fans. Hopefully someday we'll stumble across their albums in stores instead of having to order online.
its a shame that we actually have to search for this music. Why cant more people have a good taste in music... I am not hating on other genres...but i dont think its fair that things like Pop,hip hop,rap punk rock etc should get so much air time when there is obviously great music such as this, dream theater, symphony X etc. They aren't even too hardout like Lamb of God, Opeth, CoB etc, so society can accept this music! i Dont understand the music industry...yet, but just a few more years...
@SASPython Not all of Opeth's stuff is "hardout". On the entire Damnation album, there isn't a single note played in a death metal style, its pure progressive rock.
However, it seems like anything that is not in 4/4 and has actual people playing actual instruments is not considered "radio-friendly" these days.
The music industry doesnt care about music, its just about the money. They can make stupid people who just like getting attention sing some crap and make millions out of it.
@luckyluke193 yeah im familiar that they got alot of acoustic songs and some not so aggresive songs i was just talking in general, i havnt heard to much of Opeth yet. and yeah you are right. I showed some of my friends who listen to lesser forms of music 'Under A Glass Moon','Strange Dejavu' & 'Honor Thy Father' and they said that they enjoyed it i even totally converted one of em to metal! he barely listens to the other stuff now its great. Well if they dont listen to this stuff, its their loss
@SASPython smart people would realise the industry is taking most of the money, so the major labels wont let them get too powerful.
most smart people also get bored by drum machines looping the same beat for 3 minutes, and prefer stuff like prog rock or metal, or other less mainstream genres.
but the music industry is in a bubble that will soon explode, i hope. crappy "talent" show (where no talented person will ever win) and piracy will break the monster's neck.
Omg... I can see I'm a beginner in the world of music.. Been listening to Dream Theater and Symphony X for a while, but never considered that there are even more amazing bands in the world! I must say I have a huge number of more cd's to get!!!!
i can honestly say there has not been another prog CD of this caliber since 2005 and i can't believe we are at 5 years since this came out!! when i first heard this i was completely amazed...and don't forget it came out two weeks after DTs Octovarium which was great CD in its own right but did not compare to this! Queensryche failed miserably with a "sequel" to Operation Mindcrime and Shadow Gallery produced a masterpiece BETTER than the great "Tyranny" CD!
Haha, yeah especially on the third track "pain". I was lucky enough to attend the release party, and Gary even said himself that they were looking for someone who sounds like Tate!
Every Tuesday the band releases a new song on their myspace . The trailers for the new cd sound very strong and there is a major buzz so lets keep it goin ! digital ghosts is gonna be huge
Dude...the new album is already on the way! "Digital Ghosts" is the name It's coming out November 3rd in the states and I think October 26th everywhere else. GET EXCITED. They have a new amazing singer and a couple guest apperance as well. I heard bits of the new album already...haha...they're gonna surprise the heck out of everyone by creating another masterpiece
Shadow Gallery is the kind of band that writes music for the sake of it! From the very beginning, back in 1992, they started to compose songs destined to reach for the heart of those willing to listen.. Rain is just one of the amazing songs that make ROOM V a masterpiece. And DIGITAL GHOSTS is just doomed to be another step on a stairway to heaven, a due tribute to Mike Baker's memory, who passed away last october and who'll simply live on in thru his music, forevermore
I just got this album. And I really hate to say this because I'm a huge Prog fan, but this has to be one of the most boring albums I have gotten in a very long time. It did have some decent tracks like The Andromeda Strain, and Room V, but it to many Instrumentals that were very lackluster.
A masterpiece of melodic, prog metal...they may not have the production of a Dream Theater, but they sure have chops that can match them note for note...one of my favorite songs of one of my favorite bands...being a musician for many years, finding melodies that aren't tired or already taken gets harder and harder...this is why prog metal shines; most prog metal musicians are so well-trained they have a deeper well from which to pull great melody
Who knows why sucking bands like Tokio Hotel have milions and milions of fan in Europe, while bands like SG that plays very well has only some milions of fan in the world?
I wonder the same, there are excellent bands like EPICA, AFTER FOREVER, DECADENCE and only few people know them, people just like as you say sucking bands such as Tokio Hotel and The Rasmus, they are to pieces of shit in comparison to other bands.
Duno i think this bands a bit 'slow' if you get me, like dream theater for instance has fast riffs and solos and i think alot of people are interested in instrumentals right now.. but i still love this band
yeh yeh, i getcha... i actually like energetic metal bands... like Heavenly, their music TRULY is heavenly, and their music style is very different and unique... try them out
not as technical as dream theater? you probably have not heard a song like chased yet i supposse ah ah ah. seriously shadow gallery probably have some of the most insane instrumental songs.
I love Shadow gallery! My brother went to Germany and got me the CD of Carved in Stone a long time ago, and I have listened to it more than a lot of people I bet. Listen to in too.

@TheOvermaster i've only found pt's newer albums (since in absentia) and only one pos album (road salt one).
however i was quite surprised to find transatlantic live in europe dvd (i haven't bought it yet though)
what's even more puzzling to me is that the only opeth cd's they sell are blackwater park, deliverance and damnation.
i have no idea how they choose which cd's to sell, but i doubt there's any logical reasoning going on ;)
