  • There is a lot more of Newman's Bach at bach-newman period com

  • The sound (disposition) you've chosen for this piece is totally inappropriate. It would be difficult to imagine a more inappropriate sound for a joyful dance like this piece. A soft, round, luminous, and light sound is what this piece needs.

Your finger and pedal technique, however, is outstanding. Just change the disposition to something appropriate and everything will be fine.

  • @KhagarBalugrak I didn't realize that Bach specified the registrations for this piece.

  • @PJMurray730, Bach never specifies anything...on second thought, this disposition isn't THAT bad, but it could be better. Certainly a more luminous sound would be good. I would like to hear a lighter, rounder sound, since this is a jig and not something grand and powerful like, say, BWV 540.

  • @KhagarBalugrak I am going to use the argument of Mr Jeremy Clarkson here.... "POWEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" meaning more stops out gives it a sense of power and thus makes it better in my mind. However it is dance esque... PS:How many dance occasions did Bach write for when composing for organs in churches

    ................................. (I thought so)

  • @hatstalker as they say he "pulled out all the stops"

  • Bravo, Professor.Newman.

  • I agree, but if Tony wants to add the 16' in the manuals, I can't complain, since I've enjoyed hearing his playing since I got his first recording on pedal harpsichord and organ in 1968. He does many idiosyncratic things, but he is a musician who will not be easily replaced, since he is a composer as well as a performer on several instruments.

  • Dear Robertgift, If you get a chance, would you make a video of your playing of this piece? It would be great to both see how it should be photographed and hear how it should sound.

  • 16' in the manuals does not belong. Hopping between manuals, the rhythmic delays are unpleasant. We see the pedal pistons but HARDLY HIS PEDAL PLAYING! What missed opportunities. Video does not always match the music. Poorest video of the Gigue I have seen.

Apparently theditor does not know that some notes are actually played with one's feet. But many views of Anthony looking totally bored. Tempo was excellent! Liked his occasional ornaments. Playing was skilled but mundane.

  • I'll take Virgil Fox's word over Bach any day compared to this.

  • Really great parformance of a great piece. What kind of organ is this?
