@thefamilynerd09 they were bred to hunt /work badgers and foxes, id say they might be stretched to take out a coyote, they are fearless and might die trying, they are perfect for rats, rabbits, mice, snakes and obviously opossums. The parsons JRT has longer legs and therefore faster and would be betterfor running down squirrels and rabbits the short legged JRT might be better at ratting .. But it depends upon the dog. I own a Parsons JRT, the dog is great with people but horrid with animals.

JRT, Patterdales, Jadgs, Borders, Fells, and some others are still bred for their original purpose. I own a Patterdale, and his favorite thing in the world is to catch a groundhog or opossum.

my dog killed 3 opossums or so we thought so because last night we found him messing with one and we threw it behind my yard with a shovel and when it landed we seen it run away it was acting dead the whole time!

@TRUEFOOTAGE well ...she's killed about 8 and she's still alive!!! not even a scratch on her!!! Your dog would probably come near getting hurt fighting a possum than my would. If you knew anything about JRT's you would already know this. They were bread to hunt fox, which is way more aggressive and larger than a possum. They are also EXTREMELY quick. I have saw her kill a rattlesnake in five seconds from shaking it. Also, there is no way i could've stopped her, she jumps on ne thing that moves!

@TRUEFOOTAGE This is what terriers are bred for. That purpose is controlling vermin and pest. Most terriers have had been bred out of that instinct, and more for show. JRT, Patterdales, Jadgs, Borders, Fells, and some others are still bred for their original purpose. I own a Patterdale, and his favorite thing in the world is to catch a groundhog or opossum.

My little dachshund attacked one, and had it almost dead, but I was told I had to stop him by my sister -.- The opposum couldn't even move. My dog had it by the neck, and was crushing its head against the concrete. This opposum looked like it was bigger than him.
