J Elect hands down! If I didn't understand what he was talking about then I would probably say J. Cole. Cole is nice but Jay used Yugio in his rap and made it sound hard. When you on that level it's easy to go over simple minded peoples heads.

Some people think its smart to support the older artist. thats why some people say Eazy-E is one of the best ever and don't even recognize Nas. Pay respect but be reasonable. J.Coles the best
jay electronica is a decade older then cole that alone should be taken into consideration that you guys are finding it hard ti to see whose better. when a 25 yr old is being compared to a 35 yr old then the 25 yr old obviously more talented
Jay Electronica is on another level lyrically! Only Nas in my opinion (who Jay elect is greatly influenced by) is better lyrically. With that said, J. Cole is dope lyrically also but a better song maker as far as structure and paying attention to detail and all that. He's a producer in addition to being a rapper so he's ahead of Jay in that regard! So I think you have to be a little more specific when you ask this question bc they are both dope for different reasons.

"Queens Get The Money" was pretty bare in terms of instruments, samples, structure etc. It was basically one big loop. J.Cole's sound is (at least at this point) a little more defined. So I would still have to give Cole the edge production wise. That's not to say that Jay Elect won't get better with his production. Jay Elect is hands down better lyrically tho.

I believe they are part of the renaissance movement that's going on in Hip Hop. Jay Electronica's style is more complex, deeper and he can be abstract. He's real creative with his approach too. While J. Cole's style is more energetic, very witty and clever. Just raw and he has a lot of emotion in his music. I guess it comes down to which MC's you prefer the most.
