  • i really actually like this band. not so much their views (although, they really are interesting in a way), their style is unique, something that isnt seen especially in metal today.

on top of that, they are clearly technically skilled and do have a good grasp of music theory.

  • Not another post band, show mercy you posers ........ black metal is about black feelings, black atmosphere and dark lyrics, this is just a post - math - trendy band wannabe metal

  • People are such babies, it's rediculous.

  • is this how he eats chocolate cake? 6:52

  • press repeatedly 6 to see him wanking hard

  • KRALICE!!!!

  • 8/10 is way too high for an album like this.

  • @platinumdynamite why? the music is great. if you're just going to bitch and moan about the ideas behind this band, then you're not paying attention to the right things.

  • A lot of people hate Hunter Hunt-Hendrix. All i know is that the music on this album is fantastic.

  • Complaining about how some guy in a metal band is dressed.. that's definitely HARD CORE dude!! Hahaha. Go write for Star Magazine.

  • This album is awful.

  • Fuck all the haters.

  • Looking at a lot of these coments I think some hipsters and BM fans alike need to get off their high horses a bit. Critique the music for itself, don't base your opinion on anything other than the sound of the record. I enjoy some music by Burzum and Mayhem (who are oft considered "trve" or whatever) but also I like Wolves in the Throne Room and Liturgy. The moment we judge music by what the performers look like we might as well be watching American Idol. Good review btw Anthony

  • @dannycheesums Amen brother.

  • Dude wtf, I remember the review you did of Burzum's 'Fallen' and now you're doing this shitty Liturgy band!? :o These guys are hipsters to the max, and they don't get what black metal is about! And just the fact that he had to write a manifesto shows right there what a pine-sniffing-hipster he is! Fuck Liturgy!

  • @MetalManiac13666

You know there's this little element called the MUSIC.

I agree their image and ideology is lame. They don't get Black Metal even in the slightest, and HHH is... well you know.

But in the end, what matters is the music.

  • @MetalManiac13666 people need to shut the fuck up about "what black metal is about." people shouldnt give a shit what its about, just make some good fucking music instead of worrying what true black metal sounds like.

  • @thychaos I probably would hate it less had I not seen any of the interviews with this band lol

  • @MetalManiac13666 Shh get over it man you'll be right aye! You don't have to like it if ya don't wanna.

  • who gives a fuck this band kicks ass great tunes

  • its a drum machine

  • again, the fucking singer ruins it

  • @Rabbitthateats His vocals are all the same but I still think hes pretty good

  • This guy gives a better rating to a new wave, Hipster, pretentious BM band than he does to the BM legend Burzum.

  • @drumsistkrieg1349 yeah so?

  • @forerunner06 It goes to show that he only listens to black metal to give it ratings. He probably doesn't enjoy any of the old classics but gives these bands a listen to so he can do a review. It's just a way to get views and expose himself to a larger audience. Nothing is really wrong with it, I just find it funny that he is praising Liturgy as an amazing black metal act. We all know that's wrong.

  • @drumsistkrieg1349 I suggest you start your own 'Real kvlt BM' channel. No, "we all" don't enjoy Burzum or Mayhem.

  • @forerunner06 If you're a fan of Black metal and you don't listen to Mayhem or burzum you're a fucking tool.

  • @drumsistkrieg1349 Oh really? I was under the assumption that its all opinion based? Mayhem is overrated anyways. Im glad dead and euronymous are burning in hell

  • @oaklandrmoss18 Oh no! You've hurt me with your christian idea of hell! Oh no!

Watch out guys, we're dealing with a badass over here.

  • @drumsistkrieg1349 You know what really hurts? Getting stabbed 23 times.

  • @oaklandrmoss18 IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD

  • @drumsistkrieg1349 AND THE FRONT ; )

  • @drumsistkrieg1349 Oh no, I'm not approved by some BM-kid on the net. Boo-hoo...

  • @forerunner06 Just means you're not trve kvlt.

  • @drumsistkrieg1349 Okay, just F.Y.I. when you start throwing "trve kvlt" around, you are most likely a poser!

  • @MetalManiac13666 Poseur?? What is poseaur?

  • yawn...

  • People often ask, "What makes music good?"

My answer is "When it makes you feel like this: 6:53."

  • I heard this album before I knew about the controversy, and I was underwhelmed. I just didn't get a good feel for the atmosphere here; it felt kind of cold and clinical. The problem with the manifesto is that, to me, it sounds like Hunter doesn't think his music speaks for itself, so he has to explain it in another medium. I listen to stuff like Enslaved or Carpathian Forest, and I get what they're going for. Can't say the same for Liturgy.

  • Here's a list for you, Fantano. All of these bands are REAL metal bands, technically amazing and as creative as you'll find: Lykathea Aflame, !T.O.O.H.!, Peste Noire, Windham Hell, Acerbus, Vektor, Demilich, Japanische Kampfhorspiele. I could go on and on. All REAL metal, all creative and interesting in its own right, all beloved by metal fans, and none smack of pretentiousness or hipsterism. Liturgy is just a meandering, postmodern mess. They look like queers and their music is pointless.

  • Do you get ALL your music from /mu/?

  • this is gay as fuck

  • Perhaps more important questions for this album & Renihilation: does Hunt-Hendrix's thesis stand? Does Liturgy succeed in fulfilling the aims of their manifesto? As I read it his main argument is that BM exhausted itself in the early '90s. Darkthrone, Mayhem, Burzum, etc. did all one could with BM. He has dressed his argument in Modernist rhetoric (references to Benjamin & Greenberg) to say that BM has only wallowed since '94 & a clean break is needed to overcome the genre's limits. Is this it?

  • You should review Taake's "Noregs Vaapen". Black metal that's expanding the genre's sound with absolute brilliance.

Also check out Old Silver Key's "Tales Of Wanderings". Lots of people are lukewarm about it, but I think it rules. Drudkh + Alcest = "Eargasm"

  • You're quite similar to Troy from Community, sometimes.

  • I could've just sworn this album just sounded like incoherent dogshit. They are about as black metal as Maroon 5.

  • there is nothing inherently wrong about Liturgy's attempt to take a stance against nordic black metal. do not forget that second wave black metal was self defined as a revolt against death metal. my feeling is that Liturgy's attempt is doomed because it is rooted too much in theory and criticism, which lacks the potency of aesthetics and action. with the second wave we had church burnings, murders, rumors of evil rituals. HHH is just some guy in a plaid shirt who likes the sound of his own voice

  • @sunioj700 id take the murderers and church burners over this moron.

  • You're a tool.

  • Brooklyn is full to the brim with this hipster shit.

  • I just can't get into this album. =(

  • I like how sophisticated you sound!! xDDD \m/ \m/

  • Este album es un poco dificil de escuchar, es un poco desesperante los gritos, la musica es muy buena, interesante pero esos gritos desorientan un chingo, no puedo seguirle el camino XD

  • This is one of the few black metal albums I've ever felt good while listening to it. It rocks and it makes me happy. The only other black metal band to do that is Melechesh, and that's for purely different reasons (they just kick too much ass).

  • The bigger question is "Who is this writing for?" and I think a fine answer is "anyone interested!" I think setting out to prove something is perhaps a mistake, and maybe one that our bold writer has made! But I don't think the concepts he's really trying to express, the most important being contrast, are entirely incorrect. They're just a bit unscientific, and I think should be approached in that way. If they resonate with you: Great! If not: No bother, they're not meant to be taken wholesale.

  • more in common with collaborative, optimistic kinds of music, like playing with other people, versus more introverted and perhaps exclusive kinds of creating, like songs that are contributed by one songwriter. Liturgy's songs are webs of influence and input, and by that nature, I think they are convoluted, and they become difficult to for a spectator to understand and, even harder to describe.

So I quite like his pieces of writing. I think they're a gentle insight on how his band interacts.

  • I wanted to make a comment here, finally having listened to this record.

As someone who often dislikes self conscious items and convoluted prose, I recognize that many people, when framing their ideas for other people, must rely on analogies, because their ideas exist to convey a feeling they aren't quite able to describe with the words they have available to them.

That said, I think this record is very much unlike black metal records. I think this is a ever-shifting kind of record, that has

  • 2:45 what the fuck????

  • I have determined that Liturgy is not really as bad as some believe they are. But they're really not that great either. They just sound like a mediocre less intense, more boring Krallice.

Nothing new, nothing special. Its been done, and has been done better.

  • I love the music part I just dont like the vocal for me it just doesnt work. What I would love is if the lead singer of Killswitch (yes I know...) were to actually sing and scream over the instruments

  • This album isnt harsh or heavy, the only redeeming quality is the drumming. Id rather listen to Blut aus Nord 777 Sect(s) or even Burzum's Fallen.

  • poofter band

  • @theneedledrop

I got the exact same feeling as you about the chord progressions. So great.

  • this fucking band sucks so fucking much. go throw yourselves under a fucking bus!!!!! FUCK!!!

  • @CaliThrasher86 we would be much better off as a society if you did that instead you uneducated waste of space

  • so like lirutgy play like so like great like... um they are so smart like uhhh we will like play like this like thing like live.

they like talk like this so so so like uhh they are fucking annoying. but the music is okay. intention does matterbut it isnt everything. perfect example scremo/emotive hardcore from the 90s was made from passion, they lived through the music and you can feel it. thats the diffrence between the newer SCREAMO/scene) genre. i dont feel any passion from that sound.

  • Due to the drumming description I might just get interested in this. The frontman turned me off and so did the general music and its feel.

Where might the drummer stand? At who's level? Above who's level? Who does he sound like?

  • Nyktalgia - cold void

  • FUCK LITURGY!

just another money making, fame seeking rip off of other already existing great bands.

  • a combination of black metal and math-rock. fair call. a better label then saying hipster shit blaaah blaaaarghhh.hate the idea of liturgy but agree with the drumming

  • I really really wish hipsters never existed.

  • @QAeternus

Oh come on, hipsters aren't THAT bad...

  • @WolfieboyMachi yes they are.

  • @helloasswipes

    Why?

  • @WolfieboyMachi they take great awesome things from the 60's, 70's and 80's and just rape them into modern day pop culture icons. They bring back all the horrible things about those eras and they are single handedly the worst smuggy douchebags destroying art and music with their "college know it all" attitude. Also many Hipsters used to be scene kids too in the early 2000's or the high school days who now claim to have become "mature" and shit just because they are college freshman . so yeah...

  • @helloasswipes You comment on every Liturgy video almost everyday. You have no life.

  • @noneofyoucanspell not really, just on the comments I FIND LULZY. on any video. anyways whats it to ya. its a free country asshole. this isnt fuckin China or Tunisia.

  • @helloasswipes I love you.

  • @top comments

i was at a bbq the other night when metal was brought up. i was like "i've been listening to metal lately. which is weird for me cuz i'm an old punk and metal was always a bunch of cornballs. but nowadays you can actually have a conversation with a metal head."

  • Speaking of swells, you should review the new Primordial album, " Redemption at the Puritan's Hand"

  • Art Blakey rulez

  • @MrSplatterPlatter

I think it was probably Enslaved who first started exploring this post-BM sound, though I could be wrong. Ulver?

  • @stefander777

I agree, you should do a review of the new Shining album, Anthony.

    @MrSplatterPlatter

I never said that, I just think they do this kind of BM better.

  • Lol...all this "hipster" name calling here is soso boring and mindless...good strong people with a healthy self esteem simply don´t do that ... so grow up !

  • This is the only black metal band I like.

  • Actually you really do need to review the new Morbid Angel Ant. It's one of the biggest metal albums of the year, whether or not it was shit.

  • Check out his review of the new Morbid Angel: /watch?v=vfNGaJlk8q4

  • Anthony, please do a review of Shining - VII: Född förlorare, i know that you like more ambitious black metal music so when you will have time, please check it out

  • Anthony do you pay for the music you review

  • @ptc5010

Exactly, man. There are some decent ideas going on, but the pretension going on in the delivery just makes this unlistenable for me.

Also, the vocals suck, this would have been a much better record if this were instrumental.

  • I can't believe this has been so praised. Liturgy's new album is some of the worst drivel I have heard in awhile. This band is not the first band to have this sound, nor are they the best example.

    Krallice owns this record.

  • @misanthropyeternal because Krallice is definitely the first band to have this sound.

  • sing more anco in your reviews

  • How dare he write something about the music his band makes! For shame.

  • i feel the band plays well together? ok??? and if this is the best "modern metal" album you have heard than you need to listen to other metal. I am a fan of black metal but this shit is not black metal

  • I appreciate the fact that you didn't involve yourself with the pointless quibbling about genre labels and focused on the music itself. Thanks.

  • Blast beats!?!!! Hunter just took a rage-shit wherever he is in the world. BURST BEAT! lol

  • It's an awesome album except for Helix Skull, Glass Earth and Harmonia which are all fucking terrible.

  • the vocalist of the band really needs to shut the fuck up about his pishy views, but I really enjoyed this record. Screw the tr00 kvltists.

  • They're performing on Friday & Saturday in Wicker Park, Chicago

  • I'm with you on the uplifting, triumphant feeling of the chord progressions. Only a handful of bands can give me that feeling if invigoration and literally take my breath away: Krallice, Castevet, Blut Aus Nord (MV II), Deathspell Omega. Despite the negativity around Hunter and this band, they do have a special and unique sound that I hope they continue to develop. And yes, that drummer is a BEAST!

  • why did he seeming mis-pronounce both of their album titles?

  • DIE YOU HIPSTER FAGGOTS

  • @Primordialfan1 lol you suck at trolling

  • @BlackMetalWorld

Yeah because I must be ''trolling'' if I hate such hipster bullshit.

  • @Primordialfan1 you dont know wha a hipster is, Hipster is a jazz thing and the term is so fucking overused nowadays that it makes me puke

  • @BlackMetalWorld

A fucking hipster would say that.

  • @Primordialfan1 and a fucking twat would say that

  • @BlackMetalWorld

And of course a hipster would get pissy at being called a fucking hipster.

    Fuck off. hipster.

  • @Primordialfan1 yeah because I could get ragingly angry over some text on the internet who nobody gives a fuck about :D

  • @BlackMetalWorld

    Yeah. You're still here.

    Stupid hipster.

  • @Primordialfan1 you amuse me, especially becuase you think it makes you somesort of elitist calling others hipsters, funny thing is that fenriz would wipe the floor with your ass and that goes for every artist with a brain in his head

  • @BlackMetalWorld

LOL and the hipster ignores the bitchslap he's been given and tries to act like a pretentious pseudo-intellectual.

    So typical of faggot hipsters.

  • @Primordialfan1 common amuse me youre boring as hell, invent something new

  • @BlackMetalWorld

Wanting to be abused is a little creepy.

Off you go you stupid hipster.

  • @Primordialfan1 abused? what the hell kind of stuff are you taking? How old are you? 12? You probably think you are so really cool with that bobby lashley fag, and now you even fail to be entertaining, how lame is that?

  • @BlackMetalWorld

I love the fact that a pretentious hipster faggot is whining at me instead of fucking off like normal person would.

    It makes me LOL.

  • @Primordialfan1 I trolling a troll aka cannibal trolling :)

  • @Primordialfan1 I don't want to partake in this retarded argument, but why don't you just fuck off? Seems to me like you're just as "hipster" as the other guy... At least use your brain when you troll.

  • @raddikkal

    Get fucked you hipster fuckwit.

Get your projection disorder fixed while you're at it.

  • You're probably one of the most obnoxious and hypocritical morons I have ever seen on Youtube, you frankly make me chuckle. You cannot come up with a better insult than "fucking hipster", or any variation of it for that matter. You honestly should rethink about what you type onto the internet because whoever reads your comments probably thinks you're a fucking moron and laughs at the stupid shit you post.

Anyways, I'm out of this bullshit, peace. Your answer : "Fucking hipster, die!"

  • @raddikkal

You over estimate the level of care I give to your whining faggot response. Get out you worthless cunt.

  • @Primordialfan1 nobody likes you troll

  • @XXXSCHOBELXXX

    Shut the fuck up hipster.

  • @raddikkal agreed, what are this guys credentials

  • 8/10 on this piece of shit? You are a piece of shit hipster like them.

  • @gigel2006 No shit retard. This channel reviews hipster music. You should expect hipster opinions and points of view. If you don't want to see a hipster review music or read hipster comments dont watch videos about indie/hipster metal.

  • I first started listening to metal when the punk scene got too elitist. Here we go again.

  • @renminballer the metal scene got elitist a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time ago brochata

  • @MrSplatterPlatter That's an understatement.

  • @renminballer Apparently, most peoples' definition of "metal elitist" on YouTube is anyone that doesn't think watered-down hipster metal is the best thing to ever happen to music. No thanks. If that's what an elitist is, I'm proud to be one. I'm gonna go listen to Ulver, Enslaved, and Emperor for black metal experimentation.

  • @aarongtr180 I agree, I hate hearing about how Agalloch or DeafHeaven is the greatest "black metal" bands ever from some jackass who has never even listen to Emperor's and Enslaved's first albums.

  • @BlackxJesus Yeah but Agalloch and DeafHeaven are pretty amazing if u ask me....

  • @renminballer What's wrong with being an elitiist. If everyone tries to keep up with elitists (bettering their taste in music) then eventually, you have nothing but great, artistic music in its purest form, So i dont really care too much about elitists. :/

  • @redfoxskater That has nothing to do with being elitist.

  • @Zolrak666 Seriously? I must not know what an elitist is then. What do you think it is?

  • 7:21

LETS BE A BLACK METUHL BAND

    you're fucking awesome

  • Thanks for the review, the drums are freakin great. How about Division Day - Beartrap Island?

  • You read way too much into things LOL

  • Metal cred revoked.

  • are you kiddin the frontman uses an insane amount of reverb on the vocals,Especially Live,Cant even understand what hes sayin...

  • There are some good musical ideas presented by this band, but they are certainly not ground-breaking. At least, certainly not as much as the singer surely thinks. Even though I find myself enjoying what I am listening to, any semblance of sustained indulgence is shattered by how much of a fucking asshole Hunter Hunt-Hendrix is. He's convinced himself that he's pioneering a genre to the point that he made a manifesto. A manifesto. I am in utter disbelief.

  • generation is a banger

  • You're a hipster.

  • @Plexidi GOOD ONE, BRO!!

  • @ericmsandoval

good what? I wasn't insulting anybody, just stating the obvious.
