I heard Bach for the first time a quarter of a century ago and thought he was a genius. He has sounded better every time I have played him since. It just sounds like the harmony, balance and proportion that must lie within the heart and soul of the universe. Words are a blunt instrument. Music is a sensual rather than a cerebral experience. Just play some Bach. You'll know what I mean. He said it better without words.
i agree with @caddencadden i feel i heard this music somewhere before when i was very young and i loved it for some bizarre reason. And when i discover it nowadays i feel very happy.
Una mierda no... simplemente no saben de música... es distinto... la ignorancia no te hace mala persona... pasa q nunca sintieron la musica recorrer todo su cuerpo.. una pena
oh for f*ck sake. he wrote this piece as well? there are so many pieces of music i heard as a young boy and they keep on turning out to be written by bach!
Actually, he didn't. I don't know why it's still sometimes attributed to Bach. Since the 70s, it's been pretty well known that this was written by Petzold, not Bach.
@caddencadden This was not composed by Bach actually. It's misleadingly attributed to Bach. Not that I am taking away anything from his genius. He composed more masterpieces than every other composer combined imo.
At least you have good memories of those times. When I was a kid, there was this odd TV commercial for an Italian coffee brand (Segafredo) in which a very bizarre man with an unbearable little moustache drank coffee at the sound of Bach’s Badinerie.
Needless to say, I still feel shivers down my spine today every time I listen to that music.
The title should be changed from "Bach- Minuet in G major" to "Petzold- Minut in G major" instead. It's about time we give credit to the proper cmposer Christian Petzold (1677-1733) who wrote the piece for a harpsichord in Dresden. This is an established fact since 1970. What good is updating electronic devices when the info don't update?
The piece was in the Anna M. Notebook in the Bach family collection an for many years attributed to JS Bach himself.
@caddencadden you realize their were many generations of Bach's that were musicians Johann Sebastian Bach was like the fithth generation of musician in the Bach family
@caddencadden: Bach wrote scads and oodles of chamber music for the court of his time. If you can set your watch by the beat of the music, then it is most probably Baroque period, and most likely Bach. Bach and Handel wrote a lot of the music of this time period that way. Look up the Bach concertos or Handel's "Messiah" oratorio.
@caddencadden Here's one maybe you don't know - Jethro Tull did an instrumental in the late sixties, with the flute the major instrument, called 'bouree'. J.S. Bach wrote it for the classical guitar.
@caddencadden you seem like a nice kid, but while listening to this being stoned, i skipped half the song, cause i couldnt find your reaction, but seeing as it is highest, damn it. lol, just wanted to share that with you. enjoy the beautiful classical tunes :) cheers buddy
@nomorespooks2 i'm afraid that i cannot agree with you on that. racism is wrong full stop, as is the term "nigga". that's official and you are right to agree. but islam is a religion that promotes peace and love. people claiming they're muslim whilst promoting violence and hatred are not muslim, they're evil. so when you say "muslim invasions", you must mean "religious extremism", i.e. using religion as an excuse to hurt people. muslims despise those terrorists who ruin their religion's name.
@nomorespooks2 i must say that i was becoming increasingly concerned for the future of Western Civilisation, when citizens of a superpower ruled by a man of African descent can freely indulge themselves in "nigga" culture. but you have calmed my fears, thank you.
This is mind-blowing music....He was the greatest German composer...His harpsichord copisitions are mind blowing.......I love his music....Ich leibe Bach....
saved by the bell episode where jessie didn't want to go to the dance because of her height and slater kept asking her, she kept refusing. they played this song in mr. tuttles class
There were several notebooks containing works hand-copied by members of Bach's family including Anna Magdalena, CPE, JC (photocopier n/a).
Minuet like other dances (Sarabande, Gavotte, Gigue) were common. As there are several Minuets in G in the Anna M. Notebook. Some have assigned catalog (BWV #). This one. however, does not. So have to assumed it was NOT written by Bach.

I love classical music and consider Bach as one of the greatest musical geniuses of all time, but at the music school, I hated learning his minuets. The ones I have played included this one. Since then, when I listen to this piece, it always reminds me of sweating over its notes in the past. Damn. Besides, I love Bach's music.
I had to do this for a violin exam a few years ago but I used to practice it so much my 4 year old sister started calling it "Sissy's Song" I am sissy. She is 4 and can sing this entire song, it's beautiful how classic music can touch people.
I've got perfect pitch. Can someone please explain to me why I hear A major not G? Is this some sort of Baroque tonality which I have not yet read about?
I've had this stuck in my head for days not knowing the title happend to come across it as a related vidieo to night on bald mountain how cool is that!?
@Sullivanwushere "That nigga's face does not fit in with this music" Given that the music of Bach embodies all that is good, nobel and beautiful about the human spirit, his face "fits in" with his music a million times better than your comment ever will.
@Sullivanwushere your ignorance doesn't fit in with this music, or indeed this century. So badass you feel the need to use racial slurs on the INTERNET, where people can't touch you. WOW.
@hopelesscynic1 He was obviously being funny. If you're too stupid to realize that, and have to start talking shit to someone "on the INTERNET, where people can't touch you. WOW." then you should just not comment at all.
@badrowbot i'm sorry, how old are you, twelve? i'm not sure what shack you grew up in, but i would have thought that you knew by now that "nigga" is not only offensive, but abusive. and i'm all for humour, but racism is not funny, never has and never will be. now, if you're too inbred to understand that, it's not your fault. just try not to use "hurr" as a comeback, it's not a word, it's a farmyard noise.
@hopelesscynic1 I was trying to appeal to your language. Retard is what you speak isn't? Because that's all I'm reading. I think it would help you to know that "sullivanwushere" is black, and I am his white friend. Who are you to call us racist? You don't fucking know either of us, so don't even start insulting people and talking trash over the internet. "Nigga" is more commonly used as a term for "buddy" now-a-days, rather than as a racist term. If he wanted to be offensive, he'd say "nigger".
@badrowbot i understand that "nigga" is a non-racist term among some black people, but it is commonly offensive and i wouldn't be too impressed if somebody called me that. i wouldn't be too offended if he said it in an off-hand way about a "buddy", but you surely can see why someone would think it an insult when a completely anonymous source puts it online, as you cannot hear his tone or whether he's a republican redneck with a rifle. clearly a misunderstanding. truce?
@Sullivanwushere ... that "nigga" is offensive? i'm not well acquainted with american humour, but over on this side of the pond it is highly offensive. and i'm indifferent to your forgiveness, because i didn't ask for it. i proposed a truce to your friend because he/she clearly explained the misunderstanding. i have every right to get angry for racist abuse. if anyone called me a "nigger" to my face i'd knock them out, and i would hope you would too.
@Sullivanwushere look, this is a pointless disagreement. it sounded like you were saying that that horrible pic of bach looked like a "nigga", thus insulting black ppl and anyone politically correct. im not a "fucking jerk" for finding "nigger" offensive, i'd say the ones who liked your comment were "jerks". now i shan't comment further as this stupidity is tainting the video that other people want to watch without mindless bickering.
Not to be a know-it-all, but this piece was actually composed by Christian Petzold. Bach's family preserved it in the Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach - not as an easy piece for beginning keyboard players (Bach had a very technical regimen for training his sons with few easy pieces). Its actual use was probably for dance lessons so Anna could teach the kids some basic steps. It was simple enough so Anna could play it and give directions at the same time. Still a beautiful piece, whoever wrote it
Actually, this is not J. S. Bach's piece, but Christian Petzold's, one of his pupils. For a very long time this was widely believed to belong to Bach's opus. However, the true authorship has been confirmed recently.
oh this is so beautiful. I usually listen to Rock n' Roll bands like KISS or G n' R and Pop such as Gaga, but I also need classic music like this :)

I KNEW this wasn't the original key! First thing I thought when I got here was "that's funny...this isn't in G Major..."
