@OneDownServer It's a solo. When someone does a solo, it's either a composed or improvised melody. This is an improvised solo. Some videos are short just to show a players playing ability. In order for your comment to not appear as 'pointless' criticism, can you explain how it's meaningless, and why the chords are ugly?

i think its funny how pple say alex sounds very guthrie, maybe because they like guthrie better or just known him longer..but to me alex has a style of his own, he makes every note his and understands the language of music...not to hate on guthrie, guthrie is a master! but i think that "very guthire" thing should not be be use to describe alex's sound.

but he does has a unique style and phrasing that you dont see at guthrie (I mean diffrenet)

@zenabi12 I personally think that Alex sounds nothing like guthrie save for the fact that he is also a phenomenal on the spot improviser and plays in a somewhat similar genre of music. If I HAD to compare him to anyone in the same area of music it would be some hybrid of gambale and howe. Of course this doesn't do his music justice as just about any musician can be reduced to some trace influences as everyone is inspired by someone. I think its enough to simply say that Alex is REALLY GOOD.

@zenabi12 or only because they both play for bluesjamtracks, and people who watch to youtube has a limited knowledge of the music scene, built only by "what is enlighted". I mean that my respect for both is deep, one of my main inspiration is Govan, but I think that people should have to "look around" themself a bit more and not just stop on these 4 or 5 videos given by tube and say "oh well they are quite similar"...

@stringskippa thats because you like Greg Howe better or know Greg longer.......Guthrie is Guthrie......and he has play since he 3 years old, imposible he tried to copy Greg......and Wonderful Slippery Things created back in 1993, and Guthrie already transcribed Shawn Lane song when he was in college.......so Guthrie is not NEW guitarist try to impress audience in youtube, he is real musician, just like Greg......If there is any guitarist Guthrie try to copy, it is Shawn Lane becse he's his idol

Greg doesn't need to copy from Shawn Lane, Greg idolizes a much much better guitarist, Allan Holdsworth - who Shawn Lane considers as the best. Check out Shawn Lane interviewing Allan Holdsworth. =) Btw, Hutchings just takes Howe's playing to another level.
