Hey VindicatedBliss. thanks for the vids. Great stuff.
I have a question. I just ordered (and should be getting it in a week) the Vitesse D7HG. I was wondering firstly, what rack are you using with that pannier? Looks like a great set up. Can you fit a change of clothes in there (shoes included). Also, how easy is it to roll around like that, by the seat? That's the way I want to go, instead of lugging 12 kilos around. Thanks again! I'll make a short vid when I get mine. We do need more vids!
@zoonie00 No problem buddy. I'm one of the biggest Dahon fans in the UK. Any chance I can help others choose the best ride for their money, I'm glad to do it. Happy trails dude.
@zoonie00 Hi. This is the 2009 D7 version. When I got it , it cost a lot less than the HG version. I saw online they are both selling on ebay brand new for £359. I have had lots of tinkering issues with the gears on this bike along with the twistgrip. Just seems to never be exactly on the right gear. I owned a Curve D3 with a hub gear and it also had twistgrips, but 100% easier to maintain and to tune perfectly. I'd recommend getting the hub.
VITESSE RULES! I've got a D7 and to me it's better than the brompton (tried both before buying). To be precise, they are both excellent, Brompton is slimmer and a little lighter and has that patented rear wheel (okay, okay) but my Vitesse folds and unfolds IN 6 REAL SECONDS! I RIDE IT EVERYDAY IN ITALIAN TERRIBLE TRAFFIC and it's extremely stable: HOLES, BUMPS, EVEN JUMPS aren't a problem! The alloy frame is indestructible. And on the top of all that, it cost MUCH less than a Brompton.
Bought a D7 and a Vitesse. Should be cycling around the south of Ireland this year 30-40 mile stints. Its no tourer, rides like a twitchy cheap heavy mountain bike but .... fits on public transport, ferry's and pubs and you can carry it with one hand or push it.
hi thanks fr the vid, looking great the bike. just wondering is it faster than d3 since 7 speed? i got d3 recently and it very hard to pedal n cant speed much, maybe i m old lol.
i might consider selling it and get the 20inch wheel like eco3 with more speed.
Hello. Thanks for the comment. I do find the Vitesse does go much faster than the D3. i did like the ease of riding the D3, but the 7 gears on this thing really brings out the speed demon in me. That added to the thinner, faster wheels and I feel like a proper road biker. The only real problem I've had with it so far is some serious creakign of the hanlebar post around the hinge. I've read i may need to tighten a bolt and put some lube on the hinge. I've not tried that yet. Fun bike.
thanks for the reply, i might consider sell d3 in future. but for now i am happy with it due to small size, easier to put in my car. but the problem is the speed while riding on busy road.
hi again, sorry for late response. my dahon curve d3 i reach 25 km/h on flat road and thats the top speed i can go.i wonder what speed did u reach on vitesse 7.
one more thing the gear inches vitesse is only up to 78 and d3 is 77. wonder how is vitesse going to be faster than curve d3? maybe because of bigger wheels?
I do miss the hub gear and its lack of maintenance though as the D7 needs some fiddling to keep the gearing correct; so far it slips slightly and my complete lack of knowledge on how to fix bikes is outstanding.....need to bring it to a shop for a tune up.
I have one of these. Its wonderful to ride and handles like a full sized one.So pleased with it. I have a trailer and take my dog rides.
