Beer Review: Sierra Nevada 12th Release Harvest Wet Hop Ale

I laughed my ass off watching this because I also thought it tasted like weed... I love the hesitation in the video before you say it like it is... I went out with my friends a few nights ago, got some Sierra Wet Hop 2011 at a good bar, and called it the "weed beer" all night. Loved it so much I'm having another one right now! Cheers!

it almost taste like weed =), hops are in the same family as cannabis sativa (marijuana) hop cones are alot like marijuana buds in appearance but without THC.

i love hops alot im an IPA guy all the way and would love to have a beer with atleast 55 ibus.

Joe, do me a favor and try Bluegrass Brewing Company's American Pale Ale.. I beleive it says APA on the bottle.

Its a regular pale ale but with more ibus than most pale ales it has like 50 ibus or somthing. I love it plus its brewed in KY

Best dang beer IN THE WORLD for hopheads (Ruination IPA is a close second.) LOVE this beer! It reminds me of growing hops on the vine at Sierra Nevada during the summer. I miss Chico!

wow, I have never had a beer like this: the hops are very prominent but its finish is smooth perhaps a small bitter at the end but very small this beer is great the 13th just came out so if you can find it, get it! a must try for any hop head! for me this beer gets a A

Its the fresh "wet" hops vs the dry hops that give it the "dank" flavor. I live just up the street from the SN brewery on 20th, I drive past it everyday, and I love the smell of the hops they grow on site.

With all that in mind, this means that Budweiser has exceptional smoke for one very good reason... It's force carbonated!

Think about it, the more carbonation that the beer has given up to that small space in the top of the bottle, the more vapor (smoke) there will be. But this could also means the beer lost some carbonation along the way, or that it was force carbonated (carbonation is the yeasts job, damnit).

This leads me to wonder... is smoke really a good thing? Who knows..

Oh, for the record dude. I know you love smoke and all, but here's a little science for you. The "smoke" is actually water (rather, beer) vapor. The smoking effect happens as a result of decompression. If it's highly compressed, when all that pressure releases, some water (and alcohol) vaporize in the process because of the rapid pressure change. Just like your blood will boil if you come up from the bottom of the ocean too fast.

Hey man, weed and hops are in the same botanical family (Cannabaceae).

They're extremely closely related, and if you were to taste both at the same time, you might notice flavor similarities a lot more often.

Also, hops, like it's cousin cannabis, are pretty chemically complex and are known to be at least somewhat psychoactive, but like weed this is only in the female flowers.

You may notice a slightly different buzz with fresher and/or hoppier beers.
