You have to realize that people are brainwashed to hate themselves so that they can be easily controlled. The brain accepts this message unless it's challenged and corrected, and that takes a long time since by the time you realize it, it's very ingrained. But the only choice is to challenge the messages for what they are: MIND-CONTROL.
Great stuff., > Yup' - "it gets better!" for lots of reasons; including that you get older and have vastly more control of your private world., Life is typically pretty tough for pretty much all youngsters., remember straights don't always go on to an easy life either, the straights phrase "We all got married and we all got divorced at about the same time" comes to mind.
Dude. You really touched me deep. Those words made me feel alot better and i thank you so much for that. I subscribed and i hope to see your other videos really soon
I have posted the link to this video on "two cans and string", where a lot of teenagers go to connect with other people. Would you please give a great big hug to your family from me - don't forget the dog. It's hard to say which video I find the most moving; I guess the love you have for each other makes each person seem the most awesome at that moment. I am so happy that you have a great boyfriend. What a family he has married into! Hugs John :)
This made me cry....I have tried to end my life since 6th grade....my happiness is my sister, my niece and nephew. And my bestfriends whom helped me by giving me support. Cause of them I'm still here and I shall be posting this on facebook cause my school well I know I am not the only one that thought like the ones I once had live in their minds. And honestly it could be anyone, even when they look happy on the outside. You rock scott
Hi Scott - It's been too long since I stopped by to say hi and let you know that I really respect and admire you and what you're doing here. keep up the good work. Much love, Tom from the Storyguys.
In support of all those brave, I entered an animation contest for Valentine's Day with a gay 'coming out' theme.

this is a great video scott thanks for makeing it you a great guy and thanks for help us out yea we all have hard time but we have to over come them so thanks take care man
You are a good person and you have been very strong. I have had the pleasure of watching your year of videos. As a teacher in a high school I can only wish my students will find your videos, I really thank you for your work. I will be watching.
I'm so happy you made a video!! Please keep doing them! btw, really nice video, you really touched my feelings as always. Youtube is my santuary for been away of my gay problems. I think I am going to emigrate. I'm thinking about Canada, US or Australia. I listen this song when I what to feel lost : "Show me what I'm looking for" from Carolina Liar. I think you would like it! <3
Aaw, finally some ilght shining over there for you :D, my congratulations to you having found a boyfriend btw, hearing made me all warm and fuzzy inside. Finding - and experiencing - happiness/contentment is what all humans do anyway, regardless of class, race, sexuality, religion, whatever.
I have seen pastors, priests, preachers and all manner of clergy. You have the real compassion. Stay like you are. I hope that you and your soul-mate live in happiness for a hundred years. And then I hope that there is some kind of heaven where you guys can be in love forever. Thanks for a great video.
Scott I think it's cool that you recongnized older people too. i didnt come out till I was 35 and I think it may have been worse than if I would have done it younger, because at that age you have "lost yourself" or something like that so bad, it's hard to learn to live differently or honestly and openly. Thankfully though, I did, and it was one of the best things I ever did. My biggest regret in life was not doing it sooner. This affects people of all ages. Thank you.!
@pvampire BTW....I noticed the medals hanging behind you, which clearly shows your a winner, but before I noticed them, I thought to myslef you were a true winner because of the aweomse heart that you have! I followed you for your entire year on youtube and never missed a day, and my life was so much the richer for it! Your parents are awesome people to have raised you like they did! You surely made it easier for me to come out and to be a proud person. :)
Leviticus 18:22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it [is] abomination.
Romans 1: 26 For this cause YHVH gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
Scott - so great to hear from you again. After sharing your life for a full year and watching you wrestle with the ups and downs of high school and classes and hockey and life (with the always-present question of when and how you might come out), I can say that hearing you talk about your bf has truly made things better for me. My thanks to you, and my love and best wishes to the two of you.
We should be your own beacon of happiness also. that goes along with ur point of having a good foundation. even if (god forbid) you, or anyone loses a BF, know naturally you still have respect, love for urself, be thankful for the time you had together, knowing real love lasts a lifetime, as a result, have much more to give others.
@sleekcartim Thanks for those encouraging words; I lost my partner to cancer after 33 years of love and devotion to each other. Real love does last a lifetime even though one person is left to carry on when the other no long has the ability to live in our world.
@sleekcartim Thank you Sleek. I like the part of that scene where Anne Bancroft says to her son "You wouldn't want to forget would you?" even though never forgetting came at the cost of constantly re-living the circumstances surrounding his partner's death. It's the same for me; I remember Bill open his eyes briefly in an arduous attempt to say goodbye one last time an hour before taking his last breath. Even if my mind goes soft in 30 years or more I shall never forget that moment.
@affecttheeffect 33 years in love is a strong testament for kids & us older ppl, that it does get better. too many ppl (even some gays) think gay ppl dont get into real relationships, we are here to say thats BS! I totally believe everyone gets their turn.
so right about the fact there has been gay suicides forever. You never would hear about them, most of the time you never knew why, but ofcoarse their secret family always knows, grieves in silence, just as the victim always lived. When i was a gay helpline volunteer, often all kids needed to here is a reassuring voice in the dark, listening 2 his / her story & letting them know everything will be alright, things will get better in time. find your way out, It does get better, always does, always
The take away line for me was "No happy life is without tragedy". One should never take happiness for granted; it is a thing to be cherished and nourished day by day for it can disappear in a relative instant.
One thing I really like about this video is its lack of fake cheer. While I'm a supporter of the It Gets Better Project, I worry that anything that sounds like a PSA will just get a "you don't understand" reaction from a young person in pain. As usual, you speak with sincerity and candor and don't sugar-coat. In fact, that might be the reason you have so many viewers and get such great reactions: your sincerity always shines through. In this case, I hope that gets through to someone and helps.
As usual a very insightfull video Scott, if it just saves one young man its all been worth it. Its a pity some people still live in the middle ages and profess to be christians while being filled with hatred. still things are getting better, here in the Uk we have full equality now and at least in parts of the USA its much the same.
Just wanted to say how nice it is to see you make a new video, & to see this video in particular, as I'm sure it will help some people who are desperately in need. For anyone out there who still isn't convinced, let me confirm the message: it does get better.
Also, congrats on your bf; he truly sounds amazing. Make a joint vid? Last, I wanted to LyK that I used ur story in a speech about homophobia, which I think really changed some hearts/minds.
cont. Finally though I'm sad to hear about the recent deaths, I am even more sadend that it takes a media circus to bring it to light. People, we need to be more vocal and open about what is going on.
cont. I think high school can be a daunting place for teens because it becomes a world of it's own, full of the same people you have to see everyday and it does get on top of you sometimes. For everyone reading and listening to this, there are always people who will care about you whether it's family, friends, teachers; you just have to make them aware of your problems.
I've been in this place myself aswell, and for years through high school there were rumors about me and people would call me names. Most of the time I brushed them off but they did buid up and I did feel like ending it but through it all I found my true friends and getting to college nobody cared whho or what I was. cont.
I'm kind of jealous that you get to make videos, such as this one.
I really wish that I could, but I'm military, and an injunction against DADT is an insufficient measure that could be easily reversed. I have no intention of taking any unnecessary risks.
On the plus side, you're the person I would prefer above any other to speak as my voice regarding the broad topic of homosexuality. I can't think of any time when I've ever disagreed with you.
Something tells me that this video will make a difference in some anonymous kid's life, or perhaps several.
Just think, that nameless lurker kid could have been any one of us, only a few years ago -- lost and uncertain, grasping for some hope of a less painful and cloistered existence.
So glad you're back, and so glad you're happy. And I'm deeply gratified to see that your wisdom has continued to expand and fill your words. Awesome message.
Scotty- wow- what an amazing man u r dude; from one hockey freak to another, THANK YOU- u gotta be Prime Minister man; do it! get in there and rough up that House on the Hill dude!
