Just watched this recently and really enjoyed Garrett Hedlunds performance. He really made you ambivalent about his character. Multi-faceted and not many actors could pull that off. He dug into many layers for the part of Billy. I watched a premiere interview and Garrett summed up this movie in one sentence that really made me see the conflict in the middle east in a different light "an eye for an eye and the whole world is blind, accordint to Ghandi". Garrett is well read and intelligent.

every time I watch this movie, I feel all depressed, and yet I still watch it when it airs on TV. It truly sends the message that vengence just makes crap worse. If Hume just let the guy who killed his son go to jail, his wife and other son wouldn't have been shot later on. Billy want revenge and in the process the rest of his gang gets killed and he ends up dying in the end.

I'm sure one day someone will replicate Kevin  Bacon's character in the real world.
