It's quite different from the Good Samaritan story. Angulimala was someone who wished for salvation/enlightenment. He was led down the wrong path and ultimately his rage took over and he began to kill everyone who stood in his way. He understood that he must kill 1000 people, so as he did he collected one of their fingers. Blinded by his ambition for enlightenment, he had killed 999 and was walking through the woods where he sees his own mother. He runs after her, but the Buddha appears and

he is angry that the Buddha is in the way. So Angulimala decides that the Buddha shall be his 1000th victim. He yells for the Buddha to stop, even though he's now standing still, Angulimala can't reach him, no matter how hard he tries. The Buddha raises his hand and says "I have stopped, but you have not... I have stopped my evil-doing, but you have not." The Buddha urges Angulimala to clear his mind and see that who was chasing was no mere woman but in fact the one person who loved him
