  • Good god almighty they gave him a muffler trophy

  • This was the pinnacle of the bowling era. Since this time it is absolutely shameful what the USBC has approved to decimate the sport of gentlemen.

  • Two of the all-time great bowlers, and both fine gentlemen. They don't come much better than Don Johnson and Earl Anthony. RIP Earl and Don. You are both sorely missed.

  • Two class acts in competiton. Thank you for posting this.

  • rofl. don johnson looks like a freaking zombie and why the fuck dosn't the 1 ceed ever ever ever ever win;.

  • earl is so smooth

  • Its apparent that Don Johnson was going for perfect high packed in strikes taking advantage of his super accuracy.

  • Was this the year of Earl's heart attack?

  • @deesyphrr About a year before -- Earl had his heart attack in '78

  • I never saw Don Johnson bowl at Play Bowl Lanes, but I'm a big fan of his! I walked around the foudation of Play Bowl Lanes last weekend and I could visualize what the 24 lane bowling house use to look like back in the earlly 1970's. I was a rug-rat back then and I bowled a youth league there as well. I bought the Don Johnson bowling instructional videos in the 1990's and the knowege I took from them raised my bowling average 20 pins per game. Both Don and Earl were SUPER TALENTED!

  • Don Johnson was a personal friend of mine. Before he passed away, he was attempting to get copies of his TV victories. Do you have anymore appearences? Does anyone else? He was a great guy! Thanks.

  • did you ever see him in his younger days at Play Bowl Lanes in Kokomo...groomed by Don Lowry

  • the kokamo kid against the human robot bowling machine.

  • Pete Fountain was a huge Don Johnson fan, it seems.

  • With a stepper (non-solid-state) chassis they would get totally out of synchronization and the pinchaser or mechanic would then literally hand-crank the unit until everything was once again in sync. Few things can make me laugh so hard as seeing this happen (as long as I'm not chasing pins)!!!

It usually took 10-15 minutes before the machine was "zeroed".

  • lol normal and high deff look exactly the same in this vid

  • I am always a big Earl fan, and although Johnson was great.... I never wanted him to beat Earl! Earl seemed to get better every week and he was a great announcer too.... miss you E A R L !!!!

  • and what antiperspirent was the koko kid wearing in this match?

  • I liked watching both these guys. Square Earl was just "set & go", knew what he wanted to do, and beat most everybody that came across him. Johnson just seemed to do everything right, just silky smooth.

  • You couldn't have said it better. I think any bowler would kill to have Earl's accuracy and Don's smooth approach and follow-through.

  • Those AMF 82-30 pinsetters were an outstanding machine- they'll run like a clock as long as they get routine TLC, IMO superior to the 82-70s that replaced them. Always got a kick out of their buck-tooth grin too. One of the drawbacks was if someone had a late foul and the machine began cycling- they would totally go bonkers.

Thank you for uploading this- these two bowlers were exemplary in their day, back when skill was a factor as opposed to how much technology in a ball you could purchase.

  • Bucktooth grin-- I like that analogy!

  • I just like Earls glasses! LOL

  • The pinsetters aren't too unusual. They're AMF 82-30's. What IS odd tho, is that they have Burnswick ball returns, yet the rest of the centre is AMF. Odd. Nice Video.

  • The center which I bowl at just recently installed Brunswick 2000 ball returns on a few of our pairs. The rest of our center is AMF!

  • Another good upload...

  • Those are very unusual pinsetters.....

Good upload, how did you get this anyway? :)
