  • Thank you. That was very helpful.

I hope some day I can play like that.

  • Muito boa essa aula

    Muito obrigado amigo.

  • Matt,

Thank you for the lesson. I was a drum set player for many years, and many gigs.

Now, I want to get in hand drumming. I am left handed, so it was good to see your video.

I hope you make more for the love of music.

    peace.

    Tim

  • why is the sound like darbuka????

  • Dude, you are sweet fucking good men!

  • thx alot

    it helped me lern

  • really cool! Crispy sound... I'm always afraid to tune my bongos to that point =(

  • That's OK. Start with higher quality skins, bring them up high with your tuning, then lower them after playing.

    It's a good time...

  • I've got bongos, DOLPHIN is it good?

  • This only strengthens my case that in order to learn any musical instrument well one has to first master the fundamentals. The rest falls into place eventually after putting in the hours of practice.

Your instruction is practical, succinct and most importantly intuitive.

I prefer the no-frills approach here to overwhelming me with too much info.

  • Agreed. Learning music is learning a language. Children need to speak one and two word utterances and to pronounce them correctly before writing novels.

    Matt

  • i like this song of bongo! quero tambiem yo tocar eso bongo!!!!!

  • are you left handed?

  • i play my bongos left handed too, but i am right handed

  • very explanatory. helpful indeed, great videos man.

  • i've got the same bongos, matador, am i right?

  • Yes.

  • bua yo toco el bongo , pero me falta miles de años para llegar aser asi de seca (buena pal que no en tienda)

  • At last somone who can actually play a cool groove. Instead of just being able to hit it aptly. Groove on man.

  • quero comprar viejo bongo, cuanto $ poder costar?

  • $125

  • linda musica de bongo!!!! Te otimo!

  • am i tripping or does this guy have his bongos backwards?

  • Those who play changui and left handers both hold them this way. I'm not playing changui here, but I am left handed.

  • whats the name of the song?=)

  • Ta Benito Eh from his Dundunbanza CD (Arsenio Rodriguez)

  • wow your relly good i play piano

  • Hi Your 2 lessons are great could you please do some more because i have nowhere to go from here....................

  • sos bueno. mira el mio busca raleper

  • gorgeous work

  • Hey,

thanks for posting this video, it's the very first thing i learned =)...you should definitly post more vids like this.. It really helped hearing the beat alone, and then matching it up with the music!

  • i totally agree, great work!

  • I've been meaning to learn how to play bongos... and you just convinced me!

  • awesome, i might give this a try - good stuff man

  • thanks for that it was a good rhymth

  • You are really good im impressed!!!!!!

  • Thanx, I like how you show the rhythm, and then how it goes with the music... would you normally keep the steady beat going in this style, or add more flavor later?

  • Hello Aetherus, thanks!

It would depend strictly on the piece. You always have to play what the individual and particular song requires.

    Matt

  • nice video! I will try & practice that... Thanks... GOD BLESS :-)

  • thanks a lot for this vid...

it really helps when you're new to bongos

i like it because it's really the basic rhythm..

now i'm going to warm up my rhythm tech bongos

so good my neighbours are gonna sing along...

and i was just wondering if there is a vid where i can see if my bongo is tuned up good... i think my hembra is bit too loose...

  • I played on a cooking pot, i'm geting a bongo tomorrow, i think i'm redy =P

Realy nice video, i'll keep looking for more of yours

  • Thanks! You might enjoy my Cookin" with the Martillo video, obtained at youtube by searching for exactly that. Good luck!

    matt

  • this was awesome...i was looking for something like this for quite a while. like a year ago i couldnt find much at all. this was very easy to pick up. i dont have any drums at this time but just playing on the couch is working just fine. thanks for the easy to follow lessons

  • Your story about playing "bongo" on the couch reminds me that many many moons ago I used to play "bongo" on my legs, my calves actually, sitting cross legged. One morning I woke up and looked and my calves were black and blue. I was all worried, just a young kid. Thought maybe I had cancer or something, I didn't know what was wrong or how it happened.

They were black and blue from playing "bongo" on them the night before..... I bought my first pair shortly thereafter!

    Cheers,

    matt

  • Matt--

I just posted a comment on your samba video earlier, so I already have the answer on my left-hander question!

Are these videos available for purchase at a music store or via the 'Net? You're probably the best bongo player I've seen on YouTube--and definitely one of the best teachers.

    Thanks again, bro'!

    Charlie

  • Well thanks for the nice comments Charlie, much appreciated!

Have you seen the "Cookin' With the Martillo" video I did? Because a buddy of mine posted it, some people overlook it. I had a lot of fun with that also.

My gig with the bongo has been to pretty much do everything for free.... for the good of the instrument....

You might check out the worldwide bongogroup at yahoo... 1000 bongoseros from over 50 nations!

    Cheers,

    matt

  • Good video! I have buyed my Bongo Today! this is my first lesson! Thanks and greetings from Argentina!

  • yey! nice to watch this video coz u'll learn a lot..thanks dude

  • That is VERY cool bongo playing! Superb set of videos.

  • i like how u rub ur 2 bongos.

  • Keeps the skins warm. And warm skins sound better.

    Matt

  • Really nice playing!

  • Thank you for the explanation! Rythmic culture is at the basis of any serious music. Learning...

  • wow...I love it!! *o*

  • I love the sound of your bongos. What brand is it?

  • it says Matador on the skins

  • Thanks Ursus! These are very affordable LP Matador bongos. However, I played many pairs of this brand at the music store, most of which were mediocre, before purchasing this set. Moral of the story: try several pairs of the same model before you buy! There is wide variation within each model.

  • Thanks for the great instructional video. It's nice to watch a left-handed player as well!
