But a nonpareil and absolutely stunning one is the Kondrashin's LP recorded in 60's with Nikolay Filippov (Philippov) as trombone soloist. Unfortunatelly, I don't have that record. It had becom a rarity a long ago.
Perhaps you're talking about his rather...intense movement?
He plays it beautifully. Some people move more than others when they play, it often doesn't work out technique wise, but hey, he seems to be doing alright. :)
i don't like moving that much while playing... i couldn't hold steady notes with my instrument moving that much! but who am i to compare? wonderfully played...
@obiwan88 Hi! There is regrettably no recording... I heard it two times live in Strasbourg (France). But there is many videos on Youtube from this guy ;)
So, you just have to write Nicolas Moutier and then to choose ;)

An amazing player, but sometimes I question his movements, esp. in an orchestra. You would automatically lose projection on a note if the bell is dropping to the floor.
Grande solo de trombone!!

Jörgen van Rijen is too emotional for this particular episode. I would say even a little hysterical.

@Haritonov46
I thought Mahler's music is about being emotional?
Is there a particular solo of this section you preferred? :-)

This one is a little better:
MAHLER 3 - Trombone excerpts - Ximo Vicedo & brass friends - Orquesta RTVE (OSRTVE)

Of course I am not talking his movement but exclusively his musical phrasing, his music thinking and perception of the episode's mood.

No I like his sound, it's nice and clear. Yeah maybe if he didn't move around so much but that's his style.

I'm not sure if that trombone section can sound any better than they do at my favorite part of the whole first movement...1:37 in. My goodness.
