I am starting to agree with Monitchka. The older dancers like Sylvie Guillem and Darcey Bussell are gone from the stage and I believe Natalia is their rightful successor.

Natalia Osipova is special. That is sure. Look at Kitri.

Yes, passion is good and necessary.. but Giselle has a style, a clear style in the port de bras, and in the whole dynamic, the actual way of performing the steps of the choreography...

I don't see much of that in the performance of this very lovely, very strong lady.

When one plays Beethoven, well, it should sound like Beethoven, therefor, Gisselle should look in the style of Giselle.

some people don't understand passion. Natalia has so much passion for her dancing and it shows..that is what is so magnetic about her and gives her that extra spark. but it's too much for some people to handle because very few people have it. they would rather watch plain dancing, with little emotion. she is extremely special and one of the greatest ballerinas of all time. many can have great technique but very few have the stage presence that she has.

Bravo!!!!!! Her soul in this role is shown so clearly. Not only are her steps exquisitely perfect, but her emotions brought to the audience make her so much better than many who perform this piece. Absolutely excellent.

@kimmois1 you cantcompaire - ballerinas today have much more physical skills. The speed of Osipova isnt caused by pld reproduction technique :)

Nevertheless i like Kirklands variation, but the best i ever saw is natalia Bessmertnovas. It is middle of the 70th i think, but no other ballerina did this variation as smooth as Bessmertnova.

@Leirix61 If you look at Kirkland she actually tombees into a deep penchee from the arabesque while she's on fucking point. Osipova just goes to arabesque and falls off the pointe. Kirkland's treatment is far greater technically than Osipova's in this variation. And Bessmertnova was fucking shit, she just fucked the AD of the Kirov.

alina and osipova are both gifted with the things that all aspiring ballerinas want but they both have this lack of control and they lose their artistic quality by always trying ot be over the top. I prefer osipova a hundred times over alina but even then i feel she's too harsh in her movements sometimes. where's the character and grace that made ballet so popular in the past???

@88888Di88888 I know, this was good, but Alina Cojocaru is my favorite ballerina for this role. She plays it very well. I like Natalia as Kitri and Esmerelda, but Alina is better at Giselle.

Excellent hops en pointw, but considering that the two arabesques in this variation are the only two arabesquesin all of Act I in standard performing versions, they seem almost unfinished if you have seen as many great Giselles over the generations as I have.
