At the begining of the war, Lincoln had stated he didn't like like slavery but was conserned with only perserveing the union and would do so without freeing one slave or only freeing some slaves. Visit the Lincoln Memorial and the quote is on the wall. When it became clear that England and France might join the war in favor of the South, he signed the Emancipation Proclimation freeing salves in states he didn't control. Read the EP

He (Lincoln) had considered the idea of sending freed blacks over seas because he thought there were biological deferances that we would never overcome and he never wanted them to have = rights or social status. @MrTThorne93 Furthormore, if he'd intended to free the slaves all along, why did he wait 2 years into the war to sign the emancipation proclimation that only freed slaves in the states of rembellion (ie- states he had not athority over) leaving Maryland and Delware alone withe their slaves? he had to wait until after the war was over to free them, I guess they were still needed or something.
