you need a faster cpu to get faster fps. At least a dual core cpu, a p4 wont do you much good. I got an 8600 gt with a amd 6000 and i only get 30 fps( but that's with direct x10 games.)theirs other factors to take into account too like memory, mother board, power supply etc, but i would say get a dual core or you can just try getting an Nvidia 280 :0.

I have dual ATI Radeon HD 3800 Series video cards in my Dell XPS 630i system. When I run the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (dxdiag) and click the Display tab, the Approx Total Memory given is 1786MB. Does this sound right? How many megabytes are they individually? Do I actually have a 1.78 Gigabyte video card (or equivalent of?) Also, when I attached a second monitor to the second port of the first card, no problem, but when I attached it to the second card Vista didnt detect it. Why would this be?

WOW I have an 8800 but this demo compared to nvidia´s gtx280 medusa demo makes nvidia look like an N64, Y the gtx280 is 15% quicker and have ageia physics but its also 200$ more, the 4870 will sell at 299$ its confirmed, that 80$ less than the gtx260 and the 4850 (8800 sli performance) is at $189 at fxvideocards site. this tells a lot about costs were nvidia hires TSMC while AMD owns fabs.

It's also because Nvidia cards have a higher texture fill rate than what ATI have. ATI pack theres with stream processors, but without the texture fill rates, it doesn't give the same performance.

That's why all high end Nvidia cards run games like Crysis better than ATI cards.

The 9800gx2 can be overclocked, way better than the 3870x2, the core doesnt merely have as much importance as the shaders and memory bandwidth.

Nvidia has more shaders and more memory bandwidth, which allows it to play games that use DX10 and DX10.1 (which has nearly no improvements) and allows you to play at higher res.

the GPU is the entire components together...

Don't you mean the 8800gtsX2. The 9 series was such a let down they over-hyped it and the only card i would say was good was the 9600gt (basically half a 8800gts). The 9800gtx (8800gts OC) and the 9800gx2 were crap. wow staying on the same chip for 2 different series (G92).

Only (but certainly still extremely severe) problem is the abysmal price performance ratio. 3870 X2 is quite excellently priced in comparison, has an up to date feature set and is thus the better way to go.
