@kraenk12 Yep. Honestly, these Altered:Carbon guys are pretty great I think, but I could tell it wasn't Autechre when I heard the fake album leak. Autechre's Oversteps is absolutely phenomenal in my opinion, and they really reach a pinnacle of precision in sound texture that's unmatched by any other artists out there. These guys are still rad, though. They're just not Autechre. Which isn't a bad thing.
ae design from ground up, they do some pretty hardcore programming, however i heard the Gaugear ensemble (reaktor) being used here which was a pre-designed sound on this particular track, which to me makes it lose it's integrity..
can't fault them on a great atmospheric sound though, really brilliant music this is
@isawdrones although i am conspiracy theorist, if you check out the myspace page and net label/blogspot of this group, and then look at how the Autechre track names fit the songs on soulseek much better than the cheesier Altered: Carbon track titles. look at the production. the production is better than Quaristice. I think Autechre is trying to get people that download their leaked tracks to also preorder their album
@Nonima1984 then I'm afraid to say that this is superior to Autechre thus far...I don't see how they coudl top this in terms of prdouction. the production is cleaner and crisper than Quaristice, and far superior to anything on warp or schematic...I'm just boggled by it
@isawdrones yes, but it is far superior to Quaristice on every level. can you not see that? that is a problem in my head, because this soudns more liek Autechre in quality and style than anything else. pick any example
@CammieSpectrum well I don't really want to go on dissing these guys because I think they're actually pretty good, and I don't want to say you don't know what you're talking about.
Just give yourself 2 years and see if you still think that.
No group has nor will ever be able to duplicate AE's sound/style, and for that matter quality in their specific area(s).
A note i will add is..."superior" really if you like it more, then it's superior you right? And that's fine.
@isawdrones I mean superior in the sense that it is more a b s e n t than richard devine or puzzleweazel for example.. there is a progression from presence to A b s e n ce in music and in culture in general. it has not fully happened. one step that is obvious is the the transition from intruments to synth noises...and the use of synth sounds that are less and less familiar sounding. and the crispness of the sounds has never been this good. Quaristice is the closest...
@isawdrones, and I see your point about the songlike progression, except for the song that is supposed to be 0=O....what the hell. this song has no strong structure whatsoever, though when high, the sounds are really clean, crisp, hollowed, extended in space, and wonderful on this song. and Autechre does usually stay in the(Build (Climax (Fade) like most bands, for the most part
@isawdrones , Not to bother you some more, but I was just figured out what is bothering me still Autechre is a great name, partially because it has no or any meaning you want, which signifies their musical style, ironically this is the meaning of Autechre: Music without Interpretation or with Any Interpretation...and so Altered: Carbon is doing this also, but there name is too meaningful and precise in it's meaning, which means cheesy to me..so the music doesn't fit the name for me at least.
@CammieSpectrum well said! and with this comparison it sort of hints at the fact that this group is going for a certain style, like almost all young groups and most older ones too.
whereas I don't think Autechre really try to sound like anything.
I LOVE that about AE, they leave it up to you to create your own mental image to go with their creation.
Pay close attention to all the hints boys.

funny, someone was posting a few of these songs titled autechre:oversteps.
i was thinking this really doesn't sound like something they would do but knowing it was fake i still liked it.

@CammieSpectrum interesting theory. i will respectfully disagree. the production on this work is good.
the methods of production and even melodies this group is using at it's core feel much less experienced than AE.
Specific areas i can point at is much more hands on editing/cutting:
here's a fully sequenced track, they let it play out a bit then put effects and cut it up.
Patches/melodies are much more predictable as well as cuts/edits are rougher than AE....continue
isawdrones 2 years ago
@CammieSpectrum Continuing, AE always surprise me in general, and this didn't surprise me at any point.
AE fans buy AE albums plain and simple.
They don't need funky tricks to sell their albums.
On the contrary i think this group or possibly the label/friend was trying to trick AE fans by posting under AE's name.
it drew my attention at least :D
Cheers

@CammieSpectrum haha! perhaps that is our difference.
that is what I LOVE about AE.
Most patches they use sound both familiar and completely new at the same time.
tipping their hat to the past but pushing forward.
AE patches are something I could not recreate nor manipulate in the same way.
AE themselves probably couldn't recreate some of what they do due to many random elements.
These guys patches do sound like something i have heard and that someone could recreate if they got down to it.

@CammieSpectrum re-reading your comment I do see what u mean with the richard devine/puzzleweazel thing.
that's the reason I can't really listen to much of those specific artists, the lack of a->b progression, something I think AE has.
Also yes, this Group does have much more songlike progression than AE which are much more free/experimental.
haha look at us flooding this sucka.

@CammieSpectrum ooh I haven't yet heard an actual sample from the new album, so really can't comment on the structure of O=0
anyways it looks like we both really love music :D
