  • Dear Doctor, I ask this only as a student. I was wondering about prana. Yes, the oxygen content in the body may be insigificantly influenced by deep breathing, but what about prana content in the body? Perhaps sick patients breath deeper to benefit from the greater vitality in the body. The inherent wisdom of the body, protecting itself by gathering greater amounts of prana?

  • @bhaskarbodhi gathering a lot of prana doesn't mean to gather a lot of air. Don't confuse these two. Since I have praticed the Buteyko method, I have greatly increased my lungs capacity, increased my flexibility and strength => increased my prana. Study the method, practice it, then you will not ask the question any longer.

  • @yogayantra Thank you for your response. I value your experiential understanding and certainly agree with the lung capacity, flexibility and strength. I still wonder how the prana aspect works. The way I understand it, there is prana in the natural elements; hence the deeper and more rapid the breath, the more the fresh prana from the air around us enters in the body, especially if one is in nature. Experientially, this seems to be confirmed in practicing Kapalabhati ("Skull Shining" with prana)
