quite liked the video. made me think about couples who divorce over trivial reasons. loved the song though. very catchy like most of the songs from that era.
Met a girl in Southsea, England in 65, this was our song. Lost contact with her in 67. We got back together two years ago and play this song a lot. Who says romance is dead !
@cougars4win don't worry cougar! I got divorced after 22 years... spent 3 years on my own before meeting the love of my life on the train from Grantham to London! It was like something out of Brief Encounter.... I'm sure you'll find love again. Just take your time....
If only I'd taken this song to heart, I would never have had anything to do with the opposite sex. Four girls have come and gone in the interim. and, it was all a waste of time. I should hve stayed alone for the past 46 years. Just because everyone does something, it does not mean you have to conform. 401ks, remodeling, new cars, parties, marriages, celebrations, and all the rest are a waste of time. Just give me a nice cat for company.
Listen to this several times a day at the moment. in a midst a seperation, divorce, and having to hand over the house i built for me and my partner - who that cheated on me! and is now planning to move into what we had together with the new one! :(
Sitting in the USArmy in 65. This song crushed me for a lot of 'soldier' reasons. It's not fair that a song can yank the hell out of you like this one did. The instruments were (no pun) instrumental as much as the lyrics in helping to make me joyfully miserable overseas. I think this is one of the best "Makes me feel happy about feeling horrible songs" of all times.
i guess most everyone has lost someone at one time....this song fits perfectly....the 60's were such a good time if only we could turn back the clock......
that was the time that bands wrote their own songs and played their instruments and I can understand the words and get the meaning of what the song was saying.
I think the Fortunes will be forever be remembered for singing the vocals to "Its the Real Thing" Coke commercial more then any of their hit records--trust me!
GREAT DANCE / POP SONG STILL RELEVANT TO TODAY - THIS IS THE WAY COOL LONG VERSION(!). IT WOULD BE GREAT TO SEE A 60s 7 70s PIC OF THIS GROUP, ESP. ROGER, AND SEE THAT PRETTY PURPLE PRESS LABEL SPINNING ON YOUR TURNTABLE! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS SONG. DAVEDJ
How come the artists back in the 50's and the 60's could always have a ballad and make it heart felt and powerful and not sappy and annoying like today's crap??!!
see!! its possible!! you can say "aint got no" without sounding like a low trash ghetto piece of shit like most of todays artists they said it in a sentence that didnt reefer to girls as "boos, shorty, bitch" it can be done!
Still to this day one of the greatest songs of the rock era. The harmony, the emotion, the romance... I hope and pray , will some day be resurrected in future generations... what the hell happened??
Life is all about Learning and sometimes it takes 'til your 50's to find out what is right for you!
2nd marriages fair better!.. Its all about the "C" word Commitment ♥ and being there for each other! Not about MONEY as so very often drives people apart!
When this song came out I just graduated from high school, had a beautiful girlfriend I wanted to marry, just got a lifetime job.....and then bang I got drafted into the Army and poof lost everything
One should never get married in a church wedding. Since wedding vows seem to be forgotten as soon as the first bad wave of troublesome bills & relationships sucks you under you really wi look for an acceptable escape from marriage. A simple civi service is all that's required. Church worries: remember civil weddings aren't sanctified church proceedings and have no effect on the next fool who goes along with a church wedding.
@OLdies1960s One of the great songs of the sixties my ass! They just like totally ripped the melody from 'Listen to the flower people' by Spinal Tap!!!! ;)
@jcrezonna I never heard of them in '65. It's like saying The Isley Brothers ripped of the Beatles version of "Twist and Shout" I mean the Beatles were formed in the '50's were they not?
The Fortunes made this record in 1965 while the members of Spinal Tap were still wetting their nappies. You are about 15 years out of sync, Spinal tap did not exist till the 80's.
Ironic that the generation that sang about "Everlasting Love", "A Forever Kind of Love" and "true love means planning a life for two" should be the same generation that saw skyrocketing divorce rates. Maybe our parents could have taught us a thing or two after all...
