  • Toxic oil

  • @CanadianBacon756 It's rapeseed alright, just under a different name. The marketers had to change it because who would buy a product called rapeseed oil?

"Canola Oil is Another Victory of Food Technology over Common Sense" - NaturalNews

  • I hope everyone realizes this is not rapeseed

  • @jaitup Just to clarify a bit... Only "extra virgin" and "virgin" olive oil is :supposed: to be extracted by only mechanical means. "Pure olive oil" and "olive oil" are blends of mechanically and chemically separated oil. They use hexane to drag the last oil out of the olive pulp. Same as they do with canola.

  • olive Oil not only taste better, the oil also naturally extracted, You can actually squeeze the oil from an olive, no chemical extraction needed

  • OMG who cooks stake like that 0_o

  • well I know I will try to never eat that again!

  • after watching this, how can anyone still think that this "fat" is good for us? i will admit it is an ridiculous way to extract oil from rapeseeds. We could just eat beef tallow...... but that would be natural

  • Differential effects of dietary canola and soybean oil intake on oxidative stress in

    stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rats.

Canola oil ingestion significantly decreased the life span of stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rats rats compared with soybean oil, 85.8 ± 1.1 and 98.3 ± 3.4 days, respectively. Systolic blood pressure increased over time with a significant difference between the diets at the 6th week of feeding.

  • Man is trying to make their own things. They are leaving God out of the picture

  • OMFG! Olive oil is insanely better than canola or vegetable! If I'm wrong, please tell me! ><

  • @PureSniperWolf You're right olive oil is insanely better than canola oil.

  • When it is all processed that is not healthy.

  • LOL!! THEY GOT IT WRONG CANOLA OIL IS ONE OF THE MOST UNHEALTHIEST OILS.

  • yummerzz!!

  • C-C-C-CANOLA OIL

  • THE "ONLY" THING THIS OIL IS GOOD FOR IS DIESEL FUEL !

  • This is NOT a healthy oil....highly processed is not healthy..yuck.

  • A lot of crybabies commenting on this video.

  • Canola Cake, i'm sure they'll start selling that soon as a "healthy" alternative on kid's birthday's.

  • the only thing this oil is good for is diesel fuel !!

  • haha rapeseed

  • My sentiments exactly, this can NEVER be as healthy as olive oil, in fact, it may not even be as good as vegetable oil or oil made form animal fat. To much chemical additives.

  • THAT'S NOT HOW YOU COOK A STEAK!! D=<

  • @pandadardar good to see i'm not the only one who was outraged!

  • @pandadardar They're not cooking it, they're just searing it.

  • @pandadardar Well, my daughter cooked HERS this way while I grilled. My steak turned up dry, burn and crusty. Raw in the center. Hers? Moist, flavorful and cooked to medium/somewhat pink. She used olive oil. I will too, next time!

  • @sammietheodore2012 Frying is definitely much better IMO. The only thing that's wrong about this video is that the guy flips it after a second, it's much better if you wait for 4 or 5 minutes without moving it and do the same on the other side, that is if you want it to be medium rare. And also don't put oil on the pan, coat the beef with oil instead, this way the flavour doesn't get out while it's frying. Cover it with foil for 5 mins after cooking. :) "The More You Know*

  • @pandadardar Thanks for the tip. No more outdoor grills for me.

  • @pandadardar "...the guy flips it after a second." Probably for film length's sake, maybe? I do know to keep it one side for a time, or it will tuffen ;) Thanks for the oil on the cut of meat first tip. Then cover...I remember hearing something about it will continue cooking! :)

  • sunflower oil FTW

  • yuck!

  • The guy doesn't know that how to cook a steak, at all. *Heat pan, pour in small amount of oil. When oil just begins to smoke, lower heat slightly, throw in the steak and DON'T move it at all until it sears and is ready to flip over. Some people are just ignorant sigh.

  • Use butter to cook and lard to fry. everything else is plain BS

  • Fun fact:

Spent Raney Nickel catalyst used in the hydrogenation of Canola oil can spontaneously combust.

  • @goofyreligion3 You don't understand how science works, do you. So far, you've tried to disparage a scientist whose work you presumably find threatening, thinking somehow it would bolster your flawed pet hypothesis. Then you presented a specious "experiment" that you somehow thought was relevant. Now you want me to eschew the literature & get my info from "Here's what I think" blog sites run by amateur "experts". Anything that can be said has been said, with authority, somewhere on the Internet.

  • @goofyreligion3 3rd time. I don't waste time on the delusions of conspiracy nutcases. Reductio ad absurdum: Take an apple, broccoli, some spinach, squash & a bell pepper & leave them on the counter for a month. Surely fruits & vegetables must be very bad for us. To the extent that it matters, most veg oils have a shelf life of a yr or so. Sat fats are expedient for manufacturers because they do have longer shelf lives. So does motor oil. Coconut kills. But like I say, I don't care when you die.

  • @goofyreligion3 Again, I don't waste time on conspiracy theorists' delusions. Regarding your factual errors, Canola's been used for 40yrs. & this process is pretty much standard for most vegetable oils. You *can* just cold press again. The solvent's for efficiency, not odor. Typically hexane, which quickly evaporates away leaving zero residue. Steam injection is for odor & used on most veg oils. Interestingly the bleaching's mechanical, not chemical. Use your coconut. I don't care when you die.

  • Ohhh thats what canola oil is!

In the UK, its called rapeseed oil. No joke, the plants are called rape.

  • @MrSkinnyBill No. The canola plant is a conventionally derived hybrid of the rapeseed & mustard plants. It's quite distinct from the rapeseed plant, in the same way that a wolfhound is distinct from a St. Bernard. The name rapeseed comes from the latin word "rapum", meaning "turnip", which is closely related to it.

  • @sbergman27 Thanks for that, i didn't know that :P

    Quite interesting :)

  • @goofyreligion3 Your situation is worse than I thought. I was confusing coconut oil with cocoa butter. CB has the stearic acid. The lauric acid in coconut oil is very bad indeed. As bad as any saturated fat. & it has tons. It's really not fit for human consumption. It does, however, make good biodiesel, high temp industrial lubricant & mosquito repellent.

Regarding the rest of your drivel, I don't waste time with conspiracy theorists. Only other conspiracy theorists pay attention to you anyway.

  • Canola seeds reminds me of when I was a little boy and I would scoop out our rabbit pen

  • @goofyreligion3 The nice thing about your ilk is that given time, evolution will weed you out. By all means, continue to gobble your saturated fats. Stearic Acid (the saturated fat in coconut oil) *might* be less harmful than other saturated fats. Current evidence is not conclusive. But that's quite different from being good for you.

BTW, dishwashing liquids, laundry soaps, and countertop cleaners are good sources of stearic acid. You might want to enhance your intake by drinking those, too.

  • My! I'm used to adding oils only sparingly. And always measuring. Gotta love the way they glug, glug, glug it over that poor drowning salad. And the way they then use the low saturated fat canola oil to cook that blob of saturated fat masquerading as a beef filet! Canola is my favorite oil. (Actually, I use a 90/10 mixture of canola/olive.) But the sheer decadence they show while talking health is amusing.

  • I cook with nothing but canola oil! this is awesome!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Canola oil is tremendously unhealthy! Saturated fat is GOOD FOR YOU.

  • Who the hell is cooking that stake at 0:43 ?

  • narrator guy is too afraid to say rapeseed, hahaha

  • @georgep922 The canola plant is not a rapeseed plant. It's a conventionally cultivated hybrid of the rapeseed and mustard plants. You wouldn't call a pansy a viola. Why would you call a canola plant a rapeseed plant?

  • Where does the mouse shit go?

  • canola oil in a salad ? that's the first time I've ever seen that ...

  • its disgusting how they use the remainder of the product to feed animals we eat and use soap we clean with... -__-

  • cattle feed wtf.. cows eat grass..

  • Comment removed

  • @jazzplayer9 cows in canada eat grass in us they super feed them with corn and thoses kinds of things cauz theres too much demand

  • @jazzplayer9 He said "animal feed", you are decided to 1) assume it means cows, and 2) ignore that cows can eat any plant feed and 3) whine about your stupid assumptions.

  • @acoow cool comment bro....

  • @jazzplayer9 not anymore.

  • @jazzplayer9 the steak you ate last night didn't have grass fed cow. unless you paid extra for it. cows are fed corn. go watch food inc. it makes an overly dramatic dramatazation of the stuff that goes on with the food industry but you'd get the idea.

  • @jazzplayer9 for the record, I was being sarcastic with this post.. please no more replying informing me of the facts... i already know them :)

  • This is exactly why I no longer buy canola oil. This is not healthy at all, yet there are some people who are still sheep believing what conventional health experts have to say. This is disgusting and I will be sticking to what's natural, like butter, animal fats, and tropical oils. Yuck.

  • Canola oil is not healthy and saturated fats are. I can't believe that people are still convinced that saturated fats are bad. Canola oil is a biodeisal fuel and was used for vehicles many years ago. Animal fats have been given a bad reputation and it's time for people to do their own research about real fats that are natural as opposed to being made in some food lab.

  • in southern italy (where i used to live) people basically only use good olive oil :-)

  • so canola oil is made from RAPEseeds? hummm…

  • @feldsliscia yeah cuz the seed was genetically engineered or "raped". damn just bought some of this shit too. I think it will be ok for a couple of weeks till I get some coconut oil.

  • Canola is at best poison and the crop smells like rotting flesh. It is Geneticly modifide Rape seed. Canola short for Canadian Oil laboraties. the best to use is Coconut, Olive oil, and good old butter.

  • @CTR831 Butter is great! I use lard and dripping too.

  • washed with a solvent;

    refined with sodium hydroxide;

    bleached to lighten it;

    steamed to remove odour;

    HOW CAN THIS BE HEALTHY?!

  • @flylxy "a solvent" is not necessarily as dangerous as it sounds. A solvent is simply something that will dissolve another thing - for example, water is a solvent.

"Sodium Hydroxide" is dangerous in high concentration - you have a point

"Bleach" is another misleading term - bleach simply means to change colour. Bleach is commonly just considered as a chlorine solution.

"Steamed" is completely safe - its like breathing in what comes out of a kettle - it would just burn you at the time.

  • @MrSkinnyBill The bleaching is even more benign than that. Surprisingly, it is a mechanical process, and not chemical. The solvent is usually hexane. (You're wanting to dissolve a nonpolar solute, after all.) Having a very high vapor pressure, it quickly evaporates, leaving zero residue. People who still balk can buy cold pressed canola. It's exactly the same thing, but at a higher (olive-oil-like) price. It's silly to worry. But a lot of people are silly, and ignorant of chemistry.

  • @flylxy chemicals aren't bad. in this case they are just using them to clean it off. some chemicals are even food grade and much of what we eat may seem inedible but it is. for example

    dihydrogen monoxide

  • @flylxy Steaming something doesn't seem that bad.

  • @FacePwn64 aside from the fact that fats, aside from saturated fats, are easily damaged by heat.

  • @flylxy Yes because steam is very harmful...

  • @flylxy NaCl +H20 -> NaOH + HCL, water + tablesalt = hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide, this occurs in your stomach, a solvent may refer alcohol, which is technically toxic, but which may be evaporated away, steam is just water, bleaching does not necessarily refer to ammonium bleach(the stuff you do laundry with), UV rays in sunlight can bleach certain dyes for example.

Hope this puts your mind at ease, there are far worse things that you are probably ingesting.

  • @flylxy .... seriously?

    1. do you know what a solvent is? it can be completley non toxic!

    2. sodim hydroxide is literally salt. not table salt but not harmful.

    3. yeah bleach but i doubt you are cooking bleach into your oil to a degree it's toxic.

    4. STEAMED OH SHIT CALL THE COPS.

  • I'm rather amazed that they can show such disgusting images and yet try to portray it in a positive light. I bet the narrator didn't see any of the footage first.

  • Well that's just about the most disgusting thing I've seen.

  • terrible... just terrible

    go lard!

  • This is perhaps the most disgusting process I've seen besides the animal slaughterhouses. Canola oil, GMO or not, is evil and should be avoided at all costs. Stick with coconut, olive or even grapeseed oil, all in moderation because, as with anything, too much of a good thing is not good.

  • Canola oil is poisonous as fuck!

  • YIKES...the foreign material separated from the seeds is sold as animal feed BEFORE its sent thru the magnet to pull out the metal! Gah!!!

  • @1:20 is hilarious. It shows us how sick humans lie to themselves. So the sieve cleans out the foreign contaminates from the oil, then the foreign contaminates are collected and sold as cow feed, which end right back on in that skillet! ROFL Now the really sick part, the skillet fried rotting flesh shown in the vid is saturated with molecules that alter your DNA. Don't take my word for it; search at the National Cancer Institute (cancerDOTgov) for PABs and HCAs and they'll show you proof. Peace!

  • ever since watching Fat Head, it literally drives me batshit insane to hear false information all over the place. that movie changed my life and my eating habits completely!

  • @youwentawaay I know what you mean! The biggest, ugliest lie is that torturing animals for food, thereby ingesting dieased rotting flesh and destroying the environment, is a sustainable, decent way for humans to live. It drives me batshit!

  • 1) Canola oil is made out of a weakened Rapeseed Oil(of course they dont tell you that in the video) which is an INDUSTRIAL SOLVENT! Would you want that in your body?

    2) 1:20 mentions a magnet removes any metals.Wrong it only removes FE(iron/steel). It wont pick up other metals or anything else!

  • @theshadowfag Water is also used as an industrial solvent.

  • @EmittingPhotons True but water is not something thats been GMO'd

  • FUN FACT: The OMEGA 3's break down and become carcinogenic during all that crap.

  • This is disgusting! How many solvent wash, bleaching, odor removal... sounds healthy. :P

I'll stick to Olive, Coconut, and pasture-raised Tallow/Lard, thanks! --- oh, and let's not forget butter!!! :)

  • Aside from coconut and animal and fish fat what other fats can I eat without detriment to my health? Olive, sesame, peanut, flax?

  • @Rexhungus You want to choose oils that don't require chemical extraction. Those you named are good examples.

  • @FatHeadMovie Good to know. Thank you for responding.

  • @Rexhungus red palm oil is also good. just make sure whatever you get is cold-pressed unrefined. the only oils i keep in my kitchen are coconut, red palm, avocado. and of course butter (or ghee), lard, tallow.

  • @adrenergic /I haven't tried red palm...coconut oil is the only one I can find at the store. Which honestly is fine since I have fallen in love with it. I just love frying foods in it.

  • @Rexhungus I would avoid sesame and peanut as anything other than flavoring: See the Whole Health Source article "A Practical Approach to Omega Fats".

  • @Harfatum Yeah I read about peanut oil as well and is something I wouldn't purchase and use. Sesame oil is only used in stir fry and now that I eat very little carbs, its not used at all. Coconut oil, fish oil, butter and olive oil are all I use. Honestly after watching Fat Head and trying coconut oil, even the olive oil collects dust. Coconut oil is up there with bacon in regards to godly food!!

  • @Rexhungus Yep, sounds good. Coconut oil and butter are my bread and butter, so to speak. I personally do better with 20% or so calories from clean carbs like rice and sweet potatoes, though.

  • @Rexhungus Canola oil contains just 1 gram of saturated fat per tablespoon (amounting to 7 percent of its fatty-acid make-up, with heart-healthy monounsaturated fat comprising 62 percent and polyunsaturated fat making up 31 percent). In stark contrast, coconut oil is around 90 percent saturated fat, just 6 percent monounsaturated fat and 2 percent polyunsaturated fat. I never use coconut oil for this reason. We may not like the genetically modified canola, but it won't clog your heart.

  • @drmodestoesq Its never been proven that saturated fat clogs the heart.

  • @drmodestoesq "We may not like the genetically modified canola, but it won't clog your heart."

    "won't clog your heart"

    Everybody, laugh at this guy.

  • @TheOrangeRoad Yes, everybody laugh at this guy, then die of a massive coronary by ignoring every expert on cardiac health. Have a hearty chuckle at the naivete of a person who thinks trans fat and saturated fat lead to arterial sclerosis. Chortle, if you will, at the surgeon general's recommendations and then clutch your chest and lurch forward. Have a hearty guffaw as you overload your plate with bacon, melted cheese, eggs that were fried in butter. To be continued...

  • @drmodestoesq Why do you think saturated fat clogs your heart/arteries? Truth be told... it doesn't.

  • @dennisvolzMAC The Canola Council of Canada states that research studies have shown a link between saturated fat and increased serum cholesterol that, in turn, is associated with increased coronary heart disease risk

  • @drmodestoesq "The Canola Council of Canada" funded that research. Of course they're going to look for research that promotes their own products.

  • After watching this video and Fat Head last night I'm flat out horrified. I went into my cabinet and fridge to see all the foods that I thought contained healthy oils. Disappointed to say the least. I'm really bummed about canola, I like my Litehouse dressing and now I have to stop eating it. But my health is more important and I will just have to find an alternative. Ty for your documentary and everything you have done to promote good science. I just watched Science for Smart People....loved it

  • @Rexhungus life can be fun and good with fat

  • @Rexhungus I know what you mean about being disappointed that such a vile Frankenstein oil as Canada Oil has been snuck into almost everything. I really have to read labels to keep HFCS, any corn syrup/sugar, Cotton seed oil, all trans fats(hydrogenated oils) and other weird laboratory food out of my family's diet. Conversely good old cane sugar and butter as ingredients can actually be signs of a conscientious product. I make my own olive oil, lemon juice or balsamic vinegar dressing...yum!

  • @Rexhungus Good for you for taking a serious look at your diet and health! Can you imagine those sorry neanderthal sons of bitches who are still ingesting diseased rotting flesh into their body? Even with all the evidence of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, saturated fat, LDL cholesterol, bovine growth hormones, animal antibiotics, etc, etc. Wow, the things we learn! So liberating to see the truth thru all the lies we been told, right? Cheers and peace!

  • I've always used canola oil (refined, even!) because of its high smoking point.

I had no idea it was dewaxed, bleached, etc. Those are some processes I wished they could have left out....

I'm now looking to buy coconut oil as an alternative, but I have no idea if it's safe to leave in a hot pan for very long!

  • @inuyashaspet We fry foods in coconut oil or bacon grease. Both work fine.

  • @inuyashaspet Coconut oil is the best oil out there. Even when heated, the Enzymes are preserved (It's totally safe by the way). It is SO SO health beneficial. I recommend that you use coconut oil instead of this artificial stuff, you would be doing your body a huge favor!

  • @inuyashaspet

coconut oil is fantastic. it is unaffected by heat. Canola Oil = Death!

  • @inuyashaspet Peanut oil is great for deep frying and pan frying, IMHO. It's less expensive than coconut oil, and still an option if you're a vegetarian, or just don't trust those dusty tubs of bleached shelf-stable lard...

  • what a natural process.........!

  • The 'solvent' they use is called HEXANE, which is a PROVEN carcinogen (causes cancer). And on top of that, they BLEACH the freaking thing, holy crap. Death in a bottle.

  • Of course canola oil is the healthiest oil because that's what the FDA and USDA tells us. And everyone trusts in the federal government.

BTW, the FDA, USDA, big-pharma, and big-agra (you know the ones actually growing the canola crops) are all the same people... reseach it for yourself... be informed!

  • funny to see this as Im an extraction plant operator, ive been telling people about the "gas" flow in my machine, glad I can finally show them a video of the extraction plant seen here. although alot of steps have been skipped its still good to watch.

  • I just threw up in my mouth.

  • wtf all I can say

  • @myaclick Lard, coconut oil, peanut oil. Too much peanut oil can cause inflammation, according to Mary Enig, author of Know Your Fats, so lard and coconut oil would be better choices.

  • rape seed? is it called that because its oil rapes your health?

  • That steak looked disgusting.

  • Makes me kinda suspicious that they didn't show how they BLEACH it.

  • So I've found a couple videos on Youtube, but I really would like to see a Discovery-type video like this on the production of coconut and olive oils for comparison. Anyone have those?

  • @mcdrums8706 I don't know about coconut but olive oil can be processed chemical-free. The olives are ground up into a paste and the paste is centrifuged to separate the oil from the rest of it. However, you can literally squeeze oil out of an olive by hand and that's how it was done 100s of years ago. It's best to get extra virgin olive oil which is from the first press. It was just spun out of the paste w/o being chemically screwed with. It's left to settle and become clear without bleaching.

  • Thickened waxes = rape grease.

  • Thanks for showing this to me FatHeadGuy :D now I'm sure I'll never eat it.

  • why, they use lye and bleach.... I'm going to be sick...

  • @merkabaradio

They use bleach for your salt, sugar, margarine and flour too!

  • @mindbodyheart That probably explains why sea salts are supposedly better for you, even though its one of those 'We know its better, just don't know why.'

  • i like hemp oil :D and butter :D

  • This makes me want to go into the pantry and throw out a brand new bottle of canola oil i just bought... Argh.

  • @raiyneofgailin

hope you threw it out :)

  • Canola (Canadian-oil)

  • 3:14 GROSSSSSS!

  • i guess thats how you "rape" a seed.

  • @Musashi242 Or maybe the seed rapes YOUuuuuuu

  • How about olive oil instead..?

  • Use butter not this crap

  • The vegetable oils are so cheap that they show up in EVERYTHING... can't buy a single thing without checking ingredients these days

  • ... & oh yeah, Hexane solvent (not good stuff!) is the solvent used to extract the oil from the Canola Cakes AND then they clean it with Sodium Hydroxide (not good stuff either!) AND then they bleach it!!!

  • Funny how they neglected to mention that the plant, from which the seeds are harvested, are from the Rape plant... which is a GMO (genetically modified organism) & in its native/original state is HIGHLY TOXIC.

Do your research & you will not be buying anything with Canola Oil ever again!!!

  • Yumm... bleached oil. Sounds very healthy.

  • ... Who would use this? The process looks rather... Disgusting.

  • Now if only they made one for margarine and soybean oil.

  • Not putting that heart killing crap in my body !!! I now eat only animal fats and coconut fats, avacados etc. to get my fat. Thanks in part due to info in FAT HEAD I am in best shape of my life. Lost 30 lbs of fat in ~6 months and feel better than when I was in my 20's!

  • .. by the way I really liked your movie :) .. one of the most honest documentaries I ever watched .. dont hesitate to do another one we are with you

  • @AboDi22lalala Thank you.

  • Healthiest cooking oil my ass

  • @AboDi22lalala

"healthiest oil"...compared to other other veg oils! YUCK!

  • I got to be honest, the processing is actually pretty awesome. Although I'm definitely staying away from that sledge crap.

  • @Shezmu Sure, we can admire the technology without wanting the product.

  • Yuck Canola oil on a non-stick pan.

  • Mmmm...solvent and bleach.Yum.

  • @fatheadmovie And even more than that, you use SO MUCH LESS when you use butter or lard or tallow or olive oil. What might have taken a 2 or 3 tablespoons of canola I can do with 2 teaspoons of butter mixed with bacon drippings. More flavor, less fat.

  • Ew. Ew ew. Who puts caonla oil on salad like that? Or fries a steak in it like that? OLIVE OIL GOES ON SALAD, BUTTER GOES ON STEAK, PEOPLE

  • @krisdageekqueen People see it looking all pristine in the bottle and think it's good for them. My mom even fell for it until I set her straight.

  • @FatHeadMovie Could you tell me why are vegetable oils bad though? I mean a real biochemical reasoning. I'm trying to explain this stuff to my mum :)

  • @llonever Sure. Two reasons: 1) they replace natural saturated fats, which in spite of everything you've heard are important for everything from bones to skin to sex hormones, and 2) they were never in the human diet -- millions of years of evolution -- until the last 100 years, and we're not adapated to them. Many vegetable oils cause inflammation when we consume them. Olive oil and coconut oil are fine; those come from foods humans actually eat. We don't eat canolas -- i.e., rapeseeds.

  • @FatHeadMovie What a calm, omniscient voice selling Canada oil! Why do they need to do all that poison processing from 2:35 in the video on? Why do they need to use sodium hydroxide, bleach and high temperatures in order to produce an inoffensive oil! The olive oil my 98 year old grandpa drank didn't need all that processing...that would've ruined good EVO! He told me that when he was sick with colitis as a young man (in his 50's) he drank a quarter cup of olive oil a day to save his life. .

  • lmao this is awful. drives me crazy how people eat this thinking it's healthy

  • The sad thing about this is that Dr. Oz, probably one of the most high profile media voices d
